The model of the turbine is drawn from the classical equations describing the operation of a variable wind speed. The torque generated by the turbine is applied to the DFAM directly connected on the network side and the stator via a bidirectional converter side rotor. This configuration allows velocity variations of ±30% around the synchronous speed and the converter is then sized to one third of the rated power of the machine. The DFAM is controlled by a control vector ensuring operation of the wind turbine power coefficient maximum.展开更多

Voltage on the DC-link circuit can be increased significantly due to power unbalance between stator side converter and grid side converter. Increase of DC-link circuit voltage can lead to a damage of IGBT of the converter and control system failure. In this paper performance enhancement of DC-link protection of PMSG based Wind turbine by using new control system of buck converter is proposed. The buck converter is used to control supplied voltage of a breaking resistor to dissipate energy from the wind generator during network disturbance. In order to investigate effectiveness of the proposed DC-link protection system, fault analysis is performed in the simulation study by using PSCAD/EMTDC software program. In addition, comparative analysis between the proposed protection system and the conventional protection system using DC chopper is also performed.展开更多

Modeling and controlling wind energy systems are difficult and challenging problems. The basic structure of wind turbines and some wind control system methods are briefly reviewed. The need for using advanced theories from fuzzy and intelligent systems in studying wind energy systems is identified and justified. FCMs (fuzzy cognitive maps) are used to model wind energy systems. Simulation studies are performed and obtained results are discussed. A new mathematical approach has been proposed to model dynamical complex systems, the DYFUKN (dynamic fuzzy knowledge networks). Excitation method of such a generator is shortly described. The output power of the SRG is controlled so that it can track the maximum output power of a wind turbine drive applications. PID (proportional integral derivative) controller is designed in the blade pitch system of wind turbine to improve the system dynamic performance. Furthermore, to minimize the system oscillations, SMES (super-conducting magnetic energy storage) with first order lead-lag controller is implemented to supply and absorb active power quickly trying to reach power generation/demand balance and thereby control system frequency. Minimization of frequency and wind output power deviations are considered as two objective functions for the PID controller of wind turbine. Also, mitigating frequency and diesel output power deviations are presented as two objective functions of the lead-lag controller of SMES. NSGA-II (modified version of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm) is used to tune the controllers' parameters to get an optimal response. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control technique are investigated under different operating conditions using Matlab environment. The simulation results confirm the ability of the controllers to damp all frequency and output powers fluctuations and enhance the stability and reliability of the hybrid power system.展开更多

In this scheme, the control law is constructed in terms of estimated values for the bounds of the unknown coefficients, where these values are continuously updated by adaptive laws to ensure asymptotic convergence to zero for the output function. The proposed controller is applied to solve the problem of pitch angle regulation for a floating wind turbine with dynamic uncertainty and external disturbances. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity of the designed controller to achieve the desired pitch angle for the floating turbine's body.展开更多

For the special application, sensorless control for PMSG is desired. By widely studying the previous contributes, a novel estimator based on back-EMF is proposed. The estimator is composed of back-EMF observer and a phase-lock-loop (PLL) control to get the rotor-flux speed and position. The estimator not only can be used for interior and surface permanent magnet synchronous generators, but also has a compact and symmetrical structure, which makes it be beneficial for implementation. Compared with previous strategies, the EMF observer is independent of the PLL control, which would simplify the observer design. Meanwhile, the proposed estimator is less sensitive to parameter variations. Based on mathematic models of PMSG, the proposed estimator was analyzed in detail, and the realizing process was also presented. To validate the proposed estimator, the important experiment results are reported.展开更多
