To avoid heat treatmentinduced surface blisters, shortened solution treatment for 15 min at 490 ℃ and artificial aging for 6 h at 150 ℃ was undertaken. The results show that a 10% improvement in the shape factor of eutectic Si particles was achieved for Al_2Ca-added ADC12 with 0.8% Mg compared to the conventional ADC12 in the as-aged condition. Al_2Ca-added ADC12 with 0.8% Mg exhibited a yield strength of 289 MPa, a tensile strength of 407 MPa, and an elongation of 4.22%.展开更多

And the A12Ca compound was added in as-cast AZ31 alloys for grain refinement. The effect of its additional levels on grain refinement of as-cast AZ31 alloy was investigated and the mechanism of the grain refinement was discussed. The results reveal that the addition of 1.1% Al2Ca (mass fraction) decreases the average grain size of as-cast AZ31 alloy from 354 to 198 μm. And the thermal stability of the grains refined by Al2Ca is superior. The grain refining mechanism is attributed to the combined effects of solute and heterogeneous nucleation from the Al2Ca.展开更多

The results show that the variety of zinc content has little influence on the activity of Al or Ca, and the interaction of Zn and Al or Ca can be neglected when the mass fraction of Zn is lower than 2% in the AZ91 alloy containing calcium (noted as Mg-Al-Zn-Ca system). Therefore, the possible intermetallic compounds in the Mg-Al-Zn-Ca system can be predicted by directly calculating the Gibbs free energies of the reactions in Mg-Al-Ca system. The calculated Gibbs free energies in the Mg-Al-Ca system indicate that Al2Ca phase can take priority of depositing, which agrees with the experimental results in references. The consistency of calculation and experiment proves that the intermetallic compounds in the Mg-Al-Zn-Ca system can be predicted by the Miedema model and Chou model.展开更多

The effects of Ca on normal temperature mechanical properties and high temperature creep behavior of alloys were characterized by tensile and constant creep test.Microstructure analysis indicated that Ca was preferentially combined with Al in the alloy to form the high melting point Al_2Ca phase at the grain boundary. The addition of Ca can refine the crystal grains and reduces the content of β-Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase. With the increase of Ca content in the alloy, Al_2Ca phases at the grain boundary gradually changed to the network of lamellar structure, and replaced the β-Mg_(17)Al_(12) phase as the main strengthening phase gradually. The creep resistance of the alloy continuously increases because the high-temperature stable phase Al_2Ca firmly nailed at grain boundaries impedes the sliding of grain boundaries. However, when the addition of Ca was more than 1.5%, mechanical properties of the alloy started to decrease, which was probably due to the large amount of irregularly shaped Al_2Ca phases at the grain boundary. Experimental results show that the optimal addition amount of Ca is 1.5 wt.%.展开更多

The results reveal that the precipitated phases of AEC422 consist of Al2La and Al2Ca by contrast with the precipitated phase Al11La3 in AE42, which is instable and decomposes to Al2La and Al at high temperature. Creep resistance of AEC422 is significantly improved compared with that of AE42. The microstructure of AEC422 has no obvious changes after creep test at 175℃ and 70MPa, as compared to that before creep test, indicating that Al2La and Al2Ca have high thermal stability. Especially Al2Ca phase largely increases the strength of the grain boundaries in AEC422, which accounts for the creep resistance improvement.展开更多
