The all-wheel drive(AWD)hybrid system is a research focus on high-performance new energy vehicles that can meet the demands of dynamic performance and passing ability.Simultaneous optimization of the power and economy of hybrid vehicles becomes an issue.A unique multi-mode coupling(MMC)AWD hybrid system is presented to realize the distributed and centralized driving of the front and rear axles to achieve vectored distribution and full utilization of the system power between the axles of vehicles.Based on the parameters of the benchmarking model of a hybrid vehicle, the best model-predictive control-based energy management strategy is proposed.First, the drive system model was built after the analysis of the MMC-AWD’s drive modes.Next, three fundamental strategies were established to address power distribution adjustment and battery SOC maintenance when the SOC changed, which was followed by the design of a road driving force observer. Then, the energy consumption rate in the average time domain was processed before designing the minimum fuel consumption controller based on the equivalent fuel consumption coefficient. Finally, the advantage of the MMC-AWD was confirmed by comparison with the dynamic performance and economy of the BYD Song PLUS DMI-AWD.The findings indicate that,in comparison to the comparative hybrid system at road adhesion coefficients of 0.8 and 0.6,the MMC-AWD’s capacity to accelerate increases by 5.26%and 7.92%,respectively.When the road adhesion coefficient is 0.8,0.6,and 0.4,the maximum climbing ability increases by 14.22%,12.88%,and 4.55%,respectively.As a result, the dynamic performance is greatly enhanced, and the fuel savings rate per 100 km of mileage reaches 12.06%,which is also very economical. The proposed control strategies for the new hybrid AWD vehicle can optimize the power and economy simultaneously. 展开更多

The trajectory tracking control performance of nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots(NWMRs)is subject to nonholonomic constraints, system uncertainties, and external disturbances. This paper proposes a barrier function-based adaptive sliding mode control(BFASMC)method to provide high-precision,fast-response performance and robustness for NWMRs.Compared with the conventional adaptive sliding mode control, the proposed control strategy can guarantee that the sliding mode variables converge to a predefined neighborhood of origin with a predefined reaching time independent of the prior knowledge of the uncertainties and disturbances bounds.Another advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the control gains can be adaptively adjusted to follow the disturbances amplitudes thanks to the barrier function. The benefit is that the overestimation of control gain can be eliminated, resulting in chattering reduction. Moreover,a modified barrier function-like control gain is employed to prevent the input saturation problem due to the physical limit of the actuator. The stability analysis and comparative experiments demonstrate that the proposed BFASMC can ensure the prespecified convergence performance of the NWMR system output variables and strong robustness against uncertainties/disturbances. 展开更多

Wheel polygonal wear can immensely worsen wheel/rail interactions and vibration performances of the train and track, and ultimately, lead to the shortening of service life of railway components. At present,wheel/rail medium-or high-frequency frictional interactions are perceived as an essential reason of the high-order polygonal wear of railway wheels, which are potentially resulted by the flexible deformations of the train/track system or other external excitations. In this work, the effect of wheel/rail flexibility on polygonal wear evolution of heavy-haul locomotive wheels is explored with aid of the long-term wheel polygonal wear evolution simulations,in which different flexible modeling of the heavy-haul wheel/rail coupled system is implemented.Further, the mitigation measures for the polygonal wear of heavy-haul locomotive wheels are discussed. The results point out that the evolution of polygonal wear of heavy-haul locomotive wheels can be veritably simulated with consideration of the flexible effect of both wheelset and rails.Execution of mixed-line operation of heavy-haul trains and application of multicut wheel re-profiling can effectively reduce the development of wheel polygonal wear. This research can provide a deep-going understanding of polygonal wear evolution mechanism of heavy-haul locomotive wheels and its mitigation measures. 展开更多

