The main aim of this paper is to study the convergence properties of a low order mixed finite element for the Stokes problem under anisotropic meshes. We discuss the anisotropic convergence and superconvergence independent of the aspect ratio. Without the shape regularity assumption and inverse assumption on the meshes, the optimal error estimates and natural superconvergence at central points are obtained. The global superconvergence for the gradient of the velocity and the pressure is derived with the aid of a suitable postprocessing method. Furthermore, we develop a simple method to obtain the superclose properties which improves the results of the previous works . 展开更多

A proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is applied to a usual finite element (FE) formulation for parabolic equations so that it is reduced into a POD FE formulation with lower dimensions and enough high accuracy. The errors between the reduced POD FE solution and the usual FE solution are analyzed. It is shown by numerical examples that the results of numerical computations are consistent with theoretical conclusions. Ensembles of data are compiled from t... The proper orthogonal decomposition(POD)and the singular value decomposition(SVD) are used to study the finite difference scheme(FDS)for the nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations. Ensembles of data are compiled from the transient solutions computed from the discrete equation system derived from the FDS for the nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations.The optimal orthogonal bases are reconstructed by the elements of the ensemble with POD and SVD.Combining the above procedures with a Galerkin projection approach yields a new optimizing FDS model with lower dimensions and a high accuracy for the nonstationary Navier-Stokes equations.The errors between POD approximate solutions and FDS solutions are analyzed.It is shown by considering the results obtained for numerical simulations of cavity flows that the error between POD approximate solution and FDS solution is consistent with theoretical results.Moreover,it is also shown that this validates the feasibility and efficiency of POD method. 展开更多

This paper discusses the order-preserving convergence for spectral approximation of the self-adjoint completely continuous operator T.Under the condition that the approximate operator Th converges to T in norm,it is proven that the k-th eigenvalue of Th converges to the k-th eigenvalue of T.(We sorted the positive eigenvalues in decreasing order and negative eigenvalues in increasing order.) Then we apply this result to conforming elements,nonconforming elements and mixed elements of self-adjoint elliptic differential operators eigenvalue problems,and prove that the k-th approximate eigenvalue obtained by these methods converges to the k-th exact eigenvalue. 展开更多

It is assumed that the nonlinearity is non-convex and its solution is isolated, under some conditions the corresponding linearized problem has a unique solution. By use of the compactness of the solution family and the contradiction argument, in general conditions, the high order regularity of the solution u∈H<sup>1+α</sup>,α】0 is proved. Assume that some initial value searched by suitably many eigenbases is already fallen into the neighborhood of the isolated solution, then the optimal error estimates of its nonlinear finite element approximation are shown by the duality argument and continuation method. 展开更多

Some results are as follows: 1) Rayleigh quotient accelerate technique is extended to nonselfadjoint problems. Generalized Rayleigh quotients of operator form and weak form are defined and the basic relationship between approximate eigenfunction and its generalized Rayleigh quotient is established. 2) New error estimates are obtained by replacing the ascent of exact eigenvalue with the ascent of finite element approximate eigenvalue. 3) Based on the work of Xu Jinchao and Zhou Aihui, finite element two-grid discretization schemes are established to solve nonselfadjoint elliptic differential operator eigenvalue problems and these schemes are used in both conforming finite element and non-conforming finite element. Besides, the efficiency of the schemes is proved by both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments. 4) Iterated Galerkin method, interpolated correction method and gradient recovery for selfadjoint elliptic differential operator eigenvalue problems are extended to nonselfadjoint elliptic differential operator eigenvalue problems. 展开更多

This paper generalizes two nonconforming rectangular elements of the Reissner-Mindlin plate to the quadrilateral mesh. The first quadrilateral element uses the usual conforming bilinear element to approximate both components of the rotation, and the modified nonconforming rotated Q1 element enriched with the intersected term on each element to approximate the displacement, whereas the second one uses the enriched modified nonconforming rotated Q1 element to approximate both the rotation and the displacement. Both elements employ a more complicated shear force space to overcome the shear force locking, which will be described in detail in the introduction. We prove that both methods converge at optimal rates uniformly in the plate thickness t and the mesh distortion parameter in both the H1-and the L2-norms, and consequently they are locking free. 展开更多
