The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive literature review on the development towards THz communications and presents some key technologies faced in THz wireless communication systems. Firstly, despite the substantial hardware problems that have to be developed in terms of the THz solid state superheterodyne receiver, high speed THz modulators and THz antennas, the practical THz channel model and the efficient THz beamforming are also described to compensate for the severe path attenuation. Moreover, two different kinds of lab-level THz communication systems are introduced minutely, named a solid state THz communication system and a spatial direct modulation THz communication system, respectively. The solid state THz system converts intermediate frequency(IF) modulated signal to THz frequency while the direct modulation THz system allows the high power THz sources to input for approving the relatively long distance communications. Finally, we discuss several potential application scenarios as well as some vital technical challenges that will be encountered in the future THz communications.展开更多

Meanwhile, the application of AI in all walks of life puts forward requirements for new capabilities of the future network, such as distributed training, real-time collaborative inference, local data processing, etc., which require "native intelligence design" in future networks. This paper discusses the requirements of native intelligence in the 6 th generation mobile communication system(6 G) networks from the perspectives of 5 G intelligent network challenges and the "ubiquitous intelligence" vision of 6 G, and analyzes the technical challenges of the AI workflows in its lifecycle and the AI as a service(AIaaS) in cloud network. The progress and deficiencies of the current research on AI functional architecture in various industry organizations are summarized. The end-to-end functional architecture for native AI for 6 G network and its three key technical characteristics are proposed: quality of AI services(QoAIS) based AI service orchestration for its full lifecycle, deep integration of native AI computing and communication, and integration of native AI and digital twin network. The directions of future research are also prospected.展开更多

文摘With the exponential growth of the data traffic in wireless communication systems, terahertz(THz) frequency band is envisioned as a promising candidate to support ultra-broadband for future beyond fifth generation(5G), bridging the gap between millimeter wave(mmWave) and optical frequency ranges. Finally, we discuss several potential application scenarios as well as some vital technical challenges that will be encountered in the future THz communications.

文摘NaGlobal vigation Satellite System(GNSS)positioning technology is widely used for its high precision, global, and all-weather service. However,in complex environments such as urban canyons,GNSS performance is often degraded due to signal occlusion and even fails to achieve positioning due to the insufficient visible satellites.Because of the characteristics of large band-width,low latency, and high Base Station(BS)density, the fifth-Generation mobile communication(5G)technology has gradually become a trend for positioning in cities while offering traditional communication service. To supply the communication demands of the User Equipment(UE),only one BS is usually considered to establish a connection with the UE during the BS construction. However, the positioning accuracy with a single BS in urban canyons will be significantly reduced. To further improve the positioning accuracy in such extreme scenarios, this paper proposes a simplified 5G/GNSS fusion positioning system architecture using observations from only a 5G BS and a GNSS satellite. In this system, the GNSS receiver is mounted on the 5G BS,and the measurements provided by the receiver are used to form the differential code and complete the position estimation. The positioning mathematical models of the system based on the original code and differential code are derived. Then, the impacts of the measurements noise and the time synchronization error on the positioning accuracy are analyzed theoretically. Finally, the positioning performance is investigated by a set of simulation experiments.Numerical results show that under the existing 5G measurement noise and 2 m’s code measurement noise, the improvement of the differential code based fusion positioning compared with the 5G-only positioning is more than 32%,which is also about 6%higher than the original code based fusion positioning.Besides, this improvement is not affected by the time synchronization error between the BS and the GNSS satellite.

文摘The application of the artificial intelligence(AI) technology in the 5 th generation mobile communication system(5 G) networks promotes the development of the mobile communication network and its application in vertical industries, however, the application models of "patching" and "plug-in" have hindered the effect of AI applications. The directions of future research are also prospected.

