The reasonable modification strategies of Zn foil anodes, current collectors with pre-deposited Zn, and anode-free aqueous Zn metal batteries(AF-AZMBs) to improve Zn utilization are then detailed. In particular, the working mechanism of AF-AZMBs is systematically introduced. Finally, the challenges and perspectives for constructing high-utilization Zn anodes are presented.展开更多

文摘Aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs) have received considerable attention owing to their various advantages such as safety, low cost, simple battery assembly conditions, and high ionic conductivity. However, they still suffer from serious problems, including uncontrollable dendrite growth, corrosion, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) from water decomposition, electrode passivation, and unexpected by-products.The creation of a uniform artificial nanocrystal layer on the Zn anode surface is a promising strategy for resolving these issues.Herein,we propose the use of a perovskite CaTiO_(3)(CTO) protective layer on Zn(CTO@Zn) as a promising approach for improving the performance of AZIBs.The CTO artificial layer provides an efficient pathway for Zn ion diffusion towards the Zn metal because of the high dielectric constant (εr=180) and ferroelectric characteristics that enable the alignment of dipole moments and redistribute the Zn^(2+)ions in the CTO layer.By avoiding the direct contact of the Zn anode with the electrolyte solution, the uneven dendrite growth, corrosion, parasitic side reactions, and HER are mitigated, while CTO retains its mechanical and chemical robustness during cycling.Consequently,CTO@Zn demonstrates an improved lifespan in a symmetric cell configuration compared with bare Zn.CTO@Zn shows steady overpotential (~68 m V) for 1500 h at 1 mA cm^(-2)/0.5 mA h cm^(-2),excelling bare Zn.Moreover, when paired with the V_(2)O_(5)-C cathode, the CTO@Zn//V_(2)O_(5)-C full battery delivers 148.4 mA h g^(-1)(based on the mass of the cathode) after 300 cycles. This study provides new insights into Zn metal anodes and the development of high-performance AZIBs.

文摘Aqueous zinc-halogen batteries are promising candidates for large-scale energy storage due to their abundant resources, intrinsic safety, and high theoretical capacity.Nevertheless, the uncontrollable zinc dendrite growth and spontaneous shuttle effect of active species have prohibited their practical implementation.Herein,a double-layered protective film based on zinc-ethylenediamine tetramethylene phosphonic acid(ZEA)artificial film and ZnF2-rich solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)layer has been successfully fabricated on the zinc metal anode via electrode/electrolyte synergistic optimization. The ZEA-based artificial film shows strong affinity for the ZnF2-rich SEI layer, therefore effectively suppressing the SEI breakage and facilitating the construction of double-layered protective film on the zinc metal anode.Such double-layered architecture not only modulates Zn2+flux and suppresses the zinc dendrite growth, but also blocks the direct contact between the metal anode and electrolyte, thus mitigating the corrosion from the active species. When employing optimized metal anodes and electrolytes, the as-developed zinc-(dual)halogen batteries present high areal capacity and satisfactory cycling stability. This work provides a new avenue for developing aqueous zinc-(dual)halogen batteries.

文摘Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)have garnered extensive attention as promising energy storage systems because of the advantages of low cost and high safety. However, severe parasitic reactions at the Zn anode surface pose a huge challenge for the practical application of AZIBs,especially the intricate hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and Zn dendrite growth.Herein, zwitterionic taurine with isoelectric point property is introduced as an electrolyte additive to construct a passivation layer by adapting its net charge to the microenvironment variation for stabilizing the Zn anode. The experimental and theoretical results reveal that taurine can not only in-situ form a hydrophobic and zincophilic layer on the Zn anode surface via the chelation with Zn^(2+)in the alkaline interfacial microenvironment, but also buffer the pH change dynamically, thus effectively suppressing the HER and Zn dendrite growth. As a consequence, the taurine-containing electrolyte enables a stable cycling of Zn anodes in symmetric Zn∥Zn cells for more than 1800 h under a deep plating/stripping condition(5 mA cm^(-2)and 5 mAh cm^(-2)).More encouragingly, the full cells coupled with the NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10)cathode can also exhibit an excellent capacity retention of 89.8%after 1200 cycles. This efficient strategy with an environmental adaptive additive offers valuable insights for mitigating the side reactions to achieve practical AZIBs and beyond.

文摘It is challenging for aqueous Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs)to achieve comparable low-temperature(low-T)performance due to the easy-frozen electrolyte and severe Zn dendrites.Herein,an aqueous electrolyte with a low freezing point and high ionic conductivity is proposed.Combined with molecular dynamics simulation and multi-scale interface analysis(time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry threedimensional mapping and in-situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method),the temperature independence of the V_(2)O_(5)cathode and Zn anode is observed to be opposite.Surprisingly, dominated by the solvent structure of the designed electrolyte at low temperatures, vanadium dissolution/shuttle is significantly inhibited, and the zinc dendrites caused by this electrochemical crosstalk are greatly relieved, thus showing an abnormal temperature inversion effect.Through the disclosure and improvement of the above phenomena, the designed Zn||V_(2)O_(5)full cell delivers superior low-T performance, maintaining almost 99%capacity retention after 9500 cycles(working more than 2500 h)at-20°C.This work proposes a kind of electrolyte suitable for low-T ZIBs and reveals the inverse temperature dependence of the Zn anode, which might offer a novel perspective for the investigation of low-T aqueous battery systems.

