The discharge of acid mine drainage from abandoned high sulfur(S)coal mines has caused serious pollution in the Shandi River,Yangquan,Shanxi Province. To determine the impact of long-term acid mine drainage on the microorganisms in the river,we collected river sediments from a polluted tributary(Group P)and the mainstream of Shandi River(Group R)to study the bacterial diversity and community composition. The results showed that the tributary was seriously polluted by acid drainage from abandoned coal mines, with the pH value of the sediment being<2.5,resulting in the low bacterial richness and diversity of the tributary samples.Acidophillic Fe-and S-metabolizing bacteria, such as Metallibacterium,Acidiphilium, and Acidithiobacillus, were the dominant genera in Group P samples, while the Group R was dominated by the neutral anaerobic iron-reducing bacteria Geothrix and Geobacter. Results of principal co-ordinates analysis(PCoA)revealed that the bacterial communities are significantly different between groups P and R,and the significant different species were mainly attributed to phylum Proteobacteria,Actinobacteria, and Acidobacteria. The distribution of the microbial community is mainly influenced by pH,and the Fe and Cd concentrations.Metallicactrium, the dominant genus,is negatively correlated with pH(R^(2)=-0.95)and positively correlated with Fe(R^(2)=0.99),while Geothrix and Geobacter, are mainly affected by the heavy metals. This study determined the impact of river pollution caused by abandoned coal mine drainage, especially on the microbial diversity and community composition within the river sediment. 展开更多

With the increasingly prominent environmental problems of abandoned coal mines, this paper discussed the significance of environmental vulnerability assessment of abandoned coal mines.Environmental vulnerability assessment is essentially an assessment of environmental quality. At present, the research object of environmental impact assessment method and program of mine is mostly single factor. However, the impact of abandoned coal mine on the environment is multifaceted, which was summarized into nine prominent common problems.Based on these nine factors, the environmental vulnerability assessment model of abandoned coal mine based on multifactor evaluation was established by using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)method, the ranking criteria of nine factor indexes was proposed, the evaluation process was established, and the evaluation index system of environmental vulnerability of abandoned coal mines was established. The environmental vulnerability assessment method of abandoned coal mines has universal applicability, which can provide the basis for the government and enterprises to carry out treatment and planning of abandoned coal mine and promote the optimization of governance effect. 展开更多

The integration of solar and wind energy into the electrical grid has received global research attention due to their unpredictable characteristics.Because wind energy varies across all timescales of utility activity, renewable energy generation should be supplemented and enhanced, from real-time,minute-to-minute variations to annual alterations influencing long-termstrategy.Wind energy generation does not only fluctuate but is also challenging to accurately forecast the timeframes of significance to electricity decision makers;day-ahead and long-term making plans of framework sufficiency such as meeting the network peak load annually.A utility that integrates wind and solar energy into its electricity mix would understand how to adapt to uncertainty and variability in operations while sustaining grid stability.Due to hydropower’s adaptability,a system using hydropower as one of its generating resources could be precisely adapted to absorb the variability of wind and solar energy. The objective of this research study is to create a hybrid system comprising hydro-wind and solar(Hybrid-HWS)integration for power balancing in an isolated electrical network in Klipkop village,Pretoria region,South Africa. The desirability of designing and building goaf storage tank in regard to capability, the fullness of line throughoutwater pumping, dispensing, storage tank spillage, and pressure difference throughout liquid flow within the storage tanks were preliminary assessed using geotechnical and weather forecasting data from a distinctive area of Klipkop town in Pretoria,South Africa.Different facility hours premised on daylight accessibility are scheduled to balance maximum load at early and late hours. However,in the scenario of electrical power, time shift requiring storage for extended periods of time, such as in terms of hours,Hybrid-HWS has been found to have a crucial role. The results of simulations showed a coordinated process design for Hybrid-HWS Energy Storage(ES)to determine everyday strategic planning in reducing the variability of the system resulting from wind-solar-pumped hydro ES output inadequacies and satisfy daily load demands. It could be recommended that by considering the adaptability characteristics, extremely rapidly, ramping, peaking support and maximum stabilizing aid of the system could be archived with pump-hydro into the energy mix which can provide specific guidelines for energy policymakers. 展开更多

A Natural Ecological Wastewater Treatment System (NEWTS) is usually built on natural terrain with necessary topography modification to improve water flowing route and pattern, and then the topography modified NEWTS should also have a reasonable water storage volume and hydraulic retention time so as to achieve the anticipated water purification effect. In this study, the dynamic mesh technique based on the finite element method and element storativity coefficients was presented to develop a two-dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model, which was used to optimize the design of NEWTS under the dynamic land-water boundary due to various water storage volume. The models were employed in the optimized design of NEWTS from a large abandoned coal mine, which purifies the polluted water flowing into a large water storage lake, as part of the East Route South-to-North Water Transfer Project in China. Specifically, the natural topography modification scheme was presented, and further, a reasonable water storage volume and hydraulic residence time was obtained, based on the reasonable estimation of roughness coefficient and pollutant removal rate of the NEWTS with phragmites communis. 展开更多