文摘A dual-polarized multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)antenna is proposed for 5G base stations. Each antenna element consists of two orthogonally placed fan-shaped dipole elements and45°dual-polarized feed-ing structures are used to achieve broadband operation. The resonant frequency of the array element is from 3.3 to 4.2 GHz,which covers the mainstream spectrum allocations of 5G mobile networks.H-shaped coupling elements are used to improve the isolation between the neighboring antenna elements and the mutual coupling is reduced by over 4 dB.The envelope correlation of a 2×2 array is provided for verification.
文摘The fifth generation(5G)of wireless networks features three core use cases, namely ultra-reliable and low latency communications(URLLC),massive machine type communications(mMTC),and enhanced mobile broadband(eMBB).These use cases co-exist in many practical scenarios and compete for the same set of time and frequency resources, resulting in a natural trade-off in their performance. In this paper,a network supporting both URLLC and eMBB modes of operation is studied. To guarantee the ultra low latency requirement of URLLC,a dynamic resource allocation scheme indicated by a two-dimensional bitmap is proposed. This approach is capable to achieve finer granularity as well as lower false cancellation rate compared to the state-of-the-art methods.A novel power control and indication method is also proposed to dynamically provide different power control parameters to the user equipment(UE),while guaranteeing the reliability requirement of URLLC and minimizing the impact to eMBB.In addition,we devise a dynamic selection mechanism(DSM)to accommodate diverse scenarios, which is empowered with load prediction to become more intelligent. Our extensive system-level simulation results for eMBB-URLLC co-existence scenarios showcase that the perceived throughput of eMBB UEs is increased by 45.3%,while about 13.3% more UEs are enjoying URLLC services with at most 84% transmit power savings compared to the state-of-the-art methods.
文摘It has been an exciting journey since the mobile communications and artificial intelligence(AI)were conceived in 1983 and 1956.While both fields evolved independently and profoundly changed communications and computing industries, the rapid convergence of 5th generation mobile communication technology(5G)and AI is beginning to significantly transform the core communication infrastructure, network management, and vertical applications. The paper first outlined the individual roadmaps of mobile communications and AI in the early stage, with a concentration to review the era from 3rd generation mobile communication technology(3G)to 5G when AI and mobile communications started to converge. With regard to telecommunications AI,the progress of AI in the ecosystem of mobile communications was further introduced in detail, including network infrastructure, network operation and management, business operation and management, intelligent applications towards business supporting system(BSS)&operation supporting system(OSS)convergence, verticals and private networks, etc. Then the classifications of AI in telecommunication ecosystems were summarized along with its evolution paths specified by various international telecommunications standardization organizations.Towards the next decade, the prospective roadmap of telecommunications AI was forecasted. In line with 3rd generation partnership project(3GPP)and International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector(ITU-R)timeline of 5G&6th generation mobile communication technology(6G),the network intelligence following 3GPP and open radio access network(O-RAN)routes,experience and intent-based network management and operation, network AI signaling system, intelligent middle-office based BSS,intelligent customer experience management and policy control driven by BSS&OSS convergence, evolution from service level agreement(SLA)to experience level agreement(ELA),and intelligent private network for verticals were further explored. The paper is concluded with the vision that AI will reshape the future beyond 5G(B5G)/6G landscape, and we need pivot our research and development(R&D),standardizations, and ecosystem to fully take the unprecedented opportunities.

文摘Abstract:Ubiquitous broadband Internet access is one of the major goals of the next generation of wireless communications. However, there are still some locations where this is diffcult to achieve. This is the case on moving vehicles and, particularly,on trains.Among the possible solutions to this problem,RoF(Radio-over-Fiber)architectures have been proposed as low-latency,cost-e ective candidates. Two elements are introduced to extend the RoF approach.First, the carrier frequency is raised into the W-band(75-110 GHz)to increase the available capacity.Second,a mechanical beam-steering solution based on a Stewart platform is adopted for the transmitter antenna to allow it to follow a moving receiver along a known path, thereby enhancing the coverage area. The performance of a system transmitting a 2.5 Gbit/s non-return-to-zero signal generated by photonic up-conversion over a wireless link is evaluated in terms of real-time BER(Bit Error Rate)measurements. The receiver is situated in di erent positions, and the orientation of the transmitter is changed accordingly.Values below the forward error correction limit for 7%overhead are obtained over a range of 60 cm around a center point situated 2 m away from the transmitter.
