Ten patients narrated their thinking or feelings along with some prepared questions in two sessions. Patients’ narrative data were categorized by a qualitative analysis and 34 categories were chosen. They perceived good points in home hospice like “Being able to spend time freely”, “Close relationships with care staffs and strong confidence”, though they perceived trouble points like “Suffering from putting burden on the people around me” or “Worries about economic problems”. They perceived psychological changes through illness like “Having peace of mind and becoming kind” “Desire for a natural death”. Moreover they perceived their life like “Acceptance of one’s life including illness” “My life lived with satisfaction”. They regarded as important things such as “Spending life time usefully” “Feelings of my family members and of those around me”, and as hopes “Hope to leave my living proof” “Living left time to the fullest”. From these categories, we propose an acceptance model of patients’ life and a narrative program for nurses.展开更多

Also specific objectives are to identify the phases or cultural moments that are distinguished in these processes. Research Question: How can the narrative materials contribute to the study of the processes of critical care and/or qualitative research in nephrology? Method and Sources: There have been studies focusing on the narrative of patients who have written their experiences building a literature experience ill (Siles et al., 1997, 1999, 2000). Sources have been used to extract testimony retrospective autobiographies written by people who have experienced the experiences of different diseases (Allué, 1996, 1997, Zorn, 1991, Gilbert, 1993;Comas, 2009;Gracia Armendáriz, 2010;Sampedro, 1996, Sacks, 2010). The analysis was developed by categorizing units of meaning, meaning families and networks. To identify the cultural moments we have followed the criteria established by Siles and Solano (2009): Multiculturalism, interculturalism and transculturalism. To identify rites of passage and liminality states have followed the principles outlined by Van Gennep (2013) and Turner (1990, 2008). Results: We identified cultural moments and characteristic states of liminality in critical care and kidney. Conclusions: narrative sources are effective for analyzing the meanings and experiences of patients in critical care and nephrology tool.展开更多

In contrast, when it comes to women who give up their children for adoption, studies are far fewer. The present research aims to investigate how the myth of motherly love affects the ideas and conceptions concerning giving up a child for adoption from the perspective of the nursing professionals directly involved with these women. Also, the aim here is to interfere preventively with these professionals, raising awareness of the conceptions and prejudices related to giving up a child for adoption. Methodologically speaking, the research is designed as a qualitative research, based on the clinical method. The procedure was undertaken using group dynamics carried out with 19 professionals (nurses and nursing technicians). PaJcticipants performed a free association activity and continued with two fictional stories on giving up a child for adoption. The results indicate that the ideas derived from the myth of motherly love are indeed present in the professionals' subjectivity and influence their behavior and attitude towards these women. Additionally, financial difficulties and other factors external to these women are provided as the main reasons for giving a child for adoption. Additionally, the intention is also to minimize the negative effects on the psychic life of these women who give their children up for adoption as well as to provide these children with a more sustainable life project.展开更多

Method: An interview was carried out with 18 professional female authors about their writings about death of a close relative, their mothers. They were asked to tell about the grief and what the writing meant to them. Results: All authors described in narratives. Some results were evident such as;feelings of relief by writing and their reflections and memories became clear. As authors of imaginative literature they were use to the process of writing. Conclusions: The evidence from this study offers useful information for nurses to plan and design programmes based on narrative structures in nursing care.展开更多
