The effects of different dietary lipid content on the growth and lipase activity ofEriocheir sinensis larvae were studied in the paper. The results showed that the survival, metamorphic rate and weight gain of E. sinensis larvae at different stages of growth all varied significantly with lipid content (P〈0.05). Further, the survival and metamorphosis rates were the highest during the larval phases Z3 to Z4, and the weight gain was the highest during the larval phases Z5 to M. During the first 20h after metamorphosis of every larval stage, the lipase activity increased over time at Z1, Z2, Z3 and M and declined at Z4 and Zs, and was influenced significantly by lipid content (P〈0.05). In addition, lipase activity at each larval stage began to respond to dietary lipid contents 4h after the larvae were fed, and tended to be stable after 12 h. The diets with higher lipase activity and lower lipid content were selected to give the suitable recipe of lipid requirements at each larval stage. It was concluded that the suitable lipid requirements at Zb Z2, Z3, Z4, Z5 and M were 6%, 4% 6%, 8%, 8% and 10%, respectively. 展开更多

AIM: Human heparanase is an endo-D-glucuronidase that degrades heparan sulfate/heparin and has been implicated in a variety of biological processes. The objective was to investigate the expression of heparanase (Hps) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and their relationship to neoangiogenesis and metastasis of human esophageal carcinoma.METHODS: Seventy-nine patients who had undergone esophageal resection for esophageal carcinoma without preoperative treatment were included in the present study. Immunohistochemistry was used to study the expression of Hps, bFGF and microvessel density (MVD) in 79 cases of esoph-ageal carcinoma. bFGF and Hps were quantitatively detected with immunohistochemistry in 79 cases of human esopha-geal carcinoma and 19 cases of adjacent normal human esophageal carcinoma. Cd34 was used to explore the MVD as a marker of endothelial cells. RESULTS: Hps and bFGF expression in tumor tissue, being remarkably higher than that in normal esophageal tissue, were significantly correlated with clinicopathological features (depth of invasion, lymph-node metastasis and TNM stage) and MVD.CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that thecoexpression of Hps and bFGF plays a key role in angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis of esophageal carcinoma. Hps and bFGF may serve as a predictor of progression in esophageal carcinoma. The expression of heparanase in esophageal carcinoma enhances growth, invasion, and angiogenesis of the tumor, and bFGF seemsto be a potent antigenic factor for esophageal carcinoma. 展开更多

An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary soy isoflavones on feeding intake, growth performance, and digestion of juvenile Japanese flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus).Four isonitrogenous(49% crude protein) and isoenergetic(20.1 MJ kg-1) diets were formulated to contain four graded levels of soy isoflavones,namely,0,1,4 and 8 g soy isoflavones in 1 kg of diet. Each diet was randomly fed to triplicate tanks of fish(Initial average weight:2.58 g ± 0.01 g),and each tank was stocked with 35 fish.No significant difference was observed among diets with levels of 0,1 and 4 g kg-1 soy isoflavones in feed intake, weight gain, feed efficiency ratio(FER),proximate composition of fish whole body and apparent digestibility coefficients(ADC) of nutrients and energy(P>0.05).However,high dietary soy isoflavones level(8 g kg-1) significantly depressed weight gain,FER,whole-body crude lipid content of fish and ADC of nutrients(P<0.05).These results indicate that high level of dietary soy isoflavones(above 4 g kg-1) significantly depresses growth responses and FER of Japanese flounder. However,as the content of soy isoflavones in soybean meal is around 1 to 3 g kg-1,the adverse effects might be neglected when soybean products are used as a fish feed ingredient. 展开更多

