Purpose: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture combined with traction and Qigong exercise for treatment of nerve root type cervical spondylosis. Methods: A total of 130 nerve root type cervical spondylosis patients were randomly divided into acupuncture + traction + Qigong exercise (ATQE) group (n=59), acupuncture + Qigong exercise (AQE) group (n=40) and traction + Qigong exercise (TQE) group (n=31). Main acupoints used were Fengchi (GB 20) and cervical Jiaji (EX B 2) on the affected side. Results: After one month’s treatment, in ATQE, AQE and TQE groups, 43 (72.88%), 18 (45.00%) and 12 (45.16%) had remarkable amelioration, 14 (23.72%), 14 (35.00%) and 10 (32.26%) were effective, and 2 (3.39%), 8 (20.00%) and 7 (22.58%) had no apparent changes with the total effective rates being 96.61%, 80.00% and 77.41% respectively. The therapeutic effect of ATQE group was significantly superior to that of AQE and TQE groups (P<0.01). 展开更多

In the present paper, the authors review recent progresses of acupuncture treatment of cerebral hemorrhage and theoretical research. Regarding the clinical application of acupuncture therapy, in the acute stage of the disease, many doctors adopt body acupuncture and scalp-acupuncture, fewer doctors applied eye acupuncture; while in the chronic stage of the disease, many medical workers employ body acupuncture, scalp-acupuncture, combined therapies of acupuncture, functional exercise, massage, acupoint injection, etc.. Concerning studies on the mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of cerebral hemorrhage, abundant experience evidence show that acupuncture can raise the activity of the plasma fibrinolytic system to promote the absorption of blood clots of the foci; improve microcirculation; reduce cerebral tissue edema; regulate some chemical substances’ levels to lessen harmful effects of oxygen free radicals; and enhance the patient’s immune function. However, some problems still exist in clinical researches at present and affect the reasonable evaluation on the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture. 展开更多

Objective:To search all available sources to find incontrovertible scientific explanation of the meridian system and mechanism of acupuncture action. Methods:Extensive search of electronic databases was carried out to identify all published scientific articles, research papers and experimental findings regarding meridian system, acupuncture points and mechanisms of acupuncture action, from both English and Chinese language journals, from inception till date. Results:There are many hypotheses and studies about meridian system such as,primovascular system as meridian, nuclear tracers study to locate the track of meridian, infrared imaging studies to prove existence of meridians, investigations about anatomical structure of acupoints, etc. There are many researches and theories about mechanism of acupuncture action such as gate control theory of acupuncture analgesia,neurotransmitters,neuro-endocrine-immune network,fMRI evidences of brain’s processing of pain signal etc. Conclusion:Researchers over half a century discovered many factual information about meridian system,acupoints,neuro-transmitters and acupuncture analgesia,neuro-hormonal mechanism etc.All these important discoveries contributed to clarify the mysteries of meridian system and acupuncture action, but they still fell short of providing an incontrovertible scientific explanation.Further coordinated studies are warranted to explore more plausible and scientifically valid explanation of meridian system and acupuncture action. 展开更多

The key health issues for women tend to be primarily associated with the female reproductive system. There are also other gender priorities and consequences associated with ageing, which require effective interventions. Acupuncture is used worldwide and its evidence base is increasing on both mechanisms of action and its effectiveness in clinical care. Although acupuncture may be a valuable addition to healthcare for some conditions, it is rarely fully integrated into mainstream Western medicine clinical practice. Inadequate design and poor reporting of clinical trials have been barriers. Additionally systematic reviews and meta-analyses have tended to be equivocal and have reported that there is insufficient evidence for its recommendation. Future research should focus on ensuring good trial design including cost effectiveness and qualitative data and using a more pragmatic stance which reflects acupuncture in clinical practice. Undoubtedly, effective interventions are always needed to ensure the best health outcomes and address preventable deaths, morbidities, and disabilities among women but integration will be compromised unless underpinned by good evidence. 展开更多
