To improve the safety of trains running in an undesirable wind environment,a novel louver-type wind barrier is proposed and further studied in this research using a scaled wind tunnel simulation with 1:40 scale models...To improve the safety of trains running in an undesirable wind environment,a novel louver-type wind barrier is proposed and further studied in this research using a scaled wind tunnel simulation with 1:40 scale models.Based on the aerodynamic performance of the train-bridge system,the parameters of the louver-type wind barrier are optimized.Compared to the case without a wind barrier,it is apparent that the wind barrier improves the running safety of trains,since the maximum reduction of the moment coefficient of the train reaches 58%using the louver-type wind barrier,larger than that achieved with conventional wind barriers(fence-type and grid-type).A louver-type wind barrier has more blade layers,and the rotation angle of the adjustable blade of the louver-type wind barrier is 90–180°(which induces the flow towards the deck surface),which is more favorable for the aerodynamic performance of the train.Comparing the 60°,90°and 120°wind fairings of the louver-type wind barrier blade,the blunt fairing is disadvantageous to the operational safety of the train.展开更多

Usually, the sea-crossing bridges operate under the harsh natural environment in which service wind, wave and vehicle loads are stronger and extreme loads such as earthquake, hurricane, and ship collision, are more frequent. As a result of the foundation scour,the dynamic behavior of bridge under different combined action of service and extreme loads may be further escalated.In particular, this work has investigated the scour effect on a sea-crossing bridge under service wind, wave and vehicle loads as well as extreme seismic loads. The dynamic coupled earthquake-wind-wave-vehicle-bridge(EWWVB) system is established by considering the interactions within the system, and the p-y curve method is used to calculate the loaddisplacement relation of the pile and soil under various levels of foundation scour. After that, a case study has been performed on a cable-stayed bridge with foundation scour. The results indicate that the dynamic characteristics of bridge structure will change after considering bridge scour, and the dynamic responses of bridge and vehicle will be affected to different degrees under service and seismic loads considering bridge scour.展开更多
In this paper,the effects of a right-angle windbreak transition(RWT)from the flat ground to cutting on train aerodynamic and dynamic responses were investigated,then a mitigation measure,an oblique structure transitio...In this paper,the effects of a right-angle windbreak transition(RWT)from the flat ground to cutting on train aerodynamic and dynamic responses were investigated,then a mitigation measure,an oblique structure transition(OST)was proposed to reduce the impact of RWT on the train aerodynamic and dynamic performance.The results showed that in the RWT region,the airflow was divided into two parts.One part of the airflow induced a strong backflow in the flat ground position,and the other part of the airflow induced a strong backflow in the cutting position.Therefore,there were two lateral impacts on the train.For the head car with the OST,the drop ratios of the peak-to-peak values compared with RWT were 47%,40%,and 52%for the side force coefficient C_(Fy),lift force coefficient C_(Fz) and overturning moment coefficient C_(Mx),respectively.For the peak-to-peak value of the dynamic parameters,the drop ratios of OST compared with RWT were all larger than 50%.The maximum dynamic overturning coefficients for RWT and OST were 0.75 and 0.3,respectively.展开更多

If vibrations are beyond the tolerable limit, the machine and its operator health will be under the risk. In this work, the vibration of a mining truck at different operational conditions are simulated and discussed. To achieve this aim, three haul roads with low, medium and poor qualities are considered based on the ISO standard. Accordingly, the vibration of a mining truck in different speeds, payload and distribution qualities of materials in the dump body are evaluated in each haul road quality using Trucksim software. The simulation results with statistical discussions indicate that the truck speed and the materials distribution quality have significant effects on the root mean square(RMS) of vertical vibrations. However, the effect of the payload is not considerable on the RMS. Moreover, the accumulation of materials on the rear side of the truck dump body is efficient on the vibrational health risk.展开更多

Pressure measur...In this study, experiments were carried out to investigate aerodynamic characteristics of a high-speed train on viaducts in turbulent crosswinds using a 1:25 scaled sectional model wind-tunnel testing. Pressure measurements of two typical sections, one train-head section and one train-body section, at the windward and leeward tracks were conducted under the smooth and turbulence flows with wind attack angles between-6° and 6°, and the corresponding aerodynamic force coefficients were also calculated using the integral method. The experimental results indicate that the track position affects the mean aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle, especially for the train-body section. The fluctuating pressure coefficients at the leeward track are more significantly affected by the bridge interference compared to those at the windward track. The effect of turbulence on the train-head section is less than that on the train-body section. Additionally, the mean aerodynamic force coefficients are almost negatively correlated to wind attack angles, which is more prominent for vehicles at the leeward track. Moreover, the lateral force plays a critical role in determining the corresponding overturning moment, especially on the train-body section.展开更多

