A rectangular enclosure involving two simply supported flexible plates is created for this investigation. The characteristics of the primary and secondary sound field and the structural-acoustic coupled system are analyzed, and the optimal control objective for reducing the sound pressure level (SPL) in the cavity is derived. The response of the SPL in the cavity is analyzed and compared when the secondary point force actuators with different locations and parameters are applied to the two flexible plates. The results indicate that the noise in the cavity can be better controlled when some point force actuators are applied to two flexible plates for cooperative control rather than the point force actuators being only applied to the excited flexible plate.展开更多

This paper presents the results of active damping realized by a piezoelectric active member to control the vibration of a four-bay four-longern aluminum truss structure with cantilever boundary. The active member, which utilizes a piezoelectric actuating unit and an integrated load cell, is designed for vibration control of the space truss structures. Active damping control is realized using direct velocity feedback around the active member. The placement of the active member as one of the most important factor of affecting the control system performance, is also investigated by modal dissipation energy ratio as indicator. The active damping effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the closed-loop response with the open loop response.展开更多

An off-and-towardsequilibrium (OTE) strategy combined with fuzzy control is presented in this paper to overcome these difficulties. According to the OTE strategy, the control force is designed from the viewpoint of a mechanical relationship between the motions of the structure, the exciting force and the control force. The advantage of the OTE strategy is that it can be used for a variety of control systems. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed strategy, the seismic performance of a three-story shear building with an Active Tendon System (ATS) using a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is studied. The main advantage of the fuzzy controller is its inherent robustness and ability to handle any nonlinear behavior of structures. However, there are no design guidelines to set up the corresponding control rule table for a FLC. Based on the proposed strategy for the FLC, a control rule table associated with the building under study is developed, which then allows formation of a detailed algorithm. The results obtained in this study show that the proposed strategy performs slightly better than the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) strategy, while possessing several advantages over the LQR controller. Consequently, the feasibility and validity of the proposed strategy are verified.展开更多

Vibration and noise suppression smart structure is an important branch of SMS. There are several typical structures such as the cabin of an airplane, space station, the solar board of satellite and the rotor blade of a helicopter, of which the vibrations and radiation noises have bad influences on precise equipments and aiming systems. In order to suppress vibrations and noises of these structures, several algorithms are applied to the models which simulate the structures. Experiments are performed to suppress vibrations and noises by bonding sensors and actuators to the structures at the optimized locations and using computer based measurement and control systems. For the blade vibration control of a helicopter, a non contact method of signal transmission by magneto electric coupling is discussed. The response of the coupled enclosure is derived in terms of radiation modes. The potential energy in the enclosure can be decomposed into independent parts and the radiation modes contribute to potential energy independently. The control strategy for minimizing first G radiation modes with large radiation efficiency is proposed, and the optimal model of control forces is presented. Finally, a numerical simulation for minimizing sound transmission into a rectangular enclosure using the proposed method is conducted. Simulation results indicate that one control force can control one radiation mode and controlling the first four-order radiation modes with four control forces can achieve significant potential energy reduction at the low frequency range.展开更多

Previous Individual Blade Control (IBC) techniques to reduce these effects have been hindered by electromechanical limitations of piezoelectric actuators. The Smart Spring is an active tunable vibration absorber using IBC approach to adaptively alter the 'structural impedance' at the blade root. In this paper, a mathematical model was developed to predict the response under harmonic excitations. An adaptive notch algorithm was designed and implemented on a TMS320c40 DSP platform. Reference signal synthesis techniques were used to automatically track the shifts in the fundamental vibratory frequency due to variations in flight conditions. Closed-loop tests performed on the proof-of-concept hardware achieved significant vibration suppression at harmonic peaks as well as the broadband reduction in vibration. The investigation verified the capability of the Smart Spring to suppress multiple harmonic components in blade vibration through active impedance control.展开更多

Piezoelectric-based synthetic jet actuators were embedded inside the blade and activated with a synthetic jet momentum coefficient, Cμ of 2.30 × 10-3. Structural vibration was quantified for a range of unsteady angles undergoing “pitch up and down” and “sinusoidal pitch” maneuvers at a Reynolds number of 5.28 × 104. The blade tip deflection amplitude and frequency were acquired utilizing a pair of strain gauges mounted at the root of the model. Using active flow control vibration reduction was more effective during the pitch up portion of the blade motion cycle compared to the pitch down portion. This effect is due to dynamic stall, where a leading edge vortex is shed during the pitch up motion and contributes to higher lift compared to static angles of attack and lower lift when the blade is pitched down. Dynamic stall was measured with phase-locked stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV), where global mean flow measurements reveal a shift in location and reduction in the size of a recirculating flow structure near the suction surface of the blade during the pitch up motion compared to the pitch down.展开更多

文摘The CBCM (Controlled Behaviour Composite Material) is a thermal active composite, which has been developed for morphing applications. The thermal activation is made by a source of heating generated within the composite structure. The coupling between the induced thermal field and the thermomechanical properties of the various components of the composite structure leads to the change of the structure shape. The heat source is generated by Joule effect, Carbon yarns inserted in the composite, are connected to a power supply. The application field of CBCM technology is the domain of shape modification and active assembly. The objective of this work is to illustrate the capabilities of CBCM in the domain of vibration control. We will study several reference plates with different constitution. The influences of these different constitutions, of the CBCM effect and the loss of stiffness for the matrix will be highlighted, for two boundary conditions, free/free and embedded/embedded.
