Sustainable soil nutrient management is of paramount importance to the world's most populous country. Critical challenges the country is facing in sustaining soil fertility and in alleviating the hazardous impact of intensive fertilizer use are discussed in this paper. It is emphatically pointed out that national strategies as well as area-specific action plans with respect to scientific nutrient management are urgently needed to balance productivity and sustainability in the future. Relevant proposals for addressing those challenges are also presented.展开更多

This paper analyzes the strategies for State Foodstuff Security: integrating new biological techniques with traditional methods, full utilization of soil with its protection, policies leading with market regulation, steady high yield with promoting additional value through further processing, general foodstuff production with substitute food seeking, domestic self-supply with international trade complementarities as well as short-term exploiting with long-term development on the basis of the increase of general foodstuff production capability.展开更多

In order to help the organizations in this endeavor, this paper presents a model for planning and implementation of IMS (integrated management system) for quality and food safety, using the example of biscuit products manufacturing, and explains its conception. The integrative approach is based on the synergetic effect between the mutually related business processes. It has been established that the introduction of the model can help the biscuit producers in efficiently addressing such challenges as limited resources, increasing competition, as well as higher expectations of customers and other stakeholders.展开更多

The environment around the lake has been improved over a period of 10 years. Conservation practices were initiated by communities including the Rupa Lake Restoration and Fishery Cooperative (RLRFC). As a result, an abundance of non-timber Forest Products (NTFP) has increased considerably. At present, 49 NTFP are available in the lake basin. Some households (HH) i.e 10% has additional income from NTFP. It is an indirect source of food security for local people. They sell NTFP products to generate income. A few households have already started farming of NTFPs. Availability of fodder and fuel wood from community forest has significantly contributed to the livelihoods of people where as wild edible fruits and vegetables have become supplementary for food security. There is yearly food security for 57% of HH with 22% having surplus food. 5% of HH has food security for less than three months where as 19% HHs have food security for more than six months. However, livelihood and nutritional security have improved by fish farming in lake. This lake is most important for the local environment and also helps eco-tourism. The study found that 92% observed the climate change in the form of a rise in temperature (〉 70% HHs); unpredictable rainfall (〉 75% HHs); shifting rainfall (〉 60% HHs); phonological changes (〉 50%). It showed that the lake supports the restoration of natural water capacity, maintain local climate and sound environment by better natural resource management for an environment friendly ecosystem.展开更多

This will entail establishing an overarching, macro-level conception of food safety that integrates "baseline safety", "hub safety", "co-constructed safety" and "endogenous safety". These four dimensions of safety represent four fundamental requirements of food safety governance in modern Chinese society, which is a "risk society"(Beck 1992) and one that is also complex, open and pluralist. These requirements are: maximum legal liability, a unified, authoritative and efficient supervision system, a concept of social co-governance, and enterprises being the primary entities accountable for food safety. This article uses this analytical framework to interpret the basic contents of the newly revised Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, and uses a focus on social co-governance to present the institutional highlights of this law and the transformation of the internal logic of food safety governance.展开更多

文摘To modernize food safety governance, we must carry out basic restructuring of its internal logic at the national level to reflect the features of contemporary Chinese society that shape food safety.
