The whole analytical chain, including the weighing step in sample preparation prior to fusion, is of crucial importance to get precise and accurate x-ray fluorescence (XRF) results. Consequently, the weighing method will affect the quality of the analytical results given by the spectrometer. In this study, the effects of different weighing methods on the precision (RSD) of the obtained XRF results are compared to determine the best weighing method for sample preparation by fusion in terms of comparable precisions in the XRF results.展开更多
Photometric observations of AH Cnc, a W UMa-type system in the open cluster M67, were car- fled out by using the 50BIN telescope. About 100h of time-series/3- and V-band data were taken, based on which eight new times...Photometric observations of AH Cnc, a W UMa-type system in the open cluster M67, were car- fled out by using the 50BIN telescope. About 100h of time-series/3- and V-band data were taken, based on which eight new times of light minima were determined. By applying the Wilson-Devinney method, the light curves were modeled and a revised photometric solution of the binary system was derived. We con- firmed that AH Cnc is a deep contact (f = 51%), low mass-ratio (q - 0.156) system. Adopting the distance modulus derived from study of the host cluster, we have re-calculated the physical parameters of the binary system, namely the masses and radii. The masses and radii of the two components were estimated to be respectively 1.188(4-0.061) Me, 1.332(4-0.063) RQ for the primary component and 0.185(4-0.032) Me, 0.592(4-0.051) Re for the secondary. By adding the newly derived minimum timings to all the available data, the period variations of AH Cnc were studied. This shows that the orbital period of the binary is con- tinuously increasing at a rate of dp/dt = 4.29 x 10-10 d yr-1. In addition to the long-term period increase, a cyclic variation with a period of 35.26 yr was determined, which could be attributed to an unresolved tertiary component of the system.展开更多

The research quality of an astronomical facility is rooted in the precision...An astronomical observatory is the core component of any astronomical research facility that connects astronomers with their lab: the Cosmos. The research quality of an astronomical facility is rooted in the precision of data, collected by its observatory. For optimal performance, an observatory is sited while considering certain astronomical, environmental, geological and social parameters. This study aims to identify the potential sites in Pakistan for locating an optical-astronomical observatory using the Multicriteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) technique. The study uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) for deriving the influence weights of nine evaluation criteria: Photometric Night Fraction;Night-time Sky Brightness;Sky Transparency;Aerosol Concentration;Altitude;Terrain Slope;Accessibility;Seismic Vulnerability;and Landuse/Land Cover. On the basis of experts’ opinions and previous studies, the evaluation criteria have been ordered in two possible preference sequences for identifying their influence weights with respect to each other for taking part in MCDA. Consequently, the process of MCDA identified certain areas with respect to each preference sequence, whereas some areas were found to be suitable according to both preference sequences. The study synchronizes the required eclectic data into an evaluation matrix that augments the process of astronomical site selection. The LE is the low energy telescope that is carried on Insight-HXMT.It uses swept charge devices(SCDs)to detect soft X-ray photons.LE’s time response is caused by the structure of the SCDs.With theoretical analysis an...The LE is the low energy telescope that is carried on Insight-HXMT.It uses swept charge devices(SCDs)to detect soft X-ray photons.LE’s time response is caused by the structure of the SCDs.With theoretical analysis and Monte Carlo simulations we discuss the influence of LE time response(LTR)on the timing analysis from three aspects:the power spectral density,the pulse profile and the time lag.After the LTR,the value of power spectral density monotonously decreases with the increasing frequency.The power spectral density of a sinusoidal signal reduces by a half at frequency 536 Hz.The corresponding frequency for quasi-periodic oscillation(QPO)signals is 458 Hz.The root mean square(RMS)of QPOs holds a similar behaviour.After the LTR,the centroid frequency and full width at half maxima(FWHM)of QPOs signals do not change.The LTR reduces the RMS of pulse profiles and shifts the pulse phase.In the time domain,the LTR only reduces the peak value of the cross-correlation function while it does not change the peak position;thus it will not affect the result of the time lag.When considering the time lag obtained from two instruments and one among them is LE,a 1.18 ms lag is expected caused by the LTR.The time lag calculated in the frequency domain is the same as that in the time domain.展开更多
Olivine and pyroxene are important mineral end-members for studying the surface material compositions of mafic bodies.The profiles of visible and near-infrared spectra of olivine-orthopyroxene mixtures systematically ...Olivine and pyroxene are important mineral end-members for studying the surface material compositions of mafic bodies.The profiles of visible and near-infrared spectra of olivine-orthopyroxene mixtures systematically vary with their composition ratios.In our experiments,we combine the RELAB spectral database with new spectral data obtained from some assembled olivine-orthopyroxene mixtures.We found that the commonly-used band area ratio(BAR,Cloutis et al.)does not work well on our newly obtained spectral data.To investigate this issue,an empirical procedure based on fitted results by a modified Gaussian model is proposed to analyze the spectral curves.Following the new empirical procedure,the endmember abundances can be estimated with a 15%accuracy with some prior mineral absorption features.In addition,the mixture samples configured in our experiments are also irradiated by pulsed lasers to simulate and investigate the space weathering effects.Spectral deconvolution results confirm that low-content olivine on celestial bodies is difficult to measure and estimate.Therefore,the olivine abundance of space weathered materials may be underestimated from remote sensing data.This study may be utilized to quantify the spectral relationship of olivine-orthopyroxene mixtures and further reveal their correlation between the spectra of ordinary chondrites and silicate asteroids.展开更多

The working mode of the CE-1 MRM, the ground calibration (including the official calibration coefficients), as well as the acquisition and processing of the raw data are introduced. Our data analysis shows that TB increases with increasing frequency, decreases towards the lunar poles and is significantly affected by solar illumination. Our analysis also reveals that the main uncertainty in TB comes from ground calibration.展开更多
