Phytochemical Analysis and Contractile Effects of Aqueous and Hydroethanolic Extracts of Anastatica hierochuntica L. (Brassicaceae) on the Isolated Uterus of Mice

(Brassicaceae) has been claimed to treat various conditions, including complicated childbirth. The principal objective of this research was to provide scientific evidence on the contractile effect of the aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts of the whole plant from A. hierochuntica during labor. Method: Qualitative and quantitative methods helped identify and quantify the phytoconstituents in both extracts. The antioxidant activity was studied using four standard methods (ABTS, DPPH, FRAP, and LPO). Results: The inhibitory power of the extracts on pro-inflammatory enzymes such as 15-lipoxygenase and phospholipase A<sub>2</sub> was determined. The contractile effects of the extracts were evaluated using isolated pregnant mice uteri. Steroids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, and reduced compounds were identified in both extracts. The hydroethanolic extract exhibited higher content of hydrolyzable tannins (15.07 ± 0.24 mg tannic acid equivalent/g) than the aqueous decoction (11.8 ± 0.69 mg TAE/g). The extracts demonstrated the ability to scavenge DPPH and ABTS radicals, reduce ferric ions, and inhibit especially lipid peroxidation. No significant difference was noted in the phospholipase inhibition between the extracts and betamethasone. The hydroethanolic extract displayed the most significant anti-lipoxygenase activity with an IC<sub>50</sub> value of 55.82 ± 1.15 μg/mL. The lethal dose (LD<sub>50</sub>) of extracts was estimated to be superior to 2000 mg/kg body weight (bw). The ability of the samples to produce one cm amplitude of contraction at 50% effective concentrations (EC<sub>50</sub>) was 5.33 × 10<sup>−8</sup> ± 0.32 mg/mL for oxytocin, 1.51 ± 0.08 mg/mL for aqueous extract and 3.57 ± 0.61 mg/mL for hydroethanolic extract. Conclusion: These findings could provide evidence for using Anastatica hierochuntica to facilitate childbirth. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of Anastatica hierochuntica ethanolic(KEE),aqueous(KAE)extracts,and their combination against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats.METHODS:The HPLC analysis for KEE and KAE was quantitatively carried out.Biochemical liver markers,antioxidant enzymes,and histopathological alterations were examined then total hepatoprotection potential was calculated.RESULTS:Among 9 identified phenolic compounds(PC)in KEA,sinapic acid was the highest while syringic acid was the highest among 21 identified PC in KAE.Six flavonoids were identified in KEE and two in KAE using HPLC,respectively.Oral administration of KEE,KAE,and KEE+KAE at 250 mg/kg body weight significantly reduced aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT)levels,alkaline phosphatase(ALP),total bilirubin(TBILI),and also attenuated histopathological changes.Additionally,they reduced malondialdehyde(MOD),restored reduced-glutathione(GSH),and enhanced superoxide dismutase(SOD)levels.KEE,KAE,and KEE+KAE protected the liver from CCl4-hepatotoxicity as they mainly attenuating oxidative stress.Total hepatoprotection was about 128.3%,114.5%,and 103.8%for KEE,KAE,and KEE+KAE,respectively.CONCLUSION:Biochemical observations,supplemented by histopathological examination revealed that AH affords extract-depending protection against CCl4-hepatotoxicity. 展开更多

含生草作为一种治疗难产的药物,其产地被唐代本草典籍《本草拾遗》记载为"靺羯国"。通过对国外相关记载与研究的梳理与分析,可知含生草的实际产地是阿拉伯帝国境内的西亚、北非地区。考古发现与文献记载揭示了中亚粟特人与东... 含生草作为一种治疗难产的药物,其产地被唐代本草典籍《本草拾遗》记载为"靺羯国"。通过对国外相关记载与研究的梳理与分析,可知含生草的实际产地是阿拉伯帝国境内的西亚、北非地区。考古发现与文献记载揭示了中亚粟特人与东北亚地区有直接接触的历史事实。根据对国内外中亚—东北亚国际交通线路的相关研究的比较,以及对《日本书纪》中相关史料记载的深入解读和对唐代北疆东西交通路线相关考证的梳理,可知含生草是由中亚粟特商人携带,经横贯中国北方草原地带的"草原丝绸之路",与中原地区"擦肩而过",而最终传入渤海国;再从渤海国向中原地区传播。渤海国在唐代阿拉伯药物东传中原的过程中起到了中继作用。 展开更多

The objectives of the present study are to evaluate the chromosomal aberrations in somatic and germ cells of alloxanized diabetic rats treated with methanolic extracts of Cleome droserifolia (Sammo), Anastatica hierochuntica (Kafta), Juniperus phoencea (Araar) and Hyphaene thebaica (Doum) as well as their effects on blood glucose, liver and testes total soluble protein, DNA and RNA contents and also nucleases (RNAase and DNAase) activity. The material and Methods: The study was performed in six groups. The first group was the normal healthy control;the second group was rats injected with alloxan (diabetic control). Every one of the other four groups (diabetic rats) was ingested with each of the methanolic extracts of Kafta, Doum, Sammo and Araar (individually). The results: The results of chromosomal analysis showed that, diabetic rats had a highly significant increase of chromosomal aberrations compared to that of normal healthy control. Animals which treated with the four plants methanolic extracts showed significant improvements in the frequencies of chromosomal aberrations. In case of biochemical analysis, blood glucose level was significantly increased but immunoglobulins levels were decreased in diabetic albino rats. Diabetes increased serum total lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL but serum HDL was decreased. RNA and DNA as well as inhibited the nucleases (RNAase and DNAase) activity of both organs (liver and testes) tissue. The conclusions: It is concluded that diabetes is much harmful in the animal body, whilst the induction of flavonoids extract (by methanol) of Kafta, Somma, Araar and Doum reduced these harmful of diabetes. 展开更多