Thus, this paper describes a two-part study of tonal noise computation. The first part deals with the prediction of tonal noise using analytical models. As for the second part, it describes a hybrid approach for predicting tonal noise where the sources are extracted from an Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Naviers-Stocks (URANS) simulation and then propagated into the far, free field using the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings' acoustic analogy. The computational domain is meshed with 46 million polyhedral elements and the simulation takes into account the exact geometry of the rotor blades, the stator blades and the shroud. The results from the first part show that analytical models can be used for comparisons between different fan geometries, but are unable to provide accurate noise predictions compared to experimental results. The simulation shows non-periodic blade loading over a whole fan revolution, and different blade loading between the blades. This introduces some bias in the assessment of the acoustic performance of the fan. Overall, the results from the hybrid method are in accordance with the experimental results.展开更多
In recent years,the safety and comfort of road vehicles driving on bridges under crosswinds have attracted more attention due to frequent occurrences of wind-induced disasters.This study focuses on a container truck a...In recent years,the safety and comfort of road vehicles driving on bridges under crosswinds have attracted more attention due to frequent occurrences of wind-induced disasters.This study focuses on a container truck and CRH2 high-speed train as research targets.Wind tunnel experiments are performed to investigate shielding effects of trains on aerodynamic characteristics of trucks.The results show that aerodynamic interference between trains and trucks varies with positions of trains(upstream,downstream)and trucks(upwind,downwind)and numbers of trains.To summarize,whether the train is upstream or downstream of tracks has basically no effect on aerodynamic forces,other than moments,of a truck driving on windward sides of bridges(upwind).In contrast,the presence of trains on the bridge deck has a significant impact on aerodynamic characteristics of a truck driving on leeward sides(downwind)at the same time.The best shielding effect on lateral forces of trucks occurs when the train is located downstream of tracks.Finally,the pressure measuring system shows that only lift forces on trains are affected by trucks,while other forces and moments are primarily affected by adjacent trains.展开更多
Wind tunnel tests were carried out to investigate the aerodynamic interference between a triple-box girder and trains,involving static aerodynamic forces and vortex-induced vibrations(VIVs).Static and dynamic sectiona...Wind tunnel tests were carried out to investigate the aerodynamic interference between a triple-box girder and trains,involving static aerodynamic forces and vortex-induced vibrations(VIVs).Static and dynamic sectional models of the girder and trains were employed for aerodynamic force measurement and VIV test,respectively.Results indicate that the aerodynamic interference effect on static aerodynamic forces of both the girder and trains is remarkable.When a single train exists,the horizontal position of the train has a small effect on aerodynamic coefficients of the girder.When two trains meet on the girder,the drag coefficient of the girder is significantly reduced compared with that of without train or with a single train;besides,during the whole meeting process,aerodynamic forces of the leeward train first drop and then increase suddenly.The fluctuation of aerodynamic force could cause redundant vibration of the train,which is unfavorable for safety and comfort.A train on the girder could worsen the girder VIV performance:a new vertical VIV appears in the triple-box girder when a train is on the girder,and the torsional VIV amplitude increases significantly when the train is on the windward side.展开更多

Results show that with the increment in the slope g...This work used the computational fluid dynamics method combined with full-scale train tests to analyze the train aerodynamic performance on special slope topography. Results show that with the increment in the slope gradient, the aerodynamic forces and moment increase sharply. Compared with the flat ground condition, the lateral force, lift force, and overturning moment of the train on the first line increase by 153.2%, 53.4% and 124.7%, respectively, under the slope gradient of 20°. However, with the increment of the windward side's depth, the windbreak effect is improved obviously. When the depth is equal to 10 m, compared with the 0 m, the lateral force, lift force and overturning moment of the train on the first line decrease by 70.9%, 77.0% and 70.6%,respectively. Through analyzing the influence of slope parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the train, the relationships among them are established. All these will provide a basic reference for enhancing train aerodynamic performances under different slope conditions and achieve reasonable train speeds for the operation safety in different wind environments.展开更多

According to the principle of static moment balance of vehicles, the overturning coefficients of trains with different wind speeds and wall heights were obtained. Based on the influence of wind speed and wall height on the aerodynamic performance and the overturning stability of trains, a method of determination of the load balance ranges for the train operation safety was proposed, which made the overturning coefficient have nearly closed interval. A min(|A1|+|A2|), s.t. |A1|→|A2|(A1 refers to the downwind overturning coefficient and A2 refers to the upwind overturning coefficient)was found. This minimum value helps to lower the wall height as much as possible, and meanwhile, guarantees the operation safety of various types of trains under strong wind. This method has been used for the construction and improvement of the windbreak walls along the Lanzhou–Xinjiang railway(from Lanzhou to Urumqi, China).展开更多

文摘In recent years,the safety and comfort of road vehicles driving on bridges under crosswinds have attracted more attention due to frequent occurrences of wind-induced disasters.This study focuses on a container truck and CRH2 high-speed train as research targets.Wind tunnel experiments are performed to investigate shielding effects of trains on aerodynamic characteristics of trucks.The results show that aerodynamic interference between trains and trucks varies with positions of trains(upstream,downstream)and trucks(upwind,downwind)and numbers of trains.To summarize,whether the train is upstream or downstream of tracks has basically no effect on aerodynamic forces,other than moments,of a truck driving on windward sides of bridges(upwind).In contrast,the presence of trains on the bridge deck has a significant impact on aerodynamic characteristics of a truck driving on leeward sides(downwind)at the same time.The best shielding effect on lateral forces of trucks occurs when the train is located downstream of tracks.Finally,the pressure measuring system shows that only lift forces on trains are affected by trucks,while other forces and moments are primarily affected by adjacent trains.

