The song is similar to those of the other species within the Turtur genus and likely reflects the adaptation to long distance signalling in tropical habitats. There is no study assessing individual variation of the Tambourine Dove song or for the possibility of identity coding through song features. Methods: We obtained recordings of 578 songs from 41 males within a population inhabiting montane forest in Cameroon between 2008 and 2018. Additionally, we analysed also recordings from automatic recorders working for a longer time during the year. Songs were analysed to get basic information about within- and between-individual spectro-temporal variation. Potential of identity coding and discriminant analyses were used to investigate if and how these songs may convey information about male identity. Results: The song of the Tambourine Dove is a very simple series of short, unmodulated whistles with low frequency and a narrow bandwidth. Measurements of single song features indicated either none or a weak potential for identity coding. The overall variation in song frequency characteristics was very low. However, the number of notes forming a song (and consequently the duration) had a similar variability both within- and between individuals. When using multiple song measurements discrimination analysis revealed a high potential for identity coding although it seems that the temporal pattern of the beginning of a song carries the most information about sender identity. The production of initial notes within a song has very precise, individually specific timing allowing for up to 96.7% correct recognitions of songs. Comparison of recordings from the same points but separated in time by over a month indicates that song parameters are individually stable over longer period. Conclusions: Despite having highly stereotyped and simple songs, Tambourine Dove males produce individually specific signals which have a great potential for recognition by rivals or mates. All Turtur doves have similar yet unique songs that are different to the songs of other pigeon species. This genus seems to be a perfect model for studying the trade-off between coding for species identity and individual identity in a non-learning bird species. The described method of individual recognition allows for nonintrusive population monitoring.展开更多

The "Tangentopoli" scandal was still to come, but the seed of anti-politics started to grow in collective mentality. Italian singers-songwriters, the so-called "cantautori" (a portmanteau of cantare, to sing, and autori, authors), were interested in these developments; their songs commented on elements that played a crucial role, few years later, in the irreversible crisis of the "prima repubblica": the overwhelming power of political parties, the "consociativismo" (secret power agreements between the government and the opposition), the corruption, the growing and pervasive role of mass media Through the songs of singers-songwriters, the present essay traces the season of the scandal of "Tangentopoli", stopping at 1994, the year of the victory of"Forza Italia", the new political party founded by Silvio Berlusconi展开更多

文摘The key point in studying or teaching the history of Chinese medicine is on the doctrines underlying it and on its perception of the body, physiology, pathology, and its treatment.Namely, there is often a tendency to focus on reading and analysing the classical canons and therapy-related texts including formularies and materia medica collections. However, focusing on these sources provides us with a one-sided presentation of Chinese medicine. These primary sources lack the clinical down-to-earth know-how that encompasses medical treatment, which are represented, for instance,in the clinical rounds of modern medical schools. Our traditional focus on the medical canons and formularies provides almost no clinical knowledge, leaving us with a one-sided narrative that ignores how medicine and healing are actually practiced in the field. This paper focuses on the latter aspect of medicine from a historical perspective.Using written and visual sources dating to the Song dynasty, clinical encounters between doctors and patients including their families are depicted based on case records recorded by a physician, members of the patient’s family, and bystanders. This array of case records or case stories will enable us to narrate the interaction between physicians and patients both from the clinical perspective and from the social interaction. This paper will also discuss visual depictions of the medical encounter to provide another perspective for narrating medicine during the Song dynasty.Medical case records and paintings depicting medical encounters are exemplary of the potential of Chinese primary sources for narrative medicine.

