[Method] Some physio- logical and biochemical indexes such as weight loss, decay index, opening rate of flowers, chlorophyll and ascorbic acid content, respiration rate, the activities of enzymes, lignin and cellulose content of Chinese chive scapes treated with three kinds of chitosan with different molecular weights were investigated during the room stor- age at 20 ℃ to simulate shelf life. [Result] The results showed that all the treat- ments of chitosan with different molecular weights significantly delayed weight loss, decay index and opening rate of flowers, maintained higher chlorophyll and ascorbic acid content, inhibited respiration rate, reduced the activities of enzymes phenylala- nine ammonia lyase, cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase and peroxidase, and retarded lignin and cellulose accumulation during the storage of Chinese chive scapes. However, high molecular weight chitosan has better preservation effect on Chinese chive scapes. [Conclusion] The results suggest that the coating treatment of high molecu- lar weight chitosan may be a promising technique to maintain postharvest quality of Chinese chive scapes.展开更多

Eight treatments including N, P, K, NP, NK, NPK, PK and controls were done for studying its absorbing efficiency of soil nutrition. At tillering stage, the coefficient of absorbing and utilizing of N, P, and K from soil and fertilizer were analyzed according to M.K. Kaeomobk抯 formula and the contents of crude protein and fat were also measured. The yields of fresh crop, hay and seed were measured at ripening stage. For N absorbing coefficient of Ph. arundinacea from soil (Kn%), the composition PK treatment is best (12.36%) and K treatment is worse, while for N absorbing coefficient from fertilizer (Ky%), all the treatments are higher than control but the composition NPK treatment presented the highest (14.78%). For the absorbing coefficient of P from soil (Kn%), composition NK treatment is highest (19.30%), but K treatment was lower than control, while for that of P from fertilizer (Ky%), all the treatment were higher than control but the composition NP treatment showed the highest (19.52%). As to K absorbing coefficient from soil (Kn%), NP treatment is the best (19.2%) and single P treatment is worst, while for that (Ky%) of K from fertilizer the composition NPK treatment was best (28.44%). As concerns treatments for the outputs of fresh and dry crop, the composition NP treatment was best and all the treatment were higher than control. The composition NK treatment produced highest yield of seed and highest content of crude protein as compared to other treatments. For content of crude fat, the compositions NK and N treatments are best. The experiment indicates that application of fertilizer at proper proportions could increase the yield of Ph. Arundinacea and raise the utilizing efficiency of nourishment element from soil and fertilizer.展开更多

Food colloids open a lot of different possibilities in dessert production, which are used to perform certain functions. Pectin is a traditional agent for jams and jellies, but its application extends to fruit products for the food industry. In food product technology pectin is added as gelling agent and stabilizer. The three apple varieties "Antonovka", "Baltais Dzidrais" and "Zarja Alatau" harvested in Latvia State Institute of Fruit Growing were used for the experiment. Photometric measurement was used to determine the composition of pectin. Pectin was isolated from the apple mass by leaching with ethanol, and from the residues by extracting with diluted sodium hydroxide solution. By adding carbasol and sulphuric acid to the extract, through different intermediate stages carroty condensation product formed, which was photometrically measured at 525 nm. Pectin, pH and soluble dry matter were determined in fresh and frozen apple mass from apples of three ripeness stages. On the basis of worked out functional analysis of colloids, it is possible to optimize regulation of heat processes for different ripeness stages of apples. It is established that ripeness stage influences pectin quantity in fruits, but there are no data about pectin quantity changes in frozen fruits. By fruit ripening under the impact of enzyme protopectinase, protopectin hydrolyzes and transforms into pectin, which flows from the intercellular spaces into protoplasm of cells. Therefore ripe as well as heat treated fruits are soft and loose. It is important to measure pectin in frozen apple mass, in order to determine its potential jellying power. For each kind of product appropriate conditions have to be chosen for freezing, as well as the condition of products before freezing has to be taken into consideration in order to reduce the harmful influence on their quality to the minimum. The results of the research indicate that pectin quantity in frozen apple mass has decreased substantially. This susceptibility of sugar containing products to temperature fluctuations possibly is due to their high concentration of unfrozen water and lower melting temperature. It is possible to calculate the mass fraction of ice depending on temperature and moisture content in product which is very important for prognosticating the product quality. The aim of the research is to compare changes of pectin quantity in fresh and frozen apple products depending on storage time. The research is related to application possibilities of the current colloids, which are used in food industry at present.展开更多

