It is a way or mechanism for people to establish connections between different things in their thoughts. Because of the differences of national culture, thinking mode and experience in English and Chinese, they have different understandings of things and metaphorical understandings. This paper takes “red, yellow and green, white, blue and black” as examples to explore the similarities and differences between Chinese and English color metaphors and understand the deep meaning of color. By observing the habits of Chinese and English, master the differences of color words in two languages, and accurately judge the metaphorical meaning of color words.展开更多

The findings indicate that the metaphorical expressions of color terms in Chinese and English exhibit significant differences under different cultural contexts. These differences not only reflect the cultural characteristics in language use but also deepen the understanding of language comprehension in cross-cultural communication. The research results provide theoretical support and empirical evidence for further comparative studies of Chinese and Western language cultures, while also offering insights for cross-cultural language teaching.展开更多