文摘Aqueous Zn-ion batteries(AZIBs)are one of the promising battery technologies for the green energy storage and electric vehicles. As one attractive cathode material for AZIBs,α-MnO2 materials exhibit superior electrochemical properties. However, their long-term reversibility is still in great suspense.Considering the decisive effect of the structure and morphology on theα-MnO2 materials,hierarchicalα-MnO2 materials would be promising to improve the cycle performance of AZIB.Here,we synthesized theα-MnO2 urchin-like microspheres(AUM)via a self-assembled method. The porous microspheres composed of one-dimensionalα-MnO2 nanofibers with high crystallinity, which improved the surface area and active sites for Zn2+intercalation.The AUM-based AZIB realized a high initial capacity of 308.0 mA hg-1,and the highest energy density was 396.7 W hkg-1.The kinetics investigation confirmed the high capacitive contribution and fast ion diffusion of the AUM.Ex-situ XRD measurement further verified the synergistic insertion/extraction of H+and Zn2+ions during the charge/discharge process. The superiority of the AUM guaranteed good electrochemical performance and reversible phase evolution, and this application would promote the follow-up research on the advanced AZIB.

文摘Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are attracting considerable attention because of their high safety compared with conventional lithium-ion batteries.Manganese-based materials have been widely developed for zinc-ion batteries cathode owning to their low cost, high security and simple preparation. However, the severe volume expansion and poor stability during charging and discharging limit the further development of manganese-based cathodes.Herein,superiorα-MnO_(2)@g-C_(3)N_(4)was successfully prepared for stable zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)cathode by introducing g-C_(3)N_(4)nanosheets.Compared with pureα-MnO_(2),αMnO_(2)@g-C_(3)N_(4)has a specific capacity of 298 mAh·g^(-1)at 0.1 A·g^(-1).Even at 1 A·g^(-1),theα-MnO_(2)@g-C_(3)N_(4)still retains 100 mAh·g^(-1)(83.4%retention after 5000 cycles),implying its excellent cycling stability.Theα-MnO_(2)@gC_(3)N_(4)-based cathode has the highest energy density(563 Wh·kg^(-1))and power energy density(2170 W·kg^(-1)).This work provides new avenues for the development of a wider range of cathode materials for ZIBs.

文摘Aqueous sodium-ion batteries(ASIBs)and aqueous potassium-ion batteries(APIBs)present significant potential for large-scale energy storage due to their cost-effectiveness,safety,and environmental compatibility.Nonetheless, the intricate energy storage mechanisms in aqueous electrolytes place stringent require-ments on the host materials.Prussian blue analogs(PBAs),with their open three-dimensional framework and facile synthesis, stand out as leading candidates for aqueous energy storage. However,PBAs possess a swift capacity fade and limited cycle longevity, for their structural integrity is compromised by the pronounced dis-solution of transition metal(TM)ions in the aqueous milieu. This manuscript provides an exhaustive review of the recent advancements concerning PBAs in ASIBs and APIBs.The dissolution mechanisms of TM ions in PBAs,informed by their structural attributes and redox processes, are thoroughly examined. Moreover, this study delves into innovative design tactics to alleviate the dissolution issue of TM ions.In conclusion, the paper consolidates various strategies for suppressing the dissolution of TM ions in PBAs and posits avenues for prospective exploration of high-safety aqueous sodium-/potassium-ion batteries.

文摘Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are promising due to inherent safety, low cost, low toxicity, and high volumetric capacity. However, issues of dendrites and side reactions between zinc metal anode and the electrolyte need to be solved for extended storage and cycle life. Here,we proposed that an electrolyte additive with an intermediate chelation strength of zinc ion—strong enough to exclude water molecules from the zinc metal-electrolyte interface and not too strong to cause a significant energy barrier for zinc ion dissociation—can benefit the electrochemical stability by suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction, overpotential growth, and den-drite formation.Penta-sodium diethylene-triaminepentaacetic acid salt was selected for such a purpose. It has a suitable chelating ability in aqueous solutions to adjust solvation sheath and can be readily polarized under electrical loading conditions to further improve the passivation.Zn||Zn symmetric cells can be stably operated over 3500 h at 1 mA cm^(-2).Zn||NH4V4O10 full cells with the additive show great cycling stability with 84.6%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1 A g^(-1).Since the additive not only reduces H2 evolution and corrosion but also modifies Zn2+diffusion and deposition, highlyreversible Zn electrodes can be achieved as verified by the experimental results. Our work offers a practical approach to the logical design of reliable electrolytes for high-performance aqueous batteries.