The gel obtained from the leaves of A. vera has numerous properties. In this study, using the gel to extend the shelf life of Ampalavi mango fruits was studied. Even sized, uniform coloured, matured Ampalavi cultivar mango fruits were surface cleaned and coated with 33%, 66% and 100% gel, respectively. Results revealed that the ripening was delayed due to the coating. The total soluble solid (TSS), pH and weight loss were high in uncoated fruits. The mean pH of the pulp from fruits kept as control was 4.94 at 4 d fruit preservation period (FPP) and was slightly increased to 5.43 within 12 d FPP, whereas the minimal pH (4.69 at 4 d FPP and 5.03 at 9 d FPP) was noticed in 100% gel coated fruits. The TSS (brix) was significantly in higher levels (13.67°Bx within 4 d FPP and 20.77°Bx within 12 d FPP) in control fruits, whereas the minimum TSS value was 9.27°Bx and 18.03° Bx within 4 d and 12 d FPP, respectively, recorded from the 100% gel coated fruits in storage. The weight loss percentage (WLP) was significantly (P 〈 0.05) higher in control fruits (8.46%), whereas the lower WLP (1.13%) was found in 100% gel coated fruits after 12 d of storage. This low-scale gel coating technique prolonged the fruits shelf life by delaying the fruit ripening. This effect has to be further investigated to commercialize the natural product for large scale ready-made application.展开更多

The debate between the philosophers John McDowell and Hubert Dreyfus over the nature of perception in general illuminates this issue. McDowell argues that we must see perception as conceptual, while Dreyfus supports a non-conceptual view. McDowell's concept of second nature not only resolves this debate in his favor, but it provides a promising tool for the interpretation of individual films. Moreover, McDowell's conceptual view of perception rules out those approaches to the future of film studies that are based on a non-conceptualist framework. Finally, McDowell's approach leads to an emphasis on interpreting films with a focus on improving moral sensibilities. This perspective provides a viable blueprint for keeping film studies viable.展开更多

CO adsorbed on fresh catalysts showed characteristic IR bands at 2045 cm-1 for Mo2N/Al2O3 catalyst, 2054 cm-1 for MozC/Al2O3 catalyst and 2037 cm-1 for MoP/Al2O3 catalyst, respectively. A strong band at 2200 cm-1 for Mo2N/Al2O3 catalyst, which could be ascribed to NCO species formed when CO reacted upon surface active nitrogen atoms, and a weak band at 2196 cm-1 for Mo2C/Al2O3 catalyst, which could be attributed to CCO species, were also detected. CO adsorbed on fresh Mo2N/Al2O3 catalyst, Mo2C/Al2O3 catalyst and MoP/Al2O3 catalyst, showed strong molecular adsorption, just like noble metals. Our experimental results are bolstered by direct IR evidence demonstrating the similarity in surface electronic property between the fresh Mo2N/Al2O3, Mo2C/Al2O3 and MoP/Al2O3 catalysts and noble metals.展开更多

Thus, the aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of semen storage at 17 ℃ over time on seminal features of peccaries in captivity. Eight adult males were sedated and underwent electroejaculation. The ejaculates (n = 65) were evaluated for volume, concentration, pH, sperm motility, vigor, and cell with intact plasma membrane intact (IPM) and sperm morphology. Selected ejaculates (n = 21) were diluted (1:1) in Beltsville Thawing Solution and kept during 48 hours under controlled temperature (17 ℃). Assessments were made after dilution (TO), after 24 hours (T24), and 48 hours after the onset of cooling (T48). The storage impacted on sperm survival (P 〈 0.05). Semen characteristics changed throughout the storage period studied and after 48 hours storage. The decline of sperm motility was of 55.2% for 10.9%, vigor was 2.3 for 0.5 and IPM cells were of 59.0% for 15.8%. Primary defects sperm increased of 19.8% for 32.2%, secondary defects of 9.8% for 10.4% and total defects of 29.4% for 42.7%. However, within 24 hours of preservation, chilled semen peccaries presented sperm motility average rate and IMP cells levels indicative to use in assisted reproductive events. These results indicate chilled semen for 24 hours could be used in experimentally artificial insemination of peccaries, technology that still has not been performed before.展开更多

