Study on Traditional Architectural Decoration Patterns of Temple of the Three Sus

Temple of the Three Sus,which was first established during the Yuan Dynasty,features a natural,unrestrained,and classically elegant garden architectural style.This paper discusses the multiple characteristics and meanings of traditional architectural decorative patterns at Temple of the Three Sus from a semiotic perspective.First,it analyzes the denotative aspects of these patterns,including their stylistic forms,structural frameworks,and craftsmanship techniques.Second,the paper classifies the traditional architectural decorative patterns of the Temple of the Three Sus based on the types of sources of these patterns and interprets the implied meanings of each.Finally,the paper explores the application of these traditional decorative patterns in modern urban design,specifically in Meishan City,discussing the inheritance and innovation of these patterns in contemporary urban design and emphasizing the importance of integrating tradition with modernity.

The evolution of Liang Sicheng’s construction of Chinese architectural traditions in his drawings(1920se1930s)

This article investigates one of the earliest attempts to systematically construct a building tradition and incorporate it into modern Chinese architectural design.These efforts were put forth by Liang Sicheng(1901e1972),one of the most distinguished Chinese architects and architectural historians,in the 1920s and 1930s in China,informed by the strong collective intention to honour the Chinese past.This article provides a historical and critical reflection on this collective intention that is still shared nowadays by architects and architectural theorists.This article examines in depth the evolution of the different ways Liang used the building past and constructed the Chinese architectural traditions in different crucial stages of his architectural career in the 1920s and 1930s.It uses architectural drawing as both the research subject and the research method.Three of Liang’s representative drawings from these crucial professional stages are juxtaposed and investigated to reveal this evolution using the iconography and iconology method.

Architectural Skyline Based on Traditional Architecture Aesthetics Perspective

Architectural skyline is an important part of urban landscape, also is the most direct expression of "first impression". However, with the development of the city, the shaping of the skyline that is contrary to the concept of aesthetics and the position of skyline in the urban form has been gradually ignored. Based on the interpretation of traditional architecture aesthetics theories, the paper introduced its rules as a guide into the development of city architectural skyline, analyzed and concluded the aesthetic characteristics of architectural skyline from the aspects of architectural form and naturalism. It provided theoretical guidance and method reference in the consideration of the creation and development on the city architectural skyline.

Analysis of Architectural Art of Traditional Ancestral Hall in Ji’an Meibei Village,Jiangxi Province

The traditional architecture in Ji’an area of Jiangxi Province is known for its ancient style,dignified,and grand,distinctive hierarchy,staggered,exquisite structure,carved beams,and painted buildings,and has a long history,so that the traditional architectural form and artistic style of the region has formed a strong regional characteristics,so the authors chose the traditional ancestral hall architecture in the region as the object of study.First of all,the basic information of traditional architecture,history,and culture in Meibei ancient village in Ji’an region was collected.Secondly,using field research method,data measurement,image collection,and relevant drawings were made for traditional ancestral hall architecture in Meibei ancient village,including the architectural form,decoration,etc.of“Yongmu Hall”and“Quzhi Hall”.Finally,we analyzed,compared,and researched these representative ancestral halls in a more systematic way with the theory of art class,and came to a more objective conclusion on the artistic characteristics of ancestral hall architecture.At the same time,the research and communication of this research can enhance people’s understanding of traditional architectural culture and aesthetic inculcation in Meibei ancient village,but also for further research of Ji’an traditional residential architecture and art and inheritance and promotion of traditional national culture to provide reference.

Inheritance and Innovation of Regional Cultures in Architectural Designs of Yichang

Against the background of outstanding traditional Chinese culture and the innovation-drivendevelopment strategy, this study analyzed regional cultures of Yichang where ancient Ba and Chu culturesmet and blended, proposed regional architectural designs adapted to modern conditions, fully clarified thedesign concepts of “deeply exploring, highly condensing, making the past serve the present, inheriting andinnovating” through analyzing the design cases in many regional architectural projects. The paper aimedat further inheriting and developing the outstanding traditional Chinese cultures, and provided theoreticalreferences for future designs.

Application of Facade Decorative Arts of Traditional Architecture in Archaistic Blocks:A Case Study of Shengjinta Food Street in Nanchang City

Architectural decoration is a key demonstration of architectural styles, and traditional Chinese architectural forms originating from diversified architectural decorative arts. This paper explored facade decorative art of traditional architecture from the perspectives of carving art decoration, roof type, stylobate and railing, window and door type, and ground pavement, and also elaborated artistic methods of different forms in each aspect. On the basis of investigating Shengjinta historic and archaistic block, the paper also introduced application of decorative arts, and provided references for applying facade decorative arts of traditional architecture in the future archaistic blocks.

