The electron beam welding-brazing being used to join 5A06 Al alloy to TC4 Ti alloy decreases the formation of brittle intermetallic compound.Experiments were carried out to study the influence of electron beam welding parameters on the tensile strength of welds,based on an orthogonal test and analysis method.The welding parameters include beam current,welding speed,scanning figure,scanning frequency,figure size,beam offset and focus current.The optimum parameters for3 mm 5A06 Al alloy and 2 mm TC4 alloy were as follows:acceleration voltage was 60 kV,beam current was 11 mA,welding speed was 600 mm/min,focus current was 0 mA,scan figure was O,scanning frequency was 1 000 Hz and beam offset was 0.5 mm.The results show that the joints were with good appearance and quality welded by the optimum parameters.The successful joints could be gained and the maximum tensile strength of Al/Ti dissimilar alloy joints could be up to 222.61 MPa using electron beam welding-brazing. 展开更多

In order to estimate the residual stresses in Ti2AlNb alloy jointed by electron beam welding (EBW), a computational approach based on finite element method was developed. Meanwhile, experiments were carried out to verify the numerical results. The comparison between the simulation results and measurements suggests that the developed computational approach has sufficient accuracy to predict the welding residual stress distributions. The results show that the central area of the fusion zone suffers tensile stresses in three directions. When the other parameters remain unchanged, the focus current has great impact on the weld shape and size, and then affects the residual stress level significantly. Moreover, the thick plate full-penetrated EBW weld suffers near 1000 MPa tensile stress of Z-direction in the center of the fusion zone. The wider weld has lower tensile stress in Z-direction, resulting in lower risk for cracking. 展开更多

In order to clarify the characteristics and formation mechanism of the reheat cracking in Ti2AlNb weldments,a series of heat treatment conditions were performed to the circular joints welded by electron beam,and then the macrostructures and microstructures were investigated using optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffractometry,and transmission electron microscopy.The results show that the reheat cracking occurs primarily along the grain boundaries in the weld when the Ti2AlNb circular welded joints are heated up to about 700℃.During the heat treatment,an almost complete transformation of B2→O happens while the temperature goes up through the O single-phase region.Then,O→B2+O phase transformation occurs primarily along the grain boundaries as the weld metal continues to heat up to the B2+O dual-phase region.Under the high tension stress consisting of welding residual stress and phase transformation stress,reheat cracking occurs at the interface between the B2+O dual-phase layer and the O-phase matrix. 展开更多

The IMC-layers are joint weaknesses at the Cu fusion line in centered welding and at the Ti fusion line when the beam is deviated towards Cu. A new method referred to as electron-beam superposition welding was presented, and the optimal welding sequence was considered. The IMC-layer produced by centered welding was fragmented and remelted during Cu-side non-centered welding, giving a finely structured compound layer and improved mechanical properties of the joint. The tensile strength of joint is 276.0 MPa, 76.7% that of the base metal. 展开更多

By use of self-consistent field Xα scattered-wave (SCF-Xα-SW) method, the electronic structure was calculated for four models of Ti4Al14X (X=Al, Fe, Ni and Cu) clusters. The Ti4Al14X cluster was developed based on L12 Al3Ti-base intermetallic compound. The results are presented using the density of states (DOS) and one-electron properties, such as relative binding tendency between the atom and the model cluster, and hybrid bonding tendency between the alloying element and the host atoms. By comparing the four models of Ti4Al14X cluster, the effect of the Fe, Ni or Cu atom on the physical properties of Al3Ti-based L12 intermetallic compounds is analyzed. The results indicate that the addition of the Fe, Ni or Cu atom intensifies the relative binding tendency between Ti atom and Ti4Al14X cluster. It was found that the Fermi level (EF) lies in a maximum in the DOS for Ti4Al14Al cluster; on the contrary, the EF comes near a minimum tn the DOS for Ti4Al14X (X=Fe, Ni and Cu) cluster. Thus the L12 crystal structure for binary Al3Ti alloy is unstable, and the addition of the Fe, Ni or Cu atom to Al3Ti is benefical to stabilize L12 crystal structure. The calculation also shows that the Fe, Ni or Cu atom strengthens the hybrid bonding tendency between the central atom and the host atoms for Ti4Al14X cluster and thereby may lead to the constriction of the lattice of Al3Ti-base intermetallic compounds. 展开更多

The electrochemical behavior of Ti-6Al-4V with 1 mm and 16 mm thickness prepared by electron beam powder bed fusion(EB-PBF)was investigated in phosphate buffered saline.Electrochemical results showed that EB-PBF Ti-6Al-4V with a larger component size was more resistant to corrosion compared to the smaller component,because of less acicularαʹphase content and moreβphase content.As a non-equilibrium phase in the“high-energy state”,αʹphase has a greater susceptibility to corrode and reduces the corrosion resistance of the material,whileβphase improves corrosion resistance of titanium alloys.The results show that the phase composition has a more significant effect on the corrosion performance than the grain size. 展开更多

Progress in the beam deflection technique opens up new possibilities for the application of electron beam (EB) surface and welding technologies in the automotive industry. This development is based on three-dimensional high-speed beam deflection and fully automatic online process control. So, in the EB surface treatment three-dimensional energy transfer fields can be realised which take into account the contour of a component, the conditions of heat conduction and the load conditions. High flexibility, precision and reproducibility are typical characteristics. High productivity is achieved by the simultaneous interaction of the EB in several processing areas or by carrying out several processes simultaneously. EB surface treatment is becoming more and more attractive and important especially in the automotive industry, and also in comparison to laser technologies. This paper deals with different EB surface technologies, for example hardening, remelting, surface alloying, dispersing or cladding of different materials such as steel, cast iron and different alloys of Al, Mg and Ti. Examples of applications in the automotive industry, especially engine components, will be discussed. 展开更多

选用电子束焊接方式对14 mm厚铸态Ti-Al-Mo-Zr钛合金进行焊接,在合适的工艺参数下获得成形良好、无内部缺陷的焊接接头。室温下测试与分析焊接接头的显微组织、显微硬度和力学性能,结果显示焊缝处主要由β相基体和粗大的针状α相组成,... 选用电子束焊接方式对14 mm厚铸态Ti-Al-Mo-Zr钛合金进行焊接,在合适的工艺参数下获得成形良好、无内部缺陷的焊接接头。室温下测试与分析焊接接头的显微组织、显微硬度和力学性能,结果显示焊缝处主要由β相基体和粗大的针状α相组成,热影响区处受焊接热循环作用部分转变为网状片层组织。焊缝处硬度略高于母材处,接头整体硬度分布均匀,无明显弱化区域;接头焊缝处抗拉强度优于母材,焊缝处冲击值AKV达到75 J/cm^2,热影响区冲击值为73 J/cm^2,Ti-Al-Mo-Zr钛合金电子束焊接接头冲击韧性良好。 展开更多