文摘Binomial N-mixture models are commonly applied to estimate abundance unaffected by imperfect detection, but are known to be sensitive to violations of assumptions. One of the model’s assumptions, the independence of detections has rarely been tested. It requires that during a survey, detection of one individual does not affect detection of another individual. This assumption can be frequently violated in passerine birds, which exhibit territorial behaviour by singing, since neighbouring individuals are likely to motivate each other to vocalize, leading to non-independence in singing activity and in the following detection rate. Here,we explored this phenomenon with the generalized, binomial version of the N-mixture model, where detection probability is decomposed into availability probability φ-which can be interpreted as per capita song rate or the probability of vocalising-and actual detection probability p,given vocalisations take place.Using repeated counts of the Collared Flycatcher(Ficedula albicollis)as a case study, and treating the maximum observed counts C_(maxi) at a site i as an explanatory covariate for φ,we showed that per capita song rates increased with observed counts at a site.Hence,if song rates vary due to local abundance, including C_(maxi)as an explanatory variable for song rate addressed with φ,helps to explain this variation(which otherwise goes undetected)and improves inferences under the model. This had strong effects on the resulting abundance estimates:if this relationship was ignored in the models, total estimated population sizes were consequently lower by as much as 22-27%,compared to when this effect was included.Since it is likely that song rates may commonly be density-dependent in birds manifesting territorial behaviours by singing, further tests addressing violations of independence assumptions in these models are needed. As suggested by Kery and Royle(2016),despite some form of circularity likely being involved, modelling heterogeneity in the detection process with the help of C_(maxi)in standard N-mixture models(which, given availability, conflate availability with detection in a single parameter)should be applicable as well.
文摘Multi-group cross section library is the basic condition for lattice calculation, which provides the necessary nuclear data parameters. The multi-functional lattice code SONG(Si et al. in Nucl Power Eng 35:111–115,2014. doi:10.13832/j.jnpe.2014.S2.0112; Chen et al. in Nucl Power Eng 35:127–130, 2014. doi:10.13832/j.jnpe.2014.S2.0127) is developed to adapt to the research demands of different types of new reactors, especially the fourth generation(GEN-IV) reactors(Cerullo and Lomonaco in Nucl Fuel Cycle Sci Eng, 2012. doi:10.1533/9780857096388.3.333; Giorgio et al. in Energy Policy61:1503–1520, 2013. doi:10.1016/j.enpol.2013.06.101).The corresponding multi-group cross section library of SONG(SONGLIB) is well designed with much effort considering the next generation reactors' new feature in material, spectrum, burnup depth, etc. Therefore, the burnup chain(Maria and Jaakko in Nucl Sci Eng164:140–150, 2010. doi:10.13182/NSE09-14), energy group structure(Tholakele et al. in Ann Nucl Energy80:279–292, 2015. doi:10.1016/j.anucene.2015.01.038),and reaction path should be specially considered. The library SONGLIB is processed with the Evaluated Nuclear Data File(ENDF), nuclide data auxiliary processing code NJOYBAT(Si et al. 2014), and library management code MANLIB(Si et al. 2014). A series of verification work of SONGLIB is then carried out, and the calculated results are satisfied.
文摘In the mid- 1980s, in Italy the first symptoms of a crisis in the traditional party system, later known as the prima repubblica or "first republic", began to emerge. The "Tangentopoli" scandal was still to come, but the seed of anti-politics started to grow in collective mentality. Italian singers-songwriters, the so-called "cantautori" (a portmanteau of cantare, to sing, and autori, authors), were interested in these developments; their songs commented on elements that played a crucial role, few years later, in the irreversible crisis of the "prima repubblica": the overwhelming power of political parties, the "consociativismo" (secret power agreements between the government and the opposition), the corruption, the growing and pervasive role of mass media Through the songs of singers-songwriters, the present essay traces the season of the scandal of "Tangentopoli", stopping at 1994, the year of the victory of"Forza Italia", the new political party founded by Silvio Berlusconi

文摘Fe single-atom catalysts(Fe-SACs)have been extensively studied as a highly efficient electrocatalyst toward the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).Nonetheless, they suffer from stability issue induced by dissolution of Fe metal center and the OH^(−)blocking.Herein,a surface molecular engineering strategy is developed by usingβ-cyclodextrins(CDs)as a localized molecular encapsulation. The CD-modified Fe-SAC(Fe-SNC-β-CD)shows obviously improved activity toward the ORR with 0.90 V,4.10 and 4.09 mA cm^(-2)for E_(1/2),J_(0)and Jk0.9,respectively.Meanwhile,the Fe-SNC-β-CD shows the excellent long-term stability against aggressive stress and the poisoning. It is confirmed through electrochemical investigation that modification ofβ-CD can,on one hand, regulate the atomic Fe coordination chemistry through the interaction between the CD and FeN_(x) moiety, while on the other mitigate the strong adsorption of OH^(−)and function as protective barrier against the poisoning molecules leading to enhanced ORR activity and stability for the Fe-SACs.The molecular encapsulation strategy demonstrates the uniqueness of post-pyrolysis surface molecular engineering for the design of single-atom catalyst.