To explore the impact of wheel-rail excitation on the dynamic performance of axle box bearings,a dynamic model of the high-speed train including axle box bearings is developed.Subsequently, the dynamic response characteristics of the axle box bearing are examined. The investigation focuses on the acceleration characteristics of bearing vibration under excitation of track irregularities and wheel flats. In addition, experiments on both normal and faulty bearings are conducted separately, and the correctness of the model and some conclusions are verified.According to the research, track irregularity is unfavorable for bearing fault detection based on resonance demodulation.Under the same speed conditions, the acceleration peak of bearing is inversely proportional to the length of the wheel flat and directly proportional to its depth. The paper will contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic performance of axle box bearings. 展开更多

Purpose-This paper aims to analyze the stress and strain distribution on the track wheel web surface and study the optimal strain gauge location for force measurement system of the track wheel.Design/methodology/approach-Finite element method was employed to analyze the stress and strain distribution on the track wheel web surface under varying wheel-rail forces.Locations with minimal coupling interference between vertical and lateral forces were identified as suitable for strain gauge installation.Findings-The results show that due to the track wheel web’s unique curved shape and wheel-rail force loading mechanism, both tensile and compressive states exit on the surface of the web. When vertical force is applied,Mises stress and strain are relatively high near the inner radius of 710 mm and the outer radius of 1110mmof the web.Under lateral force, high Mises stress and strain are observed near the radius of 670mmon the inner and outer sides of the web.As the wheel-rail force application point shifts laterally toward the outer side, the Mises stress and strain near the inner radius of 710 mm of the web gradually decrease under vertical force while gradually increasing near the outer radius of 1110 mm of the web.Under lateral force, the Mises stress and strain on the surface of the web remain relatively unchanged regardless of the wheel-rail force application point.Based on the analysis of stress and strain on the surface of the web under different wheel-rail forces, the inner radius of 870 mm is recommended as the optimal mounting location of strain gauges for measuring vertical force, while the inner radius of 1143 mm is suitable for measuring lateral force.Originality/value-The research findings provide valuable insights for determining optimal strain gauge locations and designing an effective track wheel force measurement system. 展开更多

Enhancing ride comfort has always constituted a crucial focus in the design and research of modern tracked vehicles, heavily reliant on the driving system's performance. While the road wheel is a key component of the driving system, traditional road wheels predominantly adopt a solid structure, exhibiting subpar adhesion performance and damping effects, thereby falling short of meeting the demands for high-speed,stable,and long-distance driving in tracked vehicles.Addressing this issue, this paper proposes a novel type of flexible road wheel(FRW)characterized by a catenary construction. The study investigates the ride comfort of tracked vehicles equipped with flexible road wheels by integrating finite element and vehicle dynamic.First,three-dimensional(3D)finite element(FE)models of both flexible and rigid road wheels are established, considering material and contact nonlinearities. These models are validated through a wheel radial loading test.Based on the validated FE model, the paper uncovers the relationship between load and radial deformation of the road wheel, forming the basis for a nonlinear mathematical model.Subsequently,a half-car model of a tracked vehicle with seven degrees of freedom is established using Newton's second law.A random road model, considering the track effect and employing white noise,is constructed. The study concludes by examining the ride comfort of tracked vehicles equipped with flexible and rigid road wheels under various speeds and road grades. The results demonstrate that,in comparison to the rigid road wheel(RRW),the flexible road wheel enhances the ride comfort of tracked vehicles on randomly uneven roads. This research provides a theoretical foundation for the implementation of flexible road wheels in tracked vehicles. 展开更多

