Nowadays,orthodontic treatment has become increasingly popular.However,the biological mechanisms of orthodontic tooth movement(OTM)have not been fully elucidated.We were aiming to summarize the evidences regarding the...Nowadays,orthodontic treatment has become increasingly popular.However,the biological mechanisms of orthodontic tooth movement(OTM)have not been fully elucidated.We were aiming to summarize the evidences regarding the mechanisms of OTM.Firstly,we introduced the research models as a basis for further discussion of mechanisms.Secondly,we proposed a new hypothesis regarding the primary roles of periodontal ligament cells(PDLCs)and osteocytes involved in OTM mechanisms and summarized the biomechanical and biological responses of the periodontium in OTM through four steps,basically in OTM temporal sequences,as follows:(1)Extracellular mechanobiology of periodontium:biological,mechanical,and material changes of acellular components in periodontium under orthodontic forces were introduced.(2)Cell strain:the sensing,transduction,and regulation of mechanical stimuli in PDLCs and osteocytes.(3)Cell activation and differentiation:the activation and differentiation mechanisms of osteoblast and osteoclast,the force-induced sterile inflammation,and the communication networks consisting of sensors and effectors.(4)Tissue remodeling:the remodeling of bone and periodontal ligament(PDL)in the compression side and tension side responding to mechanical stimuli and root resorption.Lastly,we talked about the clinical implications of the updated OTM mechanisms,regarding optimal orthodontic force(OOF),acceleration of OTM,and prevention of root resorption.展开更多

Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and periodontitis are chronic inflammatory diseases leading to increased bone resorption.Preventing this inflammatory bone resorption is a major health challenge.Both diseases share immunopatho...Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)and periodontitis are chronic inflammatory diseases leading to increased bone resorption.Preventing this inflammatory bone resorption is a major health challenge.Both diseases share immunopathogenic similarities and a common inflammatory environment.The autoimmune response or periodontal infection stimulates certain immune actors,leading in both cases to chronic inflammation that perpetuates bone resorption.Moreover,RA and periodontitis have a strong epidemiological association that could be explained by periodontal microbial dysbiosis.This dysbiosis is believed to be involved in the initiation of RA via three mechanisms.(i)The dissemination of periodontal pathogens triggers systemic inflammation.(ii)Periodontal pathogens can induce the generation of citrullinated neoepitopes,leading to the generation of anti-citrullinated peptide autoantibodies.(iii)Intracellular danger-associated molecular patterns accelerate local and systemic inflammation.Therefore,periodontal dysbiosis could promote or sustain bone resorption in distant inflamed joints.Interestingly,in inflammatory conditions,the existence of osteoclasts distinct from“classical osteoclasts”has recently been reported.They have proinflammatory origins and functions.Several populations of osteoclast precursors have been described in RA,such as classical monocytes,a dendritic cell subtype,and arthritis-associated osteoclastogenic macrophages.The aim of this review is to synthesize knowledge on osteoclasts and their precursors in inflammatory conditions,especially in RA and periodontitis.Special attention will be given to recent data related to RA that could be of potential value in periodontitis due to the immunopathogenic similarities between the two diseases.Improving our understanding of these pathogenic mechanisms should lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets involved in the pathological inflammatory bone resorption associated with these diseases.展开更多
Driven by a new round of technological and industrial revolution,China’s manufacturing industry is heading towards green,intelligent,service-based and customized development.In light of the new technological revoluti...Driven by a new round of technological and industrial revolution,China’s manufacturing industry is heading towards green,intelligent,service-based and customized development.In light of the new technological revolution and evolving industrial development model,we need to revise and breathe new life into the traditional industrialization theory.When assessing a country’s industrial development,we should use the level of industrial technology,instead of the proportion of primary,secondary and tertiary industries,as the key criterion.In addition,the level of modern industrial development should be determined according to the degree of digital,network-based,and smart features.The new industrialization theory should employ knowledge-intensive complex labor to replace simple labor as the labor factor input in the production function,and include data as a new factor of production in the analytical framework.We should also define natural resources and the environment and greenhouse gas emissions as hard constraints of the production function.In the comparison of smart,service-based and green development levels of China’s,the US’and Japan’s manufacturing sectors,our results suggest that China lags far behind developed countries in terms of the level of industrial development.During the 14th Five-Year Plan period,China’s manufacturing industry should shift from quantitative expansion to digital and smart innovations and applications,modernize the industrial system,promote industrial integration,and broaden its horizon from domestic regional planning to the global value chain.展开更多
