Simulation models have been introduced recently in bioengineering and could become an essential tool in the study of any physiological unity, regardless of its complexity. The main problem in modeling with finite elements simulation is to achieve an accurate reproduction of the anatomy and a perfect correlation of the different structures, in any region of the human body. Authors have developed a mixed technique, joining the use of a three-dimensional laser scanner Roland Picza captured together with computed tomography(CT) and 3D CT images, to achieve a perfect reproduction of the anatomy. Finite element(FE) simulation lets us know the biomechanical changes that take place after hipprostheses or osteosynthesis implantation and biological responses of bone to biomechanical changes. The simulation models are able to predict changes in bone stress distribution around the implant, so allowing preventing future pathologies. The development of a FE model of lumbar spine is another interesting application of the simulation. The model allows research on the lumbar spine, not only in physiological conditions but also simulating different load conditions, to assess the impact on biomechanics. Different degrees of disc degeneration can also be simulated to determine the impact on adjacent anatomical elements. Finally, FE models may be useful to test different fixation systems, i.e., pedicular screws, interbody devices or rigid fixations compared with the dynamic ones. We have also developed models of lumbar spine and hip joint to predict the occurrence of osteoporotic fractures, based on densitometric determinations and specific biomechanical models, including approaches from damage and fracture mechanics. FE simulations also allow us to predict the behavior of orthopedic splints applied to the correction of deformities, providing the recovering force-displacement and angle-moment curves that characterize the mechanical behavior of the splint in the overall range of movement.展开更多

HF enhances the connectivity of less permeable oil and gas-bearing rock formationsby fluid injection, which creates an interconnected fracture network and increases the hydrocarbonproduction. Meanwhile, microseismic (MS) monitoring is one of the most effective approaches to evaluatesuch stimulation process. In this paper, the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM) isadopted to numerically simulate HF and associated MS. Several post-processing tools, includingfrequency-magnitude distribution (b-value), fractal dimension (D-value), and seismic events clustering, are utilized to interpret numerical results. A non-parametric clustering algorithm designed specificallyfor FDEM is used to reduce the mesh dependency and extract more realistic seismic information.Simulation results indicated that at the local scale, the HF process tends to propagate following the rockmass discontinuities; while at the reservoir scale, it tends to develop in the direction parallel to themaximum in-situ stress. 2014 Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In generalizing the SPIF of sheet metal, the deformation analysis on forming process becomes an important and useful method for the planning of shell products, the choice of material, the design of the forming process and the planning of the forming tool. Using solid brick elements, the finite element method(FEM) model of truncated pyramid was established. Based on the theory of anisotropy and assumed strain formulation, the SPIF processes with different parameters were simulated. The resulted comparison between the simulations and the experiments shows that the FEM model is feasible and effective. Then, according to the simulated forming process, the deformation pattern of SPIF can be summarized as the combination of plane-stretching deformation and bending deformation. And the study about the process parameters' impact on deformation shows that the process parameter of interlayer spacing is a dominant factor on the deformation. Decreasing interlayer spacing, the strain of one step decreases and the formability of blank will be improved. With bigger interlayer spacing, the plastic deformation zone increases and the forming force will be bigger.展开更多

The electrical thermal analysis of the BTL cell and the blade heater contactor structure by three-dimensional finite element modeling are compared with each other during RESET operation. The simulation results show that the programming region of the phase change layer in the BTL cell is much smaller, and thermal electrical distributions of the BTL cell are more concentrated on the TiN/GST interface. The results indicate that the BTL cell has the superiorities of increasing the heating efficiency, decreasing the power consumption and reducing the RESET current from 0.67mA to 0.32mA. Asphalt mow strips have historically been modeled as a rigid layer in simulations;this assumption results in significant ground level restraint on the guardrail post. However, experiments have shown that asphalt rupture should be considered in the analysis of the response of guardrail posts embedded in mow strips. The present study investigates the effect of asphalt material properties and mow strip geometry on guardrail post performance using finite element simulations. Numerical simulations are performed and correlated with results from static experiments and material testing. The test simulations and experimental results are used to evaluate the response of guardrail posts with various mow strip designs to predict the level of restraint from the asphalt layer. The model is then used to investigate the effects of asphalt material properties and mow strip geometry on the overall performance of the system. The results demonstrate that including asphalt rupture in numerical simulations is essential in accurately predicting the behavior of guardrail posts installed in asphalt mow strips. In addition, mow strip geometry along with asphalt material properties significantly affect the guardrail post response.展开更多