Exercise training is critical for the early prevention and treatment of obesity and diabetes mellitus. However, the mechanism with gut microbiota and fecal metabolites underlying the effects of voluntary wheel running on high-fat diet induced abnormal glucose metabolism has not been fully elaborated.C57BL/6 male mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups according to diets(fed with normal chow diet or high-fat diet)and running paradigm(housed in static cage or with voluntary running wheel). An integrative 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolites profiling was synchronously performed to characterize the effects of voluntary wheel running on gut microbiota and metabolites. It showed that voluntary wheel running prevented the detrimental effects of high-fat feeding on glucose metabolism 16S rDNA sequencing showed remarkable changes in Rikenella and Marvinbryantia genera.Metabolic profiling indicated multiple altered metabolites, which were enriched in secondary bile acid biosynthesis signaling. In conclusion, our study indicated that voluntary wheel running significantly improved glucose metabolism and counteracted the deleterious effects of high-fat feeding on body weight and glucose intolerance. We further found that voluntary wheel running could integratively program gut microbiota composition and fecal metabolites changes, and may regulate muricholic acid metabolism and secondary bile acid biosynthesis in high-fat fed mice. 展开更多

The wheels have a considerable influence on the aerodynamic properties and can contribute up to 25%of the total drag on modern vehicles. In this study, the effect of the wheel spoke structure on the aerodynamic performance of the isolated wheel is investigated.Subsequently, the 35°Ahmed body with an optimized spoke structure is used to analyze the flow behavior and the mechanism of drag reduction. The Fluent software is employed for this investigation, with an inlet velocity of 40 m/s.The accuracy of the numerical study is validated by comparing it with experimental results obtained from the classical Ahmed model. To gain a clearer understanding of the effects of the wheel spoke parameters on the aerodynamics of both the wheel and Ahmedmodel, and five design variables are proposed:the fillet angleα,the inside arc radius R1,the outside radius R2,and the same length of the chord L1 and L2.These variables characterize the wheel spoke structure. The Optimal Latin Hypercube designmethod is utilized to conduct the experimental design.Based on the simulation results of various wheel spoke designs, the Kriging model and the adaptive simulated annealing algorithm is selected to optimize the design parameters. The objective is to achieve the best combination for maximum drag reduction. It is indicated that the optimized spoke structure resulted in amaximum drag reduction of 5.7%and 4.7%for the drag coefficient of the isolated wheel and Ahmed body, respectively. The drag reduction is primarily attributed to changes in the flow state around the wheel, which suppressed separation bubbles.Additionally,it influenced the boundary layer thickness around the car body and reduced the turbulent kinetic energy in the wake flow. These effects collectively contributed to the observed drag reduction. 展开更多

Driving fatigue is a physiological phenomenon that often occurs during driving. After the driver enters a fatigued state, the attentionis lax,the response is slow, and the ability todeal with emergencies is significantly reduced, which can easily cause traffic accidents. Therefore, studying driver fatigue detectionmethods is significant in ensuring safe driving. However, the fatigue state of actual drivers is easily interfered with by the external environment(glasses and light),which leads to many problems, such as weak reliability of fatigue driving detection. Moreover, fatigue is a slow process, first manifested in physiological signals and then reflected in human face images. To improve the accuracy and stability of fatigue detection, this paper proposed a driver fatigue detection method based on image information and physiological information, designed a fatigue driving detection device, built a simulation driving experiment platform, and collected facial as well as physiological information of drivers during driving. Finally, the effectiveness of the fatigue detection method was evaluated.Eye movement feature parameters and physiological signal features of drivers’fatigue levels were extracted. The driver fatigue detection model was trained to classify fatigue and non-fatigue states based on the extracted features.Accuracy rates of the image, electroencephalogram(EEG),and blood oxygen signals were 86%,82%,and 71%,separately.Information fusion theory was presented to facilitate the fatigue detection effect;the fatigue features were fused using multiple kernel learning and typical correlation analysis methods to increase the detection accuracy to 94%.It can be seen that the fatigue driving detectionmethod based onmulti-source feature fusion effectively detected driver fatigue state, and the accuracy rate was higher than that of a single information source. In summary, fatigue drivingmonitoring has broad development prospects and can be used in traffic accident prevention and wearable driver fatigue recognition. 展开更多

