However, others assert that women who commit violent crimes violate traditional gender roles, which can lead the public to evaluate them more harshly than their male counterparts. More than 900 adults read news stories about either a woman abusing a man or a man abusing a woman before evaluating the criminal suspect. Female participants showed in-group favoritism towards criminal suspects that matched their gender. Conversely, male participants did not show a preference for their in-group. Overall, both male and female participants were more likely to believe the crime was justified, have more sympathy for the criminal suspect, assign less jail time, and have a more positive attitude towards the suspect when the criminal suspect was female vis-a-vis male. These findings were more pronounced when there was a non-fatal crime compared to a crime involving a fatality. Chivalry hypothesis and social identity theory are discussed.展开更多
The effect of three different N-fertilization levels (NI: 625, N2:385 and N3:770 kg hal; where in case of N1 was used the 3-6-10+3MGO+30% OM and in cases of N2-N3 the 26-0-0 fertilizers) on fresh and dry weight...The effect of three different N-fertilization levels (NI: 625, N2:385 and N3:770 kg hal; where in case of N1 was used the 3-6-10+3MGO+30% OM and in cases of N2-N3 the 26-0-0 fertilizers) on fresh and dry weight of the perennial Rosmarinus officinalis (upright cultivar) was investigated during the 2nd year after establishment at the Experimental Farm of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly in Greece (TEI; Larissa plain) in 2015. It is well documented that the crop reaches its potential yield on the third year of cultivation and continues producing biomass for as long as eight years. Complete weather data (air temperature, radiation, air humidity, precipitation) were recorded hourly in an automatic meteorological station, which was installed to the experimental farm of TEI. Upon harvest (November 3rd 2015), the crop reached a maximum fresh yield of 11.67 tons per hectare and dry yield of 4.3, respectively. The average fresh weight was 8.2, 8.4 and 8.9 t hal and the dry weight were 2.6, 3.1 and 3.2 t ha-1 for the N1, N2 and N3 levels, respectively. Furthermore the higher moisture content was observed in the case of N1 level (68%). Therefore, the above data show that rosemary cultivation could be a promising alternative crop, especially in case of the consideration that average selling price of dry rosemary in Greece is 3.5 ∈ kg^-1 and the average gross income exceeds the amount of 10,000 ∈ ha^-1.展开更多

Selective fragrances make up one of the primary categories of the so-called accessible luxury consumed by a middle class that is seeking to approach the upper classes by copying their lifestyle. Despite the importance of this market, there is relatively little literature existing in regards to the study of the image of luxury brands due to the complexity of the luxury phenomenon. This article presents the results of an initial qualitative study conducted on focus groups of luxury fragrance consumers, making it possible to identify the types of attributes to be considered when studying the brand image of said luxury products. Subsequently, a quantitative study was conducted in order to determine the perceived image of the principle luxury fragrance brands by consumers. Thanks to this study, it has been possible to determine the typical profile of each of the analyzed brands so that a subsequent comparison may be made with the advertising created by said brands in order to verify whether or not the image projected in their advertising corresponds with the perceived image of their target audience.展开更多

Oligomeric proteins are often stabilized by aromatic clusters located within the subunit interfaces. In the present study, the authors constructed five variants of Ps3aHSD (Pseudomonas sp. B-0831 3a-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase) in which one or two residues at the dimer interface were replaced with aromatic residues, and examined the effects of introducing aromatic residues in this region on protein thermostability. Under their experimental conditions, all variants formed dimers, similar to wild-type Ps3aHSD. Thermal denaturation experiments indicated that Tm of all variants was 0.2-16.2 °C lower than that of wild-type protein, indicating less stable thanwild-type protein. The results collectively suggest that aromatic residues of natural oligomeric proteins are strictly posted in the interface to facilitate optimal interactions and avoid conformational strain.展开更多
