Recently, 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration （FDA） issued a draft guidance for the industry, titled ＂Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration＂. This is another document closely related to Chinese Medical Sciences following the issuance of the Guidance for Industry： Botanical Drug Products in June 2004. This document conforms to the dramatically increased practice of Complementary and Alternative Medicine （CAM） in the United States in recent years.

Over time, the world has transformed digitally and there is total dependence on the internet. Many more gadgets are continuously interconnected in the internet ecosystem. This fact has made the Internet a global information source for every being. Despite all this, attacker knowledge by cybercriminals has advanced and resulted in different attack methodologies on the internet and its data stores. This paper will discuss the origin and significance of Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS). These kinds of attacks remain the most effective methods used by the bad guys to cause substantial damage in terms of operational, reputational, and financial damage to organizations globally. These kinds of attacks have hindered network performance and availability. The victim’s network is flooded with massive illegal traffic hence, denying genuine traffic from passing through for authorized users. The paper will explore detection mechanisms, and mitigation techniques for this network threat.

Influence of psychosocial factors on treatment of elderly Chinese patients with hypertension

Objective The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of psychosocial factors on the treatment of elderly patients with hypertension. Methods Atotalof 260 elderly Chinese patients with hypertension were treated with benazepril alone or benazepril combined with amlodipine for 8 weeks. The target blood pressure (BP) (both <140 mmHg systolic, SBP, and <90 mmHg diastolic, DBP) was achieved in 180 patients, who were then assigned to the well-controlled BP group;the rest were placed in the modestly controlled BP group. The psychosocial factors present in both groups were assessed by the Hamilton depression scale, Hamilton anxiety scale, life event scale and social support evaluation list before and after anti-hypertensive treatment. Results There were no significant differences in gender, mean age, hist ory of hypertension, education and smoking habit, or in SBP and DBP between the groups before treatment. Significant differences were also not found in all psychosocial factors before and after treatment in the patients. However, significant differences were found between the groups with respect to post-treatment SBP and marital status. The patients with modestly controlled BP had significantly higher scores, as well as incidents, on the depressive, anxiety, and stressful life event scales than those with well-controlled BP. The patients with well-controlled BP had significantly higher scores in tangible support, subjective support, and social support compared to the patients with modestly controlled BP. Logistic regression analysis showed the independent contribution of psychosocial factors in reaching the goal of lowering BP at treatment endpoint in these hypertensive patients. Conclusions The results suggest that psychosocial factors stand as a main barrier to achieving the BP-lowering target in the management of elderly Chinese patients with hypertension.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2007;4:202-207.)

Acknowledgment of Libraries in the Journal Literature: An Exploratory Study

Purpose: This study examines acknowledgments to libraries in the journal literature, as well as the efficacy of using Web of Science(WoS) to locate general acknowledgment text.Design/methodology/approach: This mixed-methods approach quantifies and characterizes acknowledgments to libraries in the journal literature. Using WoS's Funding Text field, the acknowledgments for six peer universities were identified and then characterized. The efficacy of using WoS to locate library acknowledgments was assessed by comparing the WoS Funding Text search results to the actual acknowledgment text found in the articles.Findings: Acknowledgments to libraries were found in articles at all six peer universities, though the absolute and relative numbers were quite low(< 0.5%). Most of the library acknowledgments were for resources(collections, funding, etc.), and many were concentrated in natural history(e.g. zoology). Examination of Texas A&M University zoology articles found that 91.7% of the funding information came from "acknowledgments" and not specifically a funding acknowledgment section. The WoS Funding Text search found 56% of the library acknowledgments compared to a search of the actual acknowledgment text in the articles.Research limitations: Limiting publications to journals, using a single truncated search term, and including only six research universities in the United States.Practical implications: This study examined library acknowledgments, but the same approach could be applied to searches of other keywords, institutions/organizations, individuals, etc. While not specifically designed to search general acknowledgments, WoS's Funding Text field can be used as an exploratory tool to search acknowledgments beyond funding. Originality/value: There are a few studies that have examined library acknowledgments in the scholarly literature, though to date none of those studies have examined the efficacy of using the WoS Funding Text field to locate those library acknowledgments within the journal literature.

Enhancing Interest Forwarding for Fast Recovery from Unanticipated Data Access Failure in NDN

We show that an aggregated Interest in Named Data Networking (NDN) may fail to retrieve desired data since the Interest previously sent upstream for the same content is judged as a duplicate one and then dropped by an upstream node due to its multipath forwarding. Furthermore, we propose NDRUDAF, a NACK based mechanism that enhances the Interest forwarding and enables Detection and fast Recovery from such Unanticipated Data Access Failure. In the NDN enhanced with NDRUDAF, the router that aggregates the Interest detects such unanticipated data access failure based on a negative acknowledgement from the upstream node that judges the Interest as a duplicate one. Then the router retransmits the Interest as soon as possible on behalf of the requester whose Interest is aggregated to fast recover from the data access failure. We qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the performance of the NDN enhanced with our proposed NDRUDAF and compare it with that of the present NDN. Our experimental results validate that NDRUDAF improves the system performance in case of such unanticipated data access failure in terms of data access delay and network resource utilization efficiency at routers.

Research on Key Technologies of Electronic Shelf Labels Based on LoRa

The demand for Electronic Shelf Labels(ESL),according to the Internet of Things(IoT)paradigm,is expected to grow considerably in the immediate future.Various wireless communication standards are currently contending to gain an edge over the competition and provide the massive connectivity that will be required by a world in which everyday objects are expected to communicate with each other.Low-Power Wide-Area Networks(LPWANs)are continuously gaining momentum among these standards,mainly thanks to their ability to provide long-range coverage to devices,exploiting license-free frequency bands.The main theme of this work is one of the most prominent LPWAN technologies,LoRa.The purpose of this research is to provide long-range,less intermediate node,less energy dissipation,and a cheaper ESL system.Much research has already been done on designing the LoRaWAN network,not capable to make a reliable network.LoRa is using different gateways to transmit the same data,collision,data jamming,and data repetition are expected.According to the transmission behavior of LoRa,50%of data is lost.In this paper,the Improved Backoff Algorithm with synchronization technique is used to decrease overlapping and data loss.Besides,the improved Adaptive Data Rate algorithm(ADR)avoids the collision in concurrently transmitted data by using different Spreading Factors(SFs).The allocation of SF has the main role in designing LoRa based network to minimize the impact of the intra-interference,cost function,and Euclidean distance.For this purpose,the K-means machine learning algorithm is used for clustering.The data rate model is using an intra-slicing technique based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation(MLE).The data rate model includes three critical communication slices,High Critical Communication(HCC),Medium Critical Communication(MCC),and Low Critical Communication(LCC),having the specified number of End devices(EDs),payload budget delay,and data rate.Finally,different combinations of gateways are used to build ESL for 200 electronic shelf labels.

Chinese Students' Learning Styles & Strategies in the IELTS“Speaking& Writing”Preparation

The IELTS(International English Language Testing System)exam has enjoyed its popularity in China for over 30years;still the number of the Chinese candidates is increasing.Undoubtedly,the stability and the scientificity of this testing system are acknowledged internationally.When it comes to sitting for the IELTS exam,however,the Chinese students often find it very difficult to achieve a band 7 in speaking and writing.The question is,however,why is getting a band 7 such a painful journey for many Chinese IELTS candidates?This report will explore some of the underlying causes and propose possible solutions.Most importantly,the author will share some of his own teaching experience in the preparation of speaking and writing sections for Chinese IELTS candidates in terms of their learning styles and strategies in the IELTS study.