Controlling mass transportation using intrinsic mechanisms is a challenging topic in nanotechnology.Herein,we employ molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the mass transport inside carbon nanotubes(CNT)with temperature gradients, specifically the effects of adding a static carbon hoop to the outside of a CNT on the transport of a nanomotor inside the CNT.We reveal that the underlying mechanism is the uneven potential energy created by the hoops,i.e.,the hoop outside the CNT forms potential energy barriers or wells that affect mass transport inside the CNT.This fundamental control of directional mass transportation may lead to promising routes for nanoscale actuation and energy conversion. 展开更多

Wayside monitoring is a promising cost-effective alternative to predict damage in the rolling stock. The main goal of this work is to present an unsupervised methodology to identify out-of-roundness(OOR) damage wheels, such as wheel flats and polygonal wheels. This automatic damage identification algorithm is based on the vertical acceleration evaluated on the rails using a virtual wayside monitoring system and involves the application of a two-step procedure. The first step aims to define a confidence boundary by using(healthy) measurements evaluated on the rail constituting a baseline. The second step of the procedure involves classifying damage of predefined scenarios with different levels of severities. The proposed procedure is based on a machine learning methodology and includes the following stages:(1) data collection,(2) damage-sensitive feature extraction from the acquired responses using a neural network model, i.e., the sparse autoencoder(SAE),(3) data fusion based on the Mahalanobis distance, and(4) unsupervised feature classification by implementing outlier and cluster analysis. This procedure considers baseline responses at different speeds and rail irregularities to train the SAE model. Then, the trained SAE is capable to reconstruct test responses(not trained) allowing to compute the accumulative difference between original and reconstructed signals. The results prove the efficiency of the proposed approach in identifying the two most common types of OOR in railway wheels. 展开更多

Carbon fiber composites, characterized by their high specific strength and low weight, are becoming increasingly crucial in automotive lightweighting. However, current research primarily emphasizes layer count and orientation, often neglecting the potential of microstructural design, constraints in the layup process, and performance reliability. This study, therefore, introduces a multiscale reliability-based design optimization method for carbon fiber-reinforced plastic(CFRP)drive shafts.Initially, parametric modeling of the microscale cell was performed, and its elastic performance parameters were predicted using two homogenization methods, examining the impact of fluctuations in microscale cell parameters on composite material performance.A finite element model of the CFRP drive shaft was then constructed, achieving parameter transfer between microscale and macroscale through Python programming. This enabled an investigation into the influence of both micro and macro design parameters on the CFRP drive shaft’s performance. The Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO)algorithm was enhanced for particle generation and updating strategies, facilitating the resolution of multi-objective reliability optimization problems, including composite material layup process constraints.Case studies demonstrated that this approach leads to over 30%weight reduction in CFRP drive shafts compared to metallic counterparts while satisfying reliability requirements and offering insights for the lightweight design of other vehicle components. 展开更多

Purpose–This study aims to investigate the cause of high-order wheel polygonization in a plateau high-speed electric multiple unit(EMU)train.Design/methodology/approach–A series of field tests were conducted to measure the vibration accelerations of the axle box and bogie when the wheels of the EMU train passed through tracks with normal rail roughness after re-profiling.Additionally,the dynamic characteristics of the track, wheelset and bogie were also measured. These measurements provided insights into the mechanisms that lead to wheel polygonization.Findings–The results of the field tests indicate that wheel polygonal wear in theEMUtrain primarily exhibits 14–16 and 25–27 harmonic orders. The passing frequencies of wheel polygonization were approximately 283–323 Hz and 505–545 Hz,which closely match the dominated frequencies of axle box and bogie vibrations. These findings suggest that the fixed-frequency vibrations originate from the natural modes of the wheelset and bogie, which can be excited by wheel/rail irregularities.Originality/value–The study provides novel insights into the mechanisms of high-order wheel polygonization in plateau high-speed EMU trains.Futher, the results indicate that operating the EMU train on mixed lines at variable speeds could potentially mitigate high-order polygonal wear, providing practical value for improving the safety, performance and maintenance efficiency of high-speed EMU trains. 展开更多