The experiment was conducted to study the effects of fish meal and sodium butyrate on growth performance, gut development and GLP-2 secretion in weanling piglets. A 2×2 factorial design was used with two fish meal levels (0, 5%), and two sodium butyrate levels (0, 0.3%). There were 4 dietary treatments: control diet (CD); control diet supplemented with fish meal (CF), control diet supplemented with sodium butyrate (CB), control diet supplemented with fish meal and sodium butyrate (FB). A total of 44 28-days-old Large White×Landrace weanling piglets were randomly allotted into 4 treatment averagely. The experiment period was 14 days. The results showed that sodium butyrate's addition increased average diary gain (ADG), average diary feed intake (ADFI) and gain to feed intake ratio (G:F) of weanling piglets (all P〈0,05), improved gut morphology (mucosa thickness, ratio of villous height to crypt depth) and sucrase activity, and fish meal's addition increased maltase activity (all P〈0.05). Either sodium butyrate or fish meal addition decreased cecum colibacillus quantity, sodium butyrate increaded ratio of cecum lactobacilli to colibacillus (P〈0.05). Consequently, diarrhea was reduced in diet supplemented with fish meal (P=-0.08) and diet supplemented with sodium butyrate (P=0.15) through 14 days of experiment, significant reduction of diarrhea rate was observed in diet supplemented with fish meal through the first 7 days (P〈0.05). In addition, sodium butyrate and fish meal addition in diets tended to increase plasma GLP-2 concentration, however, GLP-2 concentration on the 4th day was consistently decreased in diet supplemented with fish meal relative to that on day 0 (P=0.08). Overall, it could be concluded that both sodium butyrate and fish meal addition improve intestinal development and sodium butyrate addition significantly increase growth performance. The gut trophic response to sodium butyrate or may be in agreement with development. peptide GLP-2 increases in fish meal addition in diet and the alteration of intestinal 展开更多

Effects of water temperature (17, 21, 25, 30 and 35℃) and body size (14.75-281.41 g initial body weight) on food consumption, growth, feed conversion, and dry matter content in orange-spotted grouper fed to satiation were investigated. The combined effect of temperature (T, ℃) and body weight (W, g) on maximum food consumption (Cmax, g/day) was described as: InCmax=-7.411+0.828 InW+0.317T4).004 7T2, and the optimum feeding temperature was 33.9℃. The combined effect of temperature and body weight on growth (G) was described as: lnG=-4.461-0.2081nW+0.394T-0.006 3T^2. The optimum growth temperature was 31.4℃, whereas overall growth rates were high at 25, 30 and 35 ℃. Feed conversion efficiencies (FCE, %), increasing first and then decreasing with increasing temperature, averaged from 1.8 to 2.1 in terms of dry weight of food fish. The optimum temperature for FCE tended to be lower than that for growth or feeding. Dry matter content increased with both increasing water temperature (17, 25, 30 and 35℃) and body weight, and the combined effect of temperature and body weight on dry matter content (DM, %) was described as: lnDM =3.232+0.01 4 lnW-0.004 4T+0.001 2TInW. 展开更多

Ninety six pigs average weight 9.15 kg were used to study the effects of feeding diets containing multiple sources of dietary fiber (DF) on weight gain and concentration of fermentation products in the digestive tract. The experiment employed four diets and four pens diet1. Diets included a low fiber diet (LFD), as control and three antibiotic free high-fiber diets (HFD) containing a 1:2, 1:1 or 2:1 oats:barley ratios. At the end of the 70 d feeding trial three pigs of comparable weight diefI were slaughtered. Digesta taken from the stomach, cecum and colon were used for the determination of volatile fatty acids (VFA). Results indicated that inclusion of HFD increased (P 〈 0.05) feed intake but not weight gain. As revealed by the higher feed intake the nutritional value of HFD was approximately 88% of LFD. Also, as the amount of oats in the diet was increased, VFA concentration was also increased while isobutyrate decreased (P 〈 0.05). Lower concentration of isobutyrate may indicate parallel reduction in other putatively toxic products of protein fermentation in the digestive tract. Thus, inclusion of multiple sources of fiber in the diet impacted feed intake and the products of gut fermentation in growing pigs. 展开更多

An 8-week feeding experiment was conducted in an indoor recirculation seawater system to investigate the effects of partial replacement of dietary fishmeal with proteins from five sources on the growth performance and feed utilization of Sebastes schlegeli. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated using fishmeal(FM, the control) as sole protein source, or proteins from five sources including poultry by-product meal(PBM), meat and bone meal(MBM), soybean meal(SBM), cottonseed meal(CSM) and canola meal(CNM). Fifteen percent of the crude protein provided by fish meal was replaced, respectively. The results showed that the differences in specific growth rate(SGR) and survival rate(SR) among fish fed PBM, MBM, SBM, CSM and whole FM diets were not significant. However, SGR and SR of fish fed CNM diet was significantly lower than that of other treatments. Feeding rate, feed conversion, nutrient retention showed similar patterns to that of growth. Fish fed CSM and CNM showed significantly lower apparent digestibility coefficient(ADC) of dry matter and gross energy than those fed others while fish fed CNM showed lower ADC of crude protein than those fed others(P<0.05). These results suggested that it was feasible to substitute 15% dietary protein provided by fishmeal with PBM, MBM, SBM and CSM, respectively, but not with CNM as the replacement with CNM reduced fish growth and feed utilization. 展开更多