Understanding the Traditional Saudi Built Environment: The Phenomenon of Dynamic Core Concept and Forms

This study examines the traditional Saudi built environment and culture to uncover its rich architecture and to propose a new way of thinking about how to comprehend and value the past while also rebalancing the Kingdom’s future architectural identity. In that sense, the primary objective of this study is to examine the Core Concepts and Forms of traditional architecture, as well as their cultural connotations, in three regions of Saudi Arabia: the central, eastern, and western regions. Non-participant observation, ethnographic, and descriptive approaches were used in the study, which was based on a multi-dimensional comparative observational model. It was determined that the traditional Saudi built environment relied on forty Core Concepts and Forms that were divided into four categories: constant, semi-constant, semi-flexible, and flexible core forms to regulate the production process and maintain its continuity over centuries.

Research on Rural Landscape Design from the Perspective of Ecological Culture

Although rural landscape design brings convenience to farmers,there are many problems such as severe homogenization,lack of local culture and lack of comprehensive planning.The distant points of planning are refl ected by highlighting distinctive regional culture,advocating construction of ecological culture,and encouraging protection of traditional architecture.The problems in rural landscape design are settled by solving three agricultural problems and promoting the development of rural tourism,so as to achieve the coordinated development of rural economy and culture.

Fengshui Theory in Environmental Management of Qingyun Temple in Yuyang District

Fengshui, one of the important factors in the layout of Chinese traditional buildings, runs through activities related to traditional Chinese architecture. In order to better interpret and reflect the relationship between traditional buildings and the surrounding natural environment, Fengshui theory is moderately applied when it comes to an environmental improvement project, so as to make the whole design more unified and the sub-design more sound. Therefore, buildings are more coordinated with the overall environment, and the essence of "culture of harmoniousness" of Chinese traditional architecture is reflected.

Spatial characteristics of defensive traditional architecture in multiethnic village of Guangxi:Case studies of Mozhuang Village and Guxietun Village

Defensive traditional architecture research is critical to the understanding of the ethnic history and multiethnic villages.Currently,there are few studies on the combination of traditional architecture and multiethnicity,and most of the defensive traditional buildings in multiethnic villages of Guangxi are facing the plight of being destroyed and abandoned.The aim of this research is to identify the spatial characteristics,commonalities,and differences of Guangxi’s defensive traditional architecture with Mozhuang Village and Guxietun Village as the examples,in order to preserve the architectural and ethnic components of these villages.This research uses the four research methods:literature review,field research,observation and space syntax analysis,and it summarizes the three results from the five aspects:plan,elevation,construction material,masonry and decoration.Results showed that the spatial characteristics are dominated by the ethnic group with the higher technological,cultural or economic level,and there are both commonalities and differences in defensive traditional architecture in multiethnic villages.Based on the three study results,this research proposes some overall suggestions toward traditional villages and architecture improvement in ethnic areas.

Study on the adaptability of traditional architecture in agricultural heritage sites after tourism intervention—a case study of Huzhou Digang Food Street in China

Traditional architecture in agricultural heritage sites(AHSs)embodies the livelihood of local communities and residents,which is an important part of the AHS.However,with the intervention of tourism,some of the traditional architecture in AHSs has gradually transformed into simple use for tourism,without refecting the cultural connotations of agricultural heritage systems,as well as the farming wisdom of the AHS.This paper takes Digang Food Street in Huzhou,China as an example,which is in the core protection area of the Huzhou mulberry-dyke and fsh-pond system,combining comparative analysis and geographical system analysis to explore the adaptive transformation in decoration,structure,spatial layout and functional form of buildings after the development of the tourism industry.The dynamic relationship among traditional architecture,sustainable development of tourism and conservation of agriculture heritage is also analysed,expecting to provide some experience and reference for the conservation of other AHSs.

Studies on sustainable features of vernacular architecture in different regions across the world:A comprehensive synthesis and evaluation

Due to the increasing pressure brought by recent global environmental problems,building designers are embracing regionalism and the knowledge of traditional structures,arguing that these structures are energy efficient and highly sustainable.We observe clear evidence of the increasing interest in vernacular architecture among the research community.This study therefore aims to clarify the contents and issues raised in the studies on vernacular architecture and the knowledge and recommendations that can be derived from them.A database of the research is established by collecting many studies from primary sources.Obtained data is carefully refined and categorized into a table where synthesized information is introduced.The results of this study show an uneven geographic and climatic distribution of the studies;the trend in selecting research objectives and research objects;the choice of research methods with a clear shift towards quantitative research methods,and the generic findings from the database of the research.These results can support diverse inquiries about vernacular architecture across the world and be used as a resource or an orientation to support numerous subsequent studies.

Where Did the Wood Go？ Rethinking the Problematic Role of Wood in Wood-Like Mimicry

This paper explores fangmugou （＂imitating the mode of building with wood＂）, a comprehensive and longstanding architectural leitmotif reflective of the socio-cultural environment of China. Whether carved in stone, molded in clay, or cast in metal fangmugou continuously serves to visually confn＇m and ratify the significance of wood as the primary building material in Chinese architectural history. By peeling offthe successive layers of distortion between model and replica, this paper uncovers the traces of wood embedded infangmugou, and deciphers the visual and symbolic language that evolved out of the physical properties of wood, even as the final product transcends materiality by adapting to new media.
