A network or a partnership is identified as a "structural" form of social capital and a tool to empower participants in the networks. There is a belief that social networks can be initiated or created at every level of social capital, from micro to macro. However, the concept of community is the key component of social capital, creating both physical ties (geographical locality) and normative behaviours (sense of belonging). Therefore, this study is intended to enhance social capital at the community or micro-level, in order to sustain tourism development in those areas, and networking is initiated to enhance social capital. Participatory Action Research (PAR) was applied to tourism development in Kon Kaen Province. Tools and techniques used during this study included: observations, preliminary meetings, community meetings, tourism audits, workshops, and network meetings. Eleven districts in Khon Kaen were actively involved in the planning process.展开更多

Zakat management conducted by an organization with a set of norms promotes the development of local community organizations' function for the rural economic development activities. A case study was conducted in the Village of Patila, South Sulawesi Province. The community in this village successfully managed the selfsupporting development of social and agriculture infrastructures. Data collected were the activities of local organization of the board members of the mosque and educational development foundations, farmer group, and collective stall group. The results showed that a community truth on the mosque and educational development foundations was formed by the social infrastructure development of mosque and schools through the effectiveness of the zakat payment by rules (norms). Both development foundations could function well through the network with villagers who migrate to other island as a potential zakat payer. Strengthening the social development organization supported the development of collective stall and pump farming system. The process of social and economic development in the Village of Patila as well as social capital formation encouraged people to carry out selfsupport development activities.展开更多

A case study in Tengchong County (western Yunnan, China) shows that transformation of traditional alder (Alnus nepalensis) and dry rice (upland rice) rotational farming to introduced Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook.) plantations leads to localised water scarcity and soil fertility decline. While farmers are aware of ecological sustainability of traditional farming, they prefer Chinese fir forestry because it is less labour-intensive, has a high market value, and releases time for profitable off-farm work. Farmers adapt to economic liberalization by planting high value crops and trees. However, alternatives to make local agricultural production more profitable through competitive business strategies, cooperative approaches, innovations in integrating high value crops and 'downstream' processingfor sustainable rural livelihoods have been overlooked largely due to poor information availability and lack of organisational framework.展开更多

In the world, more than 50% of poverty is located in rural areas and the most incidence of it is in Sub-Saharan African countries; in Latin American nations, instead, the most percentage of poverty is located in urban areas. The aim of this research was to estimate, by a multiple regression model, in 46 countries of Africa and in 23 nations of Souther-Central America, which socio-economic variables were able to play a fundamental role on the rural population and on the development of rural areas in 2000 and 2010 using some statistical data published in the FAO Statistic book. In analysed African countries there has been an increase of people living in the rural space and a growth by 21% of agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In Southern and Central American nations, there has been a meaningful emigration from rural territories due to an expansion of commercial flows and per capita income in rich areas, thus people have decided to move from the rural territories to the urban territories, worsening the poverty and living conditions in the countryside.展开更多

Nowadays, with Taiwan and China following different development paths, foreign direct investment (FDI) and capital accumulation playing being the core aspect of these paths. With the enhancement of national work division, FDI becomes the critical force to implement economic globalization and economic development in different countries. Since the implementation of economic reform and liberation, the influence of foreign capital and technologies on economy in China becomes an important issue. According to the economic figures of the provinces (cities) in China from 1998 to 2012, this study constructs an open inner growth model. Infra-structure affects FDI in both direct and indirect ways. If the construction is more perfect to ensure that the production and transport of a large number of products, Enhance more consumption and market demand; on the other hand, manufacturers and thus increase production, these two aspects can attract more FDI. Research findings show that human capital, research and development (R & D) investment and capital in China have grown and significantly contributed to economic development.展开更多

Eleven districts in Khon Kaen were actively involved in the planning process.
文摘Zakat as a source of development funding encourages well functioning of local organizations and social capital formation. The process of social and economic development in the Village of Patila as well as social capital formation encouraged people to carry out selfsupport development activities.
文摘The Capital Iron and Steel Corporation (Shou Gang) is one of the eight major iron and steel companies in China and one of the first state-owned enterprises to be selected as a testing ground for the reform programme, since it was authorized to manage its own foreign trade in 1981, the Corporation’s export trade has expanded steadily. Especially since 1992, its development in foreign trade has skyrocketed because China Shou Gang International Trade Construction Company was approved to be set up. In 1993, it exported 239,700 tons of steel. Its foreign exchange income reached US$630 million, of which the Shou Gang’s self-managed exports took up US$96.98 million. During the
文摘Traditional farming practices conform to sustainable rural livelihoods, while agricultural modernisation tends to undermine these practices through various perturbations. However, alternatives to make local agricultural production more profitable through competitive business strategies, cooperative approaches, innovations in integrating high value crops and 'downstream' processingfor sustainable rural livelihoods have been overlooked largely due to poor information availability and lack of organisational framework.

文摘In developing countries, the emigration from rural territories to urban areas has brought about some negative impacts strictly associated to a lack of services a drop of ecological sustainability and environment protection with the consequence to worsen the marginalization of these territories. In Southern and Central American nations, there has been a meaningful emigration from rural territories due to an expansion of commercial flows and per capita income in rich areas, thus people have decided to move from the rural territories to the urban territories, worsening the poverty and living conditions in the countryside.
文摘In 1978, China under Deng Xiaoping’s reform and open-door policy, China’s gradual establishment of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) are dominant and diverse forms of ownership developing economic system in China. Research findings show that human capital, research and development (R & D) investment and capital in China have grown and significantly contributed to economic development.
