Treatment of Functional Retrograde Ejaculation with Acupuncture and TCM Herbal Drugs

Acupuncture at the Taichong (LR 3), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Ciliao (BL 32) points combined with TCM drugs for soothing the liver, replenishing the kidney, freeing the seminal passage, and eliminating the stasis showed effective for functional retrograde ejaculation in 25 cases. The total effective rate of 68.0% was significantly better than imipramine used in the control group (P<0.05).

CLINICAL OBSERVATION ON 40 CASES OF ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS TREATED WITH ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE DRUGS

Objective： To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture plus Chinese herbal medicines for ankylceing Methods： A total of 80 cases of AS patients were evenly and randomly divided into treatment group and control group. In treatment group, patients were treated with acupuncture of Jiaji （夹脊 EX-B 2） and oral administration of Yishen Tongdu Won （益肾通督丸,Bolus for Reinforcing the Kidney and Dredging Governor Vessesl） and those of control group treated with oral administration of Sulfasalazin （0.5 g, twice daily）. Before and after treatment, the thoracic-dilaion scale, Schober test, Bath ankylceing spondylitis disease activity index （BASDAI）, Bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index （BASFI）, erythrocyte sedimentation rate （ESR） and C-reaction protein （CRP） were detected separately. Results： After 6 months of treatment, of the both 40cases in treatment and control groups, 27 （67.5%） and 13 （32.5%） were improved remarkably, 11 （27.5%） and 16 （40.0%） effective, and 2 （5.0%） and 11 （27.5%） failed, with the effective rates being 95.0% and 72.5% separately. The therapeutic effect of treatment group was significantly superior to that of control group （P〈 0.05）. After treatment, the thoracicdilaion scale and Schober test values increased significantly （ P〈 0.05）, while BASDAI, BASFI, ESR and CRP lowered considerably （P〈0.01, P〈0.05）. Comparison between two groups indicated that after treatment, the decreased values of BASDAI, BASFI, ESR and CRP of treatment group were significantly lower than those of control group （ P〈 0.01 ）, while those of the thoracio-dilaion scale and Schober test of treatment group were significantly higher than those of control group （ P 〈 0.05, P 〈 0.01 ）. Results displayed that both acupuncture combined with Chinese drugs and Sulfasalazin could lower BASDAI, BASFI, ESR and CRP, raise the thoracic-dilaion scale and Schober test values considerably in AS patients, and the therapeutic effect of combined acupunclure and Chinese drugs was apparently superior to that of Westem medicine. Conclusion： Joint application of acupuncture and Chinese drugs is superior to Western medicine in the therapeutic effect for AS and has fewer side effects.

Observation on effect of electroacupuncture of different frequencies on patients after thyroid surgery:a randomized controlled trial

Objective To observe postoperative effect of electroacupuncture（EA） of different frequencies in acupuncture anesthesia combined with drugs on patients undergoing thyroid surgery.Methods One hundred and twenty patients undergoing thyroid surgery were randomly divided into a 2Hz electroacupuncture anesthesia group（group A）,a 100 Hz electroacupuncture anesthesia group（group B）,a 2Hz/100 Hz electroacupuncture anesthesia group（group C） and a cervical plexus block group（group D） in accordance with the random number table method,with 30 patients in each group.In group A,group B and group C,electroacupuncture was applied at bilateral Futu（扶突 LI 18）,Hegu（合谷 LI 4） and Neiguan（内关 PC 6） at frequencies of 2 Hz,100 Hz and 2 Hz/100 Hz respectively for 30 min.The needles were retained till the end of the surgery.Dolantin and atropine were intramuscularly injected In group D,bilateral cervical plexus block was produced with a mixture of1%lidocaine and 0.375%bupivicaine.Before surgery,pain threshold and threshold of pain tolerance were determined;during surgery,the duration of surgery was recorded;and after surgery,QOLS（Quality Of Life Score） and PHS（Prince-Henry Score） were assessed.Results PHS in group A,group B and group C were lower than that in group D,respectively（0.20±0.41,0.17±0.38,0.10±0.31 vs 0.40±0.50,P〈0.01）,and PHS in group C was lower than those in group A and group B,respectively（both P〈0.01）.QOLS in group A,group B and group C were higher than that in group D,respectively（9.97±1.07,9.97±2.27,10.40±1.45 vs 9.73±1.41,P〈0.05,P〈0.01）,and QOLS in group C was higher than those in group A and group B,respectively（both P〈0.05）.Conclusion Acupuncture anesthesia combined with drugs has better postoperative effect than drug anesthesia.Electroacupuncture of different frequencies can significantly improve general quality of life of patients,so patients recover well after thyroid surgery.As patients in group C suffered from the slightest pain with the highest quality of life,they recovered best within the shortest time.Electroacupuncture at frequency of 2 Hz/100 Hz can better play postoperative analgesic effect.