文摘Linear motors generate high heat and cause significant deformation in high speed direct feed drive mechanisms. It is relevant to estimate their deformation behavior to improve their application in precision machine tools. This paper describes a method to estimate its thermal deformation based on updated finite element(FE)model methods.Firstly,a FE model is established for a linear motor drive test rig that includes the correlation between temperature rise and its resulting deformation. The relationship between the input and output variables of the FE model is identified with a modified multivariate input/output least square support vector regression machine.Additionally, the temperature rise and displacements at some critical points on the mechanism are obtained experimentally by a system of thermocouples and an interferometer. The FE model is updated through intelligent comparison between the experimentally measured values and the results from the regression machine. The experiments for testing thermal behavior along with the updated FE model simulations is conducted on the test rig in reciprocating cycle drive conditions. The results show that the intelligently updated FE model can be implemented to analyze the temperature variation distribution of the mechanism and to estimate its thermal behavior. The accuracy of the thermal behavior estimation with the optimally updated method can be more than double that of the initial theoretical FE model. This paper provides a simulation method that is effective to estimate the thermal behavior of the direct feed drive mechanism with high accuracy.

文摘Based on presumed active fault and corresponding model, this paper predicted the near-fault ground motion filed of a scenario earthquake (Mw=6 3/4 ) in an active fault by the explicit finite element method in combination with the source time function with improved transmitting artificial boundary and with high-frequency vibration contained. The results indicate that the improved artificial boundary is stable in numerical computation and the predicted strong ground motion has a consistent characteristic with the observed motion.
文摘The rotary forging process of a disc is simulated by 3-D finite element method. The motion of the rotary the is described as the combination of a revolution round the machine axis and a spin round the rotary die axis. Therefore, the workpiece can be loaded and unloaded partly and cyclically by the cone surface of the rotary the continuously, according with the practical rotary forging process. From the siumulation rasults, the causes of center-thinning during rotary forging of discs are that the locally loading of rotary die made the workpiece center get high radial and tangential tensile stresses, and then the shortening in axial direction and the elongating in tangential and radial direction occur continuous- ly.

文摘Hydraulic fracturing (HF) technique has been extensively used for the exploitation of unconventional oiland gas reservoirs. 文摘Nonlinear finite element simulation for mechanical response of surface mounted solder joint under different temperature cycling was carried out. Seven sets of parameters were used in order to evaluate the influence of temperature cycling profile parameters. The results show that temperature cycling history has significant effect on the stress response of the solder joint. Based on the concept of relative damage stress proposed by the authors, it is found that enough high temperature holding time is necessary for designing the temperature cycling profile in accelerated thermal fatigue test.

文摘Single-point incremental forming (SPIF) is an innovational sheet metal forming method without dedicated dies, which belongs to rapid prototyping technology. With bigger interlayer spacing, the plastic deformation zone increases and the forming force will be bigger.

文摘An optimized device structure for reducing the RESET current of phase-change random access memory (PCRAM) with blade-type like (BTL) phase change layer is proposed. Therefore, the BTL cell will be appropriate for high performance PCRAM device with lower power consumption and lower RESET current.

文摘Due to the low permeability of tight reservoirs, throats play a significant role in controlling fluid flow.Although many studies have been conducted to investigate fluid flow in throats in the microscale domain, comparatively fewer works have been devoted to study the effect of adsorption boundary layer(ABL)in throats based on the digital rock method.By considering an ABL,we investigate its effects on fluid flow.We build digital rock model based on computed tomography technology. Then, microscopic pore structures are extracted with watershed segmentation and pore geometries are meshed through Delaunay triangulation approach. Finally, using the meshed digital simulation model and finite element method,we investigate the effects of viscosity and thickness of ABL on microscale flow. Our results demonstrate that viscosity and thickness of ABL are major factors that significantly hinder fluid flow in throats.
文摘Asphalt mow strips are typically used as vegetation barriers around guardrail posts in the design of roadside safety structures. In addition, mow strip geometry along with asphalt material properties significantly affect the guardrail post response.
