Some scholars concerns about the conflicts between Marie and Lilla, but few of them studies the conflicts between femaleand male in the novel. In the novel, Marie's suffering is not only from the fraudulence of her sister, but also from the oppression ofmale by the perspective of feminism. In the family, it implies that she is oppressed by male, which can be understood from the differ-ence of their jobs and the traditional image of her mother, while in the society, she suffers a lot from Jansen, which can be seen fromthe descriptive perspective of appearance of Marie, the dialogue between waitress and Jansen, the dialogue between Marie and Jan-sen as well as Jansen's decision to the leaving of Marie. The double oppression of Marie's suffering both reflects the unequal posi-tion of male and female.By this analysis, it can impulse female to improve themselves and it also calls on female to get along wellwith male by the appropriate way. 展开更多

The post-earthquake emergency period, which is a sensitive time segment just after an event, mainly focuses on saving life and restoring social order. To improve the seismic resilience of city road networks,a resilience evaluation method used in the post-earthquake emergency period is proposed. The road seismic damage index of a city road network can consider the influence of roads, bridges and buildings along the roads, etc.on road capacity after an earthquake.A function index for a city road network is developed, which reflects the connectivity, redundancy, traffic demand and traffic function of the network. An optimization model for improving the road repair order in the post-earthquake emergency period is also developed according to the resilience evaluation,to enable decision support for city emergency management and achieve the best seismic resilience of the city road network. The optimization model is applied to a city road network and the results illustrate the feasibility of the resilience evaluation and optimization method for a city road network in the post-earthquake emergency period. 展开更多

Roads are crucial public spaces in cities and serve as a window to showcase the city’s characteristics. They serve not only as a means of urban transportation but also as a crucial spatial carrier for urban communication activities and a significant location for meeting the increasing demands of people for a better quality of life. The current road infrastructure prioritizes the right of way for cars, neglecting the design of sidewalks and green belts within the road’s boundaries, and extension spaces between buildings and boundary lines of roads. There is a pressing need to improve street space in response to the demand for development transformation and the creation of a warmer city. This paper summarizes common problems in current road spaces, draws on the experience of excellent urban road spaces in foreign countries, discusses new ideas for the refined design of road spaces based on the transformation of road planning concepts, and suggests a reference standard for guiding detailed design.Simultaneously, the review of road construction will incorporate the detailed design of road space to enhance the role of planning in guiding and controlling the construction of road works. 展开更多

The increasing global population at a rapid pace makes road trafficdense;managing such massive traffic is challenging. In developing countrieslike Pakistan, road traffic accidents (RTA) have the highest mortality percentageamong other Asian countries. The main reasons for RTAs are roadcracks and potholes. Understanding the need for an automated system forthe detection of cracks and potholes, this study proposes a decision supportsystem (DSS) for an autonomous road information system for smart citydevelopment with the use of deep learning. The proposed DSS works in layerswhere initially the image of roads is captured and coordinates attached to theimage with the help of global positioning system (GPS), communicated tothe decision layer to find about the cracks and potholes in the roads, andeventually, that information is passed to the road management informationsystem, which gives information to drivers and the maintenance department. For the decision layer, we projected a CNN-based model for pothole crackdetection (PCD). Aimed at training, a K-fold cross-validation strategy wasused where the value of K was set to 10. The training of PCD was completedwith a self-collected dataset consisting of 6000 images from Pakistani roads. The proposed PCD achieved 98% of precision, 97% recall, and accuracy whiletesting on unseen images. The results produced by our model are higher thanthe existing model in terms of performance and computational cost, whichproves its significance. 展开更多

As one of the essential urban open spaces, lakes usually contribute immensely to the quality of residents′ daily lives. Different from hedonic approach employed in existing researches on urban open spaces in China, this paper integrates housing price surface with road density to analyze the spatial characteristics in proximity to urban lakes in Wuhan City, China. With the expansion of Wuhan City, urban lakes became polluted, they shrunk or even disappeared, leading to unfavorable conditions for sustainable development of the city. To better understand the spatial relationship between the city and lakes, we classify the urban lakes in Wuhan central area into ′lakes in the urban center′ and ′lakes in urban fringe′. Based on housing price surface we explore the spatial characteristics in proximity to different lakes and differences between the lakes. We also use Geographic Information System(GIS) tool to calculate road density as a supplementary indicator to reflect the accessibility in proximity to urban lakes. The results indicate that relative independence exists between different towns, and the spatial characteristics are different depending on scales and locations. In most of cases, the road density is lower where closer to the lakeshore while the housing price exhibits an opposite pattern. We conclude that city governments and urban planners should give more considerations to these spatial differences, somewhere should be better planned and protected as an important waterfront and somewhere the control of unreasonable real estate development nearby should be strengthened. 展开更多

