The aircraft noise problem is firstly reviewed in this article. The review is followed by a description and assessment of a number of sound propagation methods suitable for applications with a background mean flow field pertinent to aircraft noise. Of the three main areas of the noise problem, i.e. generation, propagation, and ra- diation, propagation provides a vital link between near-field noise generation and far-field radiation. Its accurate assessment ensures the overall validity of a prediction model. Of the various classes of propagation equations, linearised Euler equations are often casted in either time domain or frequency domain. The equations are often solved numerically by computational aeroacoustics techniques, bur are subject to the onset of Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability modes which may ruin the solutions. Other forms of linearised equations, e.g. acoustic perturbation equations have been proposed, with differing degrees of success. 展开更多

The emitting acoustic power and received mean square acoustic pressure are functions of time. The paper deals with this problem as a quasi-steady one. The whole process is resolved into several elementary procedures, for example, the flight trajectory, the geometric relation between the noise sources and observers, the noise source characteristics, the air propagation and ground effect. Two calculation examples are given in the paper, one for a long-range passenger with high bypass-ratio turbofan engine, and the other for a 3-leaved propeller. The composition of aircraft noise, its time history, frequency spectrum and directivity can be clearly described by these curves. It may be useful for the designer to perform the acoustic design of his aircraft layout. 展开更多

A large planar microphone array, which consists of 111 microphones, was successfully applied to measure a two dimensional mapping of the sound sources on landing aircraft. The focus was on the flap side edge noise source in this paper. The spectra, directivity and sound pressure level of flap side edge noise of 10 aircraft were presented in this paper. It is found that the spectrum of flap side edge noise is a broadband noise with some tones in some cases. Two different types of tone sources are found. It is proposed that one type of these tone sources is trailing edge semi baffled dipole source, and another is produced from the shedding of vortex from the wing cusp. The total sound pressure level of flap side edge broadband noise has no obvious directionality. However, the directivity of the tone noise in the flap side edge noise spectrum is obvious. It is demonstrated that the local flow field is the key to controlling the flap side edge noise. 展开更多

Due to the ever-increasing air traffic flow, the influence of aircraft noise around the airport has become significant. As most airlines are trying to decrease operation cost, stringent requirements for more simple and efficient departure trajectory are on a rise. Therefore,a departure trajectory design was established for performancebased navigation technology, and a multi-objective optimization model was developed, with constraints of safety and noise influence,as well as optimization targets of efficiency and simplicity. An improved ant colony algorithm was then proposed to solve the optimization problem. Finally,an experiment was conducted using the Lanzhou terminal airspace operation data, and the results showed that the designed departure trajectory was feasible and efficient in decreasing the aircraft noise influence. 展开更多

A large planar microphone array, which consists of 111 microphones, was successfully developed. The positions of 111 microphones in the array were determined by a random optimization procedure for the largest possible amplification and dynamic range. The beam pattern of planar array was obtained by numerical calculation. This planar array was applied to measure a two-dimensional mapping of the sound sources on landing aircraft. It is shown that important airframe noise sources can be identified. The spectra and directivity of any interested noise source can also be obtained by this measurement. 展开更多
