Purification of original crude glycerol obtained from biodiesel production was conducted in a laboratory scale equipment by means of a combined chemical and physical treatment method based upon repeated cycles of acidification of liquid phase to the desired pH value by using 5.85% H3PO4 solution for pH value adjustment, and the mixture was kept at 70 ℃ for 60 rain to make phase separation for obtaining a glycerol-rich middle phase. The yield of crude glycerol reached 81.2%. Subsequently, upon reaction of the obtained glycerol phase with 0.03% of sodium oxalate at 80 ℃ for 30 min the impurity removal rate was equal to 19.8%. The fraction boiling between 164 ℃ and 200 ℃ was collected by vacuum distil- lation followed by decolorization with 2% of active carbon at 80 ℃ for two times to yield the product glycerol with an ac- ceptable purity of 98.10%. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the preventive effect of probiotics on pediatric food allergy. Methods From MEDLINE bibliographical database, we searched and reviewed all randomized controlled trials on the preventive effects of probiotics on pediatric food allergies up to September 2013 and excluded the studies that do not meet inclusion criteria and extracted the data. Meta-analysis for the results of homogenous studies was performed using RevMan 5.0 and the co-effect was pooled by using fixed-effects model of relative risk(RR) ratios. Results Ten trials published between 2007 and 2012 including 2701 cases were included. Meta-analysis based on included data showed that the preventive effect of prenatal and postnatal probiotic supplementation on food allergies was not significant with the RR=0.88(95% CI: 0.76-1.03). Conclusion Present evidences cannot show in unequivocal terms that prenatal and postnatal probiotic supplementation will prevent food allergic diseases. 展开更多

The DNA injury-repair of esophageal cancer EC109 cells to diallyl trisulfide (DATS) combining radiation

Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of diallyl trisulfide (DATS) combining radiation on DNA injury-repair of Esophageal cancer EC109 cells. Methods: Using 10 and 20 μg/mL DATS on EC109 cells, and taking X-ray radiation 24 h later. Investigate the radiosensitization effect of DATS on EC109 cells by clone formation, and the mechanism of DNA injury-repair by Comet Assay. Results: The clone formation resulted that DATS had radiosensitization effect on EC109 cells. Radiosensitization enhancement ratios of 10 and 20 μg/mL DATS in combination with radiation were 1.55, 1.64 (Do) and 1.43, 1.75 (Dq) respectively. In the comet assay, the TM (tail moments) of 20 μg/mL DATS combining radiation group lines at 0 h, 2 h, 6 h and 24 h were 7.16 ± 2.61, 3.65 ± 2.06, 2.09 ± 0.83, 1.45 ± 1.37 respectively. They were slightly increased than radiation group (0.95 ± 0.65, 0.11 ± 0.07, 0.1 ± 0.05, 0.11 ± 0.08) and DATS group (1.81 ± 1.23, 1.58 ± 1.40, 0.45 ± 0.25, 0.60 ± 0.40) (P < 0.01). The result showed that DATS combining radiation had the effect of increasing DNA damage and inhibiting DNA repair on EC109 cells. Conclusion: DATS has radiosensitization effect on Esophageal cancer EC109 cells. And the effect is probably related with DNA injury-repair. 展开更多