The torque ripples resulting from external electromagnetic excitation and mechanical internal excitation contribute to significant torsional vibration issues within electromechanical coupling systems. To mitigate these fluctuations,a passive control strategy centered around a multi-stable nonlinear energy sink(MNES)is proposed.First, models for electromagnetic torque, gear nonlinear meshing torque, and misalignment torque are established.Building upon this foundation,an electromechanical coupling dynamic model of the electric drive system is formulated.Sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine the sensitive nodes of each mode and to provide guidance for the installation of the MNES.The structure of the MNES is introduced, and an electromechanical coupling dynamic model with the MNES is established.Based on this model, the influence of the misaligned angle on the electromechanical coupling characteristics is analyzed. In addition, the vibration suppression performance of the MNES is studied under both speed and uniform speed conditions. Finally, experimental testing is conducted to verify the vibration suppression performance of the MNES.The results indicate that misalignment triggers the emergence of its characteristic frequencies and associated sidebands.Meanwhile, the MNES effectively mitigates the torsional vibrations in the coupled system, demonstrating suppression rates of 52.69%in simulations and 63.3%in experiments. 展开更多

Spinal cord injury necessitates effective rehabilitation strategies, with exercise therapies showing promise in promoting recovery. This study investigated the impact of rehabilitation exercise on functional recovery and morphological changes following thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. After a 7-day recovery period after spinal cord injury, mice were assigned to either a trained group(10 weeks of voluntary running wheel or forced treadmill exercise) or an untrained group. Bi-weekly assessments revealed that the exercise-trained group, particularly the voluntary wheel exercise subgroup, displayed significantly improved locomotor recovery, more plasticity of dopaminergic and serotonin modulation compared with the untrained group. Additionally, exercise interventions led to gait pattern restoration and enhanced transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potentials. Despite consistent injury areas across groups, exercise training promoted terminal innervation of descending axons. In summary, voluntary wheel exercise shows promise for enhancing outcomes after thoracic contusive spinal cord injury, emphasizing the role of exercise modality in promoting recovery and morphological changes in spinal cord injuries. Our findings will influence future strategies for rehabilitation exercises, restoring functional movement after spinal cord injury. 展开更多

For electric vehicles (EVs),it is necessary to improve endurance mileage by improving the efficiency. There exists a trend towards increasing the system voltage and switching frequency, contributing to improve charging speed and power density. However, this trend poses significant challenges for high-voltage and high-frequency motor controllers, which are plagued by increased switching losses and pronounced switching oscillations as consequences of hard switching. The deployment of soft switching technology presents a viable solution to mitigate these issues. This paper reviews the applications of soft switching technologies for three-phase inverters and classifies them based on distinct characteristics. For each type of inverter, the advantages and disadvantages are evaluated. Then, the paper introduces the research progress and control methods of soft switching inverters (SSIs).Moreover,it presents a comparative analysis among the conventional hard switching inverters (HSIs),an active clamping resonant DC link inverter (ACRDCLI) and an auxiliary resonant commuted pole inverter (ARCPI).Finally, the problems and prospects of soft switching technology applied to motor controllers for EVs are put forward. 展开更多

The dynamic load distribution within in-service axlebox bearings of high-speed trains is crucial for the fatigue reliability assessment and forward design of axlebox bearings. This paper presents an in situ measurement of the dynamic load distribution in the four rows of two axlebox bearings on a bogie wheelset of a high-speed train under polygonal wheel–rail excitation. The measurement employed an improved strain-based method to measure the dynamic radial load distribution of roller bearings. The four rows of two axlebox bearings on a wheelset exhibited different ranges of loaded zones and different means of distributed loads. Besides, the mean value and standard deviation of measured roller–raceway contact loads showed non-monotonic variations with the frequency of wheel–rail excitation. The fatigue life of the four bearing rows under polygonal wheel–rail excitation was quantitatively predicted by compiling the measured roller–raceway contact load spectra of the most loaded position and considering the load spectra as input. 展开更多