I) and N balance (Exp. 2) in growing pig. In Exp. 1, 36 castrated pigs [21.35 -4- 0.55 kg of body weight (BW)] were allotted to six treatments with six replicates per treatment. Pigs were fed two levels of Lys (low and high) and three levels of NE (low, med, or high) in a 2×3 factorial arrangement. The experiment lasted for 35 d. There were no effects of dietary Lys and NE on pig performance (P〉0.05, but a Lys×NE interaction in ADG was observed (P〈0.05). In Exp. 2, 24 pigs were used to determine the effects of diet in Exp. 1 on pig N balance. Neither Lys nor NE level affected N retention (g/d) (P〉0.0). Lys×NE interaction in N retention (g/d) (P〈0.01) and in N apparent biological value (ABV) (P〈0.05) was observed. Pigs fed the low Lys diet had lower serum urea nitrogen (SUN) concentrations compared with the high Lys treatment (P〈0.01). Pigs fed the med-NE diet had lower SUN concentrations compared with the pigs fed the low-NE diet (P〈0.1). These results suggest that pigs from 21 kg to 50 kg BW fed diets containing 0.83% standardized ileal digestible Lysine and 2351 Kcal of NE/kg had maximum ADG and N retention. 展开更多

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the growth response and serum concentrations (SC) of amino acids (AA) in pigs fed wheat-based diets with either deficient, adequate or excess Lys and Thr. Previously, the standardized ileal digestibilities of AA in a basal diet were determined with five ileal cannulated pigs in a digestion trial. In experiment 1, 21 pigs (12.5±0.91 kg) were used to evaluate the effect of adding 0%, 0.69%, and 1.38% free L-Lys. The best growth response was obtained with 0.69% added L-Lys, equivalent to 1.05% total in the diet. The SC of Arg, Thr, and Val were lower (P 〈 0.05) in pigs fed the Lys adequate diet, compared to the deficient, but no further change occurred with excess Lys (P 〉 0.10). Lys SC increased with each increment in the dietary Lys content (P 〈 0.05). In experiment 2, 20 pigs (14.3 ± 1.57 kg) were used, and the addition of 0%, 0.14%, 0.28%, and 0.42% crystalline Thr, to the 0.69% L-Lys-supplemented basal diet, was evaluated. The best response was obtained with added 0.28% L-Thr, (0.66% total Thr), but excess Thr reduced feed intake and growth rate. Moderate and excess levels of Yhr increased the SC of Thr, but excess reduced those of Va[ and Lys. These data show that excess Thr, but not Lys, affect the performance of growing pigs. Also, these data indicate that Val may become limiting in low protein diets with excess Lys or Thr. 展开更多

The experiment was conducted using a total of 1392 one-day-old, Cobb commercial male broilers to investigate the effects of a commercial probiotic addition in diet on growth, the development of the small intestine and microbial populations of broilers. Broilers were randomly allotted by BW to 1 of 6 replicate cages (29 chicks per cage) for each of 8 treatments in a randomized block design involving one factorial arrangement of treatments. Dietary treatments included the basal diet (including corn, soybean, rapeseed, cottonseed meal) added with 100 mg/kg antibiotic, 0%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.2%, 0.25% or 0.3%. The experiment last 42 d and divided into the starter period (1-21 d) and the finisher period (22-42 d). The results showed that there were significant differences in broiler body weight (BW) (P〈0.001), average daily feed intake (ADFI) (P=0.033), relative length of the duodenum (P〈0.001), jejunum (P=0.008), ileum (P〈0.001) and the populations of lactobacillus (P〈0.001) and coliform (P〈0.001) in the rectum between the probiotics treatments and the control treatment only in the starter period of the trails. No significant differences were observed in intestinal morphology parameters in two periods of the experiment. Our results indicated that the probiotic was able to improve the performance of broiler chickens, and it was better in the starter period to be used than in the finisher period. 展开更多