Five experimental diets were formulated at 0% and 20%-22% inclusion level of recycled food wastes. The diets were designated as D 1: 0% of recycled food waste, D2: 20% inclusion of FIW, D3: 20% inclusion of FIW and SSW, D4: 20% inclusion of FIW and tryptophan, and D5: 22% inclusion of SSW. The result from the body composition shows that D I had higher carcass protein, while D3 had the highest lipid content and there was no significant difference in the carcass moisture and ash contents among all treatments. The results of microbial viable cell counts showed that no significant differences were observed among the dietary treatments and all the fish fed experimental diets still remained fresh four days after refrigerated storage at 5 ~C. In addition, no significant differences were noted among the K value concentrations of all the fish fed the experimental diets. From the result of this study, we concluded that using 20% inclusion of recycled food waste materials (FIW and SSW) in the diet of tilapia had no negative effect on the flesh of the fish; hence, recycled food waste could be a good alternative ingredient to aquaculture.展开更多

The crop is mostly consumed, processed or sold. Extending shelf-life of roots is crucial for Malawi and Northern Ghana as the crop has high value. Trials were conducted in the countries at the community level. In the dry season, temperature is cool in Malawi while warm in Ghana, but thru harmattan, the night is cool with low relative humidity. In Malawi, orange-fleshed sweetpotato Zondeni var., white and yellow types were assessed in three types of storage, Afghan ventilated pit store, storage in dry sand of pit-steps, and of a granary In Ghana, local moistened heap and sandbox were compared. In Malawi, weight losses were calculated relative to the quantity stored at start, it was not cumulative. At 1.5 months no significant difference was among treatments. By 3.5 months the pit-steps method emerged to be superior and continued to 6.5 months. Losses in granary were due to shriveling, in the pit-stepsdue to termites and rats, and in ventilated pit due to termites, rats and Java black rot. Sprouting was high in pit-steps, but it was simply removed and roots returned to storage. At 6.5 months, the beta-carotene of Zondeni roots was traceable. Farmers gained high price when selling them as roots were scarce. Women favored the pit-steps because it was manageable. In Ghana, the sandbox was superior to local moistened heap. Methods designed were suitable for home consumption, but will require modification for commercialization.展开更多

This effect has to be further investigated to commercialize the natural product for large scale ready-made application.
文摘A key issue for the future direction of film studies is what is the nature of the perception film viewers have of a film and what is the nature of the perception characters in a film have of other characters in the film. This perspective provides a viable blueprint for keeping film studies viable.

文摘The surface nature of fresh Mo2N/Al2O3, Mo2C/Al2O3 and/MoP/Al2O3 catalysts, which were synthesized directly in the IR cell to avoid passivation, were characterized by in situ IR spectroscopy with CO as a probe molecule. Our experimental results are bolstered by direct IR evidence demonstrating the similarity in surface electronic property between the fresh Mo2N/Al2O3, Mo2C/Al2O3 and MoP/Al2O3 catalysts and noble metals.
文摘The trade creation and conservation of wild species in Amazon, including collared peccaries (Pecari tajacu), may be favored by artificial insemination, but the time of semen storage may lead to reduced fertility in sperm of some wild animals. These results indicate chilled semen for 24 hours could be used in experimentally artificial insemination of peccaries, technology that still has not been performed before.
文摘This study was designed to evaluate the sensory quality indices, freshness assessment and safety of eating Nile tilapia fed recycled food waste materials [food industry waste (FIW) and soy sauce waste (SSW)] for 32 weeks using K values, IMP content and microbial viable cell count. From the result of this study, we concluded that using 20% inclusion of recycled food waste materials (FIW and SSW) in the diet of tilapia had no negative effect on the flesh of the fish; hence, recycled food waste could be a good alternative ingredient to aquaculture.
文摘Uni-modal rainfall pattern has long dry spell wherein sweetpotato is scarce, expensive but cheap at harvest. Methods designed were suitable for home consumption, but will require modification for commercialization.
