Objective:To study Leishmania infection in cats and its potential role in triuismission of the disease to human by parasitological,serological and molecular methods in Ahar District,East Azerbaijan Province.Methods:In...Objective:To study Leishmania infection in cats and its potential role in triuismission of the disease to human by parasitological,serological and molecular methods in Ahar District,East Azerbaijan Province.Methods:In this study,65 cats from different parts of Ahar Province were trapped.The cats were anesthetized with chloroform and blood samples were taken from jugular vein and tested by direct agglutination lest.Spleen and liver smear samples were prepared in order to microscopically examine these organs,and also cultured in Novy-MucNeal-Nicolle and Roswell Park Memorial Institute 1 641) media.Finally,spleen tissue DNA was extracted to perform polymerase chain reaction analysis.Results:In direct agglutination test,4(6%) cats had a positive titer,while 14(22%) cats had a titer of 1:80 which was suspected for an infection and 47(729c) cats were negative.Culture results were negative and ill polymerase chain reaction no amplification was observed.Conclusions:Wc found no case of feline visceral leishmaniasis.It needs more extensive studies by using a larger number of cats to firmly establish leishmaniasis in this area.展开更多

In this study, we concentrated on the prope...Two earthquakes occurred on 11 August 2012 in East Azerbaijan province, NW Iran with Mw 6.3 at 12:23:15.9 and Mw 6.1;11 minutes after the first shock at 12:34:34.8 GMT time. In this study, we concentrated on the properties of the aftershock sequences in a duration of 7.5-month time-period data after the main shocks, recorded by Broadband Iranian Network (BIN). We obtained p, c and K parameters with the maximum likelihood method and the occurrence rate was modeled by the modified Omori formula. Besides, we showed that aftershocks of the aftershock in 7 Nov. 2012 (M = 5.6) also decay according to the modified Omori law. We investigated the spatial and temporal variations of b-values before and after the twin earthquakes with Mw 6.3 and Mw 6.1 approximately 20 km around North Tabriz Fault (NTF) in the region from 1996 to 2013 using Iranian Seismological Center (IRSC). We believed that a research of the past 17 years has clearly established that spatial b-value changes and seismicity rate are highly significant and meaningful. Moreover, our research led to a warning for a probable strong motion along NTF for the coming couple of years.展开更多
The August 11, 2012 M<sub>w</sub> 6.4 earthquakes in northwestern Iran occurred as a result of oblique strike-slip faulting in the shallow crust of the Eurasia plate, approximately 300 kilometer east of th...The August 11, 2012 M<sub>w</sub> 6.4 earthquakes in northwestern Iran occurred as a result of oblique strike-slip faulting in the shallow crust of the Eurasia plate, approximately 300 kilometer east of the plate boundary between the Eurasia and Arabia plates. The seismotectonics of this region is controlled by the collision of the Arabia and Eurasia plates;at the latitude of the earthquakes, the Arabia plate moves almost due north with respect to the Eurasia plate at a rate of approximately 26 millimeter per year. Over the past forty years, seven earthquakes of M<sub>w</sub> 6 or greater have occurred within 300 kilometer of today’s events. The nearest was a M<sub>w</sub> 6.1 earthquake in February of 1997, approximately 100 kilometer to the east, which caused 1100 fatalities. The studied area encourage the authors to determine the focal mechanism, source time function and sub events’ features which can guide us to reliable judges.展开更多