Effect of General Anaesthesia with Combination of Acupuncture and Enflurane Applied in Radical Operation of Laryngocarcinoma

Objective： To observe the effect of general anaesthesia with combination of acupuncture [ conducted with Han＇s acupoint nerve stimulator （HANS） applied] and enflurane in radical operation of laryngocarcinoma （LC）. Methods： Sixty patients with LC of grade Ⅰ -Ⅱ, classified according to the standard of American Society of Anesthesiologists （ASA）, were assigned by randomizing number table to the control group and the tested group, 30 patients in each group. The control group received anaesthesia with enflurane alone for inducing and maintaining; the tested group was anaesthetized with enflurane like that given to the control group but also received additionally needling stimulation conducted by HANS. The dosage of enflurane used, the minimum effective concentration of enflurane in alveolar air （MACEnf） and the changes of heart rate （HR） as well as blood pressure （BP） in patients at different time points in the operational process were observed. Results： As compared with those in the control group, in the tested group, both the MACEnf and the dosage of enflurane were reduced, with the difference between the two groups significant （ P〈0.01 ）. The changes of HR and BP among different time points in the tested group were slight, and as compared with those in the control group at the corresponding time points, the difference was significant （ P〈 0. 05 or P〈0.01）. Conclusion： General anaesthesia with combination of enflurane and needling conducted by HANS applied in radical operation of LC has definite effect with less complication. Needling could be cooperated with narcotics, and so it could be taken as an auxiliary measure of anaesthesia for radical operation of LC.

Regulation of Acupuncture on Interferon-γand Tumor Necrosis Factor of Lung Cancer-Operative Cases

Objective： To investigate tumor necrosis factor （TNF） of lung the regulation of acupuncture on γ-interteron （LNF-γ） and cancer-operative cases. Methods： to determine the INF-γ and TNF contents in the blood serum of lung cancer patients by double antibody sandwich immunoenzymatic method （ELISA）; to measure the INF-γ and TNF contents of 30 lung cancer patients in the acupuncture anesthesia group and 30 lung cancer patients in general anesthesia group before the operation and at the 8th days, the 12th day after the operation respectively and make comparison between the two groups. Results. The pre-operation INF-γ contents of the two groups showed no significant difference （P〉 0.05）; the post operation INF-γ contents of the two groups showed significant difference at 8th day and 12th day after the operation （P〈 0.05）; the acupuncture anesthesia group was superior to the general anesthesia group; the self-comparison of the anesthesia group showed significant difference at the 12th day and 8th day after the operation （P〈 0.05）; the pre-operation TNF contents of the two groups showed no significant difference （P〉 0.05） and the post-operation TNF contents of the two groups showed significant difference at the 8th day and 12th day after the operation （P〈 0.05）. Conclusion：Acupuncture can increase the serum INF-γ and TNF contents of lung cancer patients and therefore regulate the immunity of the patients.
