Chinese intemational students studying at American universities are generally believed to be intelligent, hard-working and high score achieving, which are confirmed by many sources. People tend to believe that it is s... Chinese intemational students studying at American universities are generally believed to be intelligent, hard-working and high score achieving, which are confirmed by many sources. People tend to believe that it is simply easy for Chinese students to excel academically at US universities, but this is not necessarily true, especially for students fresh from China. Based on a survey of Chinese students studying at US universities and interviews with American professors, this essay reveals Chinese students' academic frustrations and struggles that have been overlooked due to their high scores, and points out that it is the mismatch between Chinese and American teaching and learning styles that leads to this difficulty. Furthermore, this essay concludes with the author providing suggestions for both Chinese and American educators to help future Chinese students make the most of their higher education opportunity at American universities. 展开更多

The participants of 40 university students, including Ame... Male and female speech is different in many ways. This study intends to compare and contrast love expressions used by American and Chinese university students. The participants of 40 university students, including American male university students, American female university students, Chinese male university students, and Chinese female university students, were selected randomly. Each of them was given one questionnaire. There was an introductory question, which aimed at finding out whether the participants would choose to express their love in verbal or written language, and if they would, how they would express it. Then the participants were channeled into the four different parts. Results showed that male university students of both nations were more eager to express their love and also had less constraints and pressure compared with their female counterparts did. American university students of both genders were more open and direct when they expressed their love, whereas Chinese university students of both genders were more reserved and tended to express their love indirectly. 展开更多

Does a Latin American Philosophy that is more than a copy of European thought exist? This question determines the historical-systematic presentation of important philosophical approaches in the 20th century in the Spanish speaking part of Latin America. Jos6 Marti's essay, "Our America" (1891), offers the essential topics of Latin American philosophy (liberation, literal plurality, continental and national identity, anti-positivistic emotionalism and intuitionalism, mestizo-philosophy, indigenous wisdom, unity of universal and regional principles, social-practical, ethical and intercultural orientation). These topics are paradigmatically outlined by means of the portraits of pioneering poets, philosophers, and traditions of Latin America. The most convincing approach of the present seeks for an intercultural formatting and performance of philosophical issues, which includes a sensibility for the hybrid character of many Latin American realities and the attempt to identify universal insights in local traditions. Latin American intercultural philosophy avoids relativism and relies on discovering and developing communal ethical standards which link cultures. 展开更多

美国产学研合作教育起步较早,积累了丰富的办学实践经验,具有完善的法律保障体系和灵活多样的合作方式,形成了独特的办学模式。尤其是社区学院的校企合作教育,有效促进了美国地方社会经济的发展。美国社区学院的校企产学研合作教育经历... 美国产学研合作教育起步较早,积累了丰富的办学实践经验,具有完善的法律保障体系和灵活多样的合作方式,形成了独特的办学模式。尤其是社区学院的校企合作教育,有效促进了美国地方社会经济的发展。美国社区学院的校企产学研合作教育经历了形成、发展、成熟和繁荣四个时期,在服务地方社会经济和人才培养方面取得了显著成效,积累了丰富的成功经验:一是建立健全法律制度,为开展产学研合作教育提供保障;二是建立政府、社区学院和企业多元协作体系,推动校企产学研合作良性运转;三是依托项目群推动社区学院与企业开展深度合作,搭建校企产学研合作教育的桥梁;四是形成社区学院与企业联合培养人才模式,搭建校企产学研合作教育的纽带;五是满足地方社会经济发展的需求,抓住校企产学研合作教育的生命线。我国地方高校应借鉴美国社区学院发展的经验,充分发挥地方高校与企业之间的优势资源,健全校企产学研合作教育的法律体系,建立产学研合作教育一体化发展模式与管理机制,依托项目推动地方高校校企产学研合作教育,推动地方社会经济发展。 展开更多

拒绝美援救济品运动是1948年平津高校师生“反美扶日”运动的重要组成部分,目的是为了抗议美国驻华使节对中国学生的侮辱和威胁,维护中国人民的尊严和气节。它之所以发生在平津地区,是因为美国中华救济团在平津实施的一项为学生补充营... 拒绝美援救济品运动是1948年平津高校师生“反美扶日”运动的重要组成部分,目的是为了抗议美国驻华使节对中国学生的侮辱和威胁,维护中国人民的尊严和气节。它之所以发生在平津地区,是因为美国中华救济团在平津实施的一项为学生补充营养的紧急救济计划,这使平津高校师生找到了维护尊严与维持生活之间的平衡点。当时所拒绝的美援救济品主要是美国中华救济团提供的作为学生营养补助品的鸡蛋和豆浆,而非维生必需品。这是平津高校师生在维护尊严与维持生活之间努力寻求平衡的一种无奈选择和抗争,其象征意义大于实质意义。它反映了平津高校师生“不食嗟来之食”的骨气,收到了一定积极效果,是一项值得肯定的正义之举。 展开更多
