This study on the effects of Al/Fe ...In order to remove the low turbidity present in surface water, a novel metal-polysilicate coagulant was used to treat the raw water taken from Tanjiang River in Guangdong Province. This study on the effects of Al/Fe molar ratio on the performance of a complex compound formed by polysilicic acid, aluminium and ferric salt (PAFS) showed that PAFS with Al/Fe ratio of 10:3 seemed to have the best coagulation performance in removing turbidity and color. Experimental results showed that under the conditions of polymerization time of 15 d, sedimentation time of 12 min, and pH of 6?8, PAFS with Al/Fe molar ratio of 10:3 had the best coagulation efficiency and lowest residual Al concentration. The turbid- ity decreased from 23.8 NTU to 3.23 NTU and the residual Al concentration was only 0.165 mg/L in the product water. It could be speculated that colloidal impurities and particulate Al were removed by adsorption bridging and electrical neu- tralization of long chain inorganic polymer coagulants.展开更多
This study was considered to assess the risk of alum which is used in Sudan for drinking water treatment purposes for a long period without toxicity freedom records .Newzealand rabbits were chosen for animal phase tri...This study was considered to assess the risk of alum which is used in Sudan for drinking water treatment purposes for a long period without toxicity freedom records .Newzealand rabbits were chosen for animal phase trials, divided into 3 groups. One group was the undosed controls. Test groups were given alum at dose rates of 1% and 20% respectively for two groups after an adaptation period. Clinical signs were observed together with postmortem and histopathological examinations. Chemical investigations included enzymatic, metabolic, electrolyte and hematological changes. The test rabbits demonstrated low voice, inappitence, whitish salivation, watery diarrhea and recumbence followed by emphysematous, lungs, electrolyte imbalance, renal dysfunctions, stiff focal inflammation of the empty intestines and congested liver with white spots. The control group was normal .On atomic absorption only the lungs kept residual alum, while the livers washed- out the substance ,may be via bile .Alum -dosed rabbits showed necrosis in the cortex and medulla of the kidney, emphysema in the lungs and necrosis in the hepatocytes. On evaluation of the above results, alum was considered to be toxic to Newzealand rabbits at dose rates tried.展开更多

For this purpose, a total of 195-day old broiler chicks (Arbor acres) were randomly allocated into f...Xylopia aethiopica dried fruits (gains of selim) as an additive in starter broilers production was investigated. For this purpose, a total of 195-day old broiler chicks (Arbor acres) were randomly allocated into five treatments groups with 39 chicks and three replicates of 13 chicks in each. Blended grains of selim was given through drinking water on treatments T2, T3, T4 and T5 at concentrations of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1,0 g/L, while chicks on treatment T1 (control) received antibiotics (Doxy-gen 20/20 WSP: Doxycycline hyclate 200 mg and Gentamicine sulfate 200 mg) at 0.3 g/L of water. All the experimental chicks were fed ad libitum with diet containing 23% crude protein and 2,851.55 kcal/kg metabolizable energy for 28 d. The results revealed that there were similarities (P 〉 0.05) in final body weight, total weight gain, daily weight gain, total feed intake, daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio among the treatments. There were significant (P 〈 0.05) differences in the microbial count of faeces before the birds received antibiotics and grains of selim, but count were similar (P 〉 0.05) after grains of selim and antibiotics were administered. Cost of total feed consumed, cost of per kg feed and cost of per kg weight were significantly (P 〈 0.05) higher in treatment T1, but cost differential and relative cost benefit were similar (P 〉 0.05). Results indicate that grains of selim have antimicrobial and anthelminthic properties, and promote growth in broiler chickens.展开更多