文摘Current lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)rely on organic liquid electrolytes that pose significant risks due to their flammability and toxicity. The potential for environmental pollution and explosions resulting from battery damage or fracture is a critical concern.Water-based(aqueous)electrolytes have been receiving attention as an alternative to organic electrolytes. However,a narrow electrochemicalstability window, water decomposition, and the consequent low battery operating voltage and energy density hinder the practical use of aqueous electrolytes. Therefore, developing novel aqueous electrolytes for sustainable,safe,high-performance LIBs remains challenging. This Review first commences by summarizing the roles and requirements of electrolytes–separators and then delineates the progression of aqueous electrolytes for LIBs,encompassing aqueous liquid and gel electrolyte development trends along with detailed principles of the electrolytes. These aqueous electrolytes are progressed based on strategies using superconcentrated salts, concentrated diluents, polymer additives, polymer networks, and artificial passivation layers, which are used for suppressing water decomposition and widening the electrochemical stability window of water of the electrolytes. In addition, this Review discusses potential strategies for the implementation of aqueous Li-metal batteries with improved electrolyte–electrode interfaces.A comprehensive understanding of each strategy in the aqueous system will assist in the design of an aqueous electrolyte and the development of sustainable and safe high-performance batteries.

文摘Aqueous zinc metal batteries(AZMBs)are promising candidates for next-generation energy storage due to the excellent safety, environmental friendliness, natural abundance, high theoretical specific capacity, and low redox potential of zinc(Zn) metal. However, several issues such as dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution, corrosion, and passivation of Zn metal anodes cause irreversible loss of the active materials. To solve these issues, researchers often use large amounts of excess Zn to ensure a continuous supply of active materials for Zn anodes. This leads to the ultralow utilization of Zn anodes and squanders the high energy density of AZMBs. Herein, the design strategies for AZMBs with high Zn utilization are discussed in depth, from utilizing thinner Zn foils to constructing anode-free structures with theoretical Zn utilization of 100%, which provides comprehensive guidelines for further research. Representative methods for calculating the depth of discharge of Zn anodes with different structures are first summarized. Finally, the challenges and perspectives for constructing high-utilization Zn anodes are presented.

文摘Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs) hold great promise as a viable alternative to lithium-ion batteries owing to their high energy density and environmental friendliness. However,AZIBs are consistently plagued by the formation of zinc dendrites and concurrent side reactions, which significantly diminish their overall service life,In this study, the glass fiber separator(GF) is modified using zeolite imidazole salt framework-8(ZIF-8),enabling the development of efficient AZIBs.ZIF-8,which is abundant in nitrogen content, efficiently regulates the desolvation of [Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+) to inhibit hydrogen production. Moreover,it possesses abundant nanochannels that facilitate the uniform deposition of Zn~(2+) via a localized action, thereby hindering the formation of dendrites. The insulating properties of ZIF-8 help prevent Zn^(2+) and water from trapping electron reduction at the layer surface, which reduces corrosion of the zinc anode.Consequently,ZIF-8-GF achieves the even transport of Zn^(2+) and regulates the homogeneous deposition along the Zn(002) crystal surface, thus significantly enhancing the electrochemical performance of the AZIBs,In particular, the Zn|Zn symmetric cell with the ZIF-8-GF separator delivers a stable cycle life at0.5 mA cm^(-2) of 2300 h.The Zn|ZIF-8-GF|MnO_(2) cell exhibits reduced voltage polarization while maintaining a capacity retention rate(93.4%) after 1200 cycles at 1.2 A g^(-1) The unique design of the modified diaphragm provides a new approach to realizing high-performance AZIBs.

文摘Aqueous zinc-sulfur batteries at room temperature hold great potential for next-generation energy storage technology due to their low cost, safety and high energy density. However, slow reaction kinetics and high activation energy at the sulfur cathode pose great challenges for the practical applications.Herein,biomass-derived carbon with single-atomic cobalt sites(MMPC-Co)is synthesized as the cathode in Zn-S batteries. The catalysis of single-atom Co sites greatly promotes the transform of cathode electrolyte interface(CEI)on the cathode surface, while offering accelerated charge transfer rate for high conversion reversibility and large electrochemical surface area(ECSA)for high electrocatalytic current.Furthermore, the rich pore structure not only physically limits sulfur loss, but also accelerates the transport of zinc ions.In addition, the large pore volume of MMPC-Co is able to relieve the stress effect caused by the volume expansion of Zn S during charge/discharge cycles, thereby maintaining the stability of electrode structure.Consequently, the sulfur cathode maintains a high specific capacity of 729.96 m A h g^(-1)after 500 cycles at4 A g^(-1),which is much better than most cathode materials reported in the literature. This work provides new insights into the design and development of room-temperature aqueous Zn-S batteries.