The study of diplomacy against current situation and theoretical research of international relations, especially the study of traditional diplomatic theories, has been involved in a monotonous repetition and circulation. In the circulation, the diplomatic theories of politics are restricted to the area of inter-country diplomacy, which has prevented public diplomatic relations from further development.Though countries still play major roles in Eurasian continental diplomacy, city diplomacy between the Asian-European countries that just sets off inter-country diplomacy has yielded further advancement of public diplomacy, which will have a great significance for cultural exchange, economic development, social civilization, and political comprehension(the inclusiveness of political ideologies). Therefore, against the era of“The Belt and Road”in today’s China, the study of diplomacy based on cities can exert a positive effect on the ease of sovereignty dispute, adaptation of globalization, the alleviation of conflicts by means of cultural soft power, and even the integration of regions. 展开更多

The existing researches on the influence of information and communication technology (ICT) are mainly focused on human activity, whilst with few efforts on urban space. In the e-society, the widespread adoption of 1CT devices not only affects almost every aspect of people's daily life and thereby reshapes the spatial development of regions and cities, but also generates a large amount of real-time activity data with location information. These georeferenced data, however, have relatively recently attracted attention from geographers. Adapted from Lynch's framework based on people's perceptions, this paper proposes a framework of urban spatial struc- ture based on people's actual activity, including five elements, namely activity path, activity node, central activity zone (CAZ), activity district, and activity edge. In the empirical study, by using one week's check-in tweets (from February 25 to March 3 in 2013) collected in Nanjing City, the five elements are recognized and analyzed. Through the comparison between our results and urban spatial structure based on population (and land use), we argue that ICT uses: 1) lead to polarize, rather than to smooth, the urban structural hierarchy, due to the dual role of distance; 2) enable a partial decoupling of activity and activity space node, which challenges our conventional under- standing of the role of home and the utility of travel; 3) blur the boundaries of activity districts and hence may play a positive role in enriching districts' functions, which should not be overlooked in the current urban transformation in China. 展开更多

On analyzing the achievement of the goal in the modem urban road traffic development planning, the alternative of Strategic Environmental Assessment for urban traffic planning should include the basic scheme, the extended scheme and the environmental protection scheme. This study from different perspectives designed the alternatives for Changchun's county-level road and urban road system planning, and used the method of System Dynamics to simulate, optimize and analyze those alternatives. Thereafter, some methods including the correlation function method were used to comprehensively assess and rank those alternatives for recommending two best alternatives with the consideration to the indicators, such as the total emission amount of CO, the total emission amount of nitrogen oxides, the noise value, the road construction cost, the fossil oil consumption and the traffic capacity. The result showed that the study would provide substantial supports for decision-makers to make more scientific decisions and promote the sustainable urban traffic in Changchun City. 展开更多

Mobile networks possess significant information and thus are considered a gold mine for the researcher’s community. The call detail records(CDR)of a mobile network are used to identify the network’s efficacy and the mobile user’s behavior. It is evident from the recent literature that cyber-physical systems(CPS)were used in the analytics and modeling of telecom data.In addition,CPS is used to provide valuable services in smart cities. In general,a typical telecom company hasmillions of subscribers and thus generatesmassive amounts of data. From this aspect, data storage, analysis, and processing are the key concerns. To solve these issues, herein we propose a multilevel cyber-physical social system(CPSS)for the analysis and modeling of large internet data. Our proposed multilevel system has three levels and each level has a specific functionality.Initially, raw Call Detail Data(CDR)was collected at the first level.Herein, the data preprocessing, cleaning, and error removal operations were performed. In the second level, data processing, cleaning, reduction, integration, processing, and storage were performed.Herein, suggested internet activity record measures were applied. Our proposed system initially constructs a graph and then performs network analysis. Thus proposed CPSS system accurately identifies different areas of internet peak usage in a city(Milan city). Our research is helpful for the network operators to plan effective network configuration, management, and optimization of resources. 展开更多
