Edgar Allan Poe is a writer who establishes a new school in the American history of literature.He firstly and consciously takes the short story as an independent literature style,advances his own composing theory of s...Edgar Allan Poe is a writer who establishes a new school in the American history of literature.He firstly and consciously takes the short story as an independent literature style,advances his own composing theory of short stories and applies it to his composition of Gothic novels.He plays a great role in the contribution of the internal development of Gothic novels for he organically unified the moral exploration and psychological exploration,thoroughly displayed the conflict between the good and the evil as well as advanced the composing technique of Gothic novels to the extremely high artistic state.This paper holds that the Gothic technique is successfully applied in one of Edgar Allan Poe's famous short stories A Cask of Amontillado in three aspects: theme and plot,characterization and atmosphere,and its author reveals people's most deep-hidden inner world and exposes the ugliness of human's nature by way of the Gothic technique and the special effects of terror.展开更多