文摘Wind tunnel tests were carried out to investigate the aerodynamic interference between a triple-box girder and trains,involving static aerodynamic forces and vortex-induced vibrations(VIVs).Static and dynamic sectional models of the girder and trains were employed for aerodynamic force measurement and VIV test,respectively.Results indicate that the aerodynamic interference effect on static aerodynamic forces of both the girder and trains is remarkable.When a single train exists,the horizontal position of the train has a small effect on aerodynamic coefficients of the girder.When two trains meet on the girder,the drag coefficient of the girder is significantly reduced compared with that of without train or with a single train;besides,during the whole meeting process,aerodynamic forces of the leeward train first drop and then increase suddenly.The fluctuation of aerodynamic force could cause redundant vibration of the train,which is unfavorable for safety and comfort.A train on the girder could worsen the girder VIV performance:a new vertical VIV appears in the triple-box girder when a train is on the girder,and the torsional VIV amplitude increases significantly when the train is on the windward side.

文摘This work used the computational fluid dynamics method combined with full-scale train tests to analyze the train aerodynamic performance on special slope topography. Results show that with the increment in the slope gradient, the aerodynamic forces and moment increase sharply. Compared with the flat ground condition, the lateral force, lift force, and overturning moment of the train on the first line increase by 153.2%, 53.4% and 124.7%, respectively, under the slope gradient of 20°. However, with the increment of the windward side's depth, the windbreak effect is improved obviously. When the depth is equal to 10 m, compared with the 0 m, the lateral force, lift force and overturning moment of the train on the first line decrease by 70.9%, 77.0% and 70.6%,respectively. Through analyzing the influence of slope parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the train, the relationships among them are established. All these will provide a basic reference for enhancing train aerodynamic performances under different slope conditions and achieve reasonable train speeds for the operation safety in different wind environments.

文摘The aerodynamic performances of a passenger car and a box car with different heights of windbreak walls under strong wind were studied using the numerical simulations, and the changes of aerodynamic side force, lift force and overturning moment with different wind speeds and wall heights were calculated. According to the principle of static moment balance of vehicles, the overturning coefficients of trains with different wind speeds and wall heights were obtained. Based on the influence of wind speed and wall height on the aerodynamic performance and the overturning stability of trains, a method of determination of the load balance ranges for the train operation safety was proposed, which made the overturning coefficient have nearly closed interval. A min(|A1|+|A2|), s.t. |A1|→|A2|(A1 refers to the downwind overturning coefficient and A2 refers to the upwind overturning coefficient)was found. This minimum value helps to lower the wall height as much as possible, and meanwhile, guarantees the operation safety of various types of trains under strong wind. This method has been used for the construction and improvement of the windbreak walls along the Lanzhou–Xinjiang railway(from Lanzhou to Urumqi, China).

文摘To investigate the aerodynamic effect of wind barriers on a high-speed train-bridge system,a sectional model test was conducted in a closed-circuit-type wind tunnel.Several different cases,including with and without barriers,with different barrier heights and porosity rates,and with different train arrangements on the bridge were taken into consideration;in addition,the aerodynamic coefficients of the train-bridge system were measured.It is found that the side force and rolling moment coefficients of the vehicle are efficiently reduced by a single-side wind barrier,but for the bridge deck these values are increased.The height and porosity rate of the barrier are two important factors that influence the windbreak effect.Train arrangement on the bridge will considerably influence the aerodynamic properties of the train-bridge system.The side force and rolling moment coefficients of the vehicle at the windward side are larger than at the leeward side.
文摘Towards the analysis of the developmental situation of wind power generation and electric vehicles,a novel idea for stabilizing the fl uctuation of wind farms’output by the use of battery swapping stations of electric vehicles is put forward in this paper,to effectively alleviate the impact of grid-connected operation of wind farms on the power system while promoting the fi eld operation of charging and battery swapping stations.A battery swapping station is treated as a capacity-variable energy storage power station,connected to the output terminal of a wind farm.A combined operation model for wind farm and battery swapping station is established based on the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation platform and the control strategy is proposed for the operation of battery swapping stations.The simulation results show that the introduction of a battery swapping station can effectively stabilize the fl uctuation of wind farm output.
