To estimate the angle of arrivals (AOA) of wideband chirp sources, a new timo-frequency algorithm is proposed. In this method, virtual sensors are constructed based on the fact that the steering vectors of wideband chirp signals are linear and vary with time. And the randon Wignersville distribution (RWVD) of real sensors and virtual sensors are calculated to yield the new time-invariable steering vectors, furthermore, the noise and cross terms are suppressed. In addition, the multiple chirp signals are selected by their time-frequency points. The cost of computation is lower than the common AOA estimation methods of wideband sources due to nonrequirement of frequency focusing, interpolating and matrix decomposition, including subspace decomposition. Under the lower signal noise ratio (SNR) condition, the proposed method exhibits better precision than the method of frequency focusing (FF). The proposed method can be further applied to nonuniform linear array (NLA) since it is not confined to the array geometry. Simulation results illustrate the efficacy of the proposed method. 展开更多

This paper presents an approximation of maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for localizing a source based on AOA measurements. By introducing an intermediate variable, the nonlinear equations relating AOA estimates can be transformed into a set of equations which are linear in the unknown parameters. It is an approximate realization of the MLE. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the previous contribution. 展开更多

This paper presents a dual-band planar antenna array for ISM band applications (2.4 GHz and 2.45 GHz). This antenna is proposed for indoor applications and enables adaptive beamforming and angle of arrival (AOA) estimation. An adaptive beamforming algorithm is applied for a planar antenna array, which is able to steer its main beam and nulls in azimuth and elevation planes over a wide frequency band. Planar antenna array operates as a spatial filter in 3D space, processing the received signals with weighting schemes. A planar antenna array is designed for AOA estimation in azimuth and elevation planes by using MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) based on subspace algorithm. The Base Station (BS) equipped with this planar antenna is preferred to be at the center position on the room ceiling to cover all sectors of the room. It is designed to use four directional triangular elements arranged to form a square planar antenna array. Planar antenna with four elliptical slotted triangular elements (PAFESTE) is used to obtain optimal directivity in four directions in azimuth plane with specific orientation of 30? in elevation plane. A localization algorithm using distance and angle information is proposed in wireless sensor networks. Assuming that node axial orientations are unknown, all angles are measured to calculate the angle differences between two nodes viewed by the third one. Then, localization problems are formulated as convex optimization ones and all geometric relationships among different nodes in the communication range are transformed into linear or quadratic constraints. If all measurements are accurate, the localization problem can be formulated as linear programming (LP). Otherwise, by incorporating auxiliary variables, it can be regarded as quadratic programming (QP). Simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

Classical localization methods use Cartesian or Polar coordinates, which require a priori range information to determine whether to estimate position or to only find bearings. The modified polar representation (MPR) unifies near-field and farfield models, alleviating the thresholding effect. Current localization methods in MPR based on the angle of arrival (AOA) and time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements resort to semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and Gauss-Newton iteration, which are computationally complex and face the possible diverge problem. This paper formulates a pseudo linear equation between the measurements and the unknown MPR position,which leads to a closed-form solution for the hybrid TDOA-AOA localization problem, namely hybrid constrained optimization(HCO). HCO attains Cramér-Rao bound (CRB)-level accuracy for mild Gaussian noise. Compared with the existing closed-form solutions for the hybrid TDOA-AOA case, HCO provides comparable performance to the hybrid generalized trust region subproblem (HGTRS) solution and is better than the hybrid successive unconstrained minimization (HSUM) solution in large noise region. Its computational complexity is lower than that of HGTRS. Simulations validate the performance of HCO achieves the CRB that the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) attains if the noise is small, but the MLE deviates from CRB earlier. 展开更多

In this paper, a generalized three-dimensional(3D) scattering channel model for macrocellular land mobile environments is considered. This model simultaneously describes angular arrival of multi-path signals in the azimuth and elevation planes in an environment where uniformly distributed scatterers are assumed to be present in hemispheroids around the base station(BS) and mobile station(MS). Using this channel model, we first derive the closed-form expression for the joint and marginal probability density functions of the angle-of-arrival and time-of-arrival measured at the BS and the MS corresponding to the azimuth and elevation angles. Next, we derive an expression for the Doppler spectral distribution caused by motion of the MSs. Furthermore, we analyze the performance of multiple-input multiple-output antenna systems numerically. The results show that the proposed 3D scattering channel model performs better than previously proposed two-dimensional(2D) models for indoor and outdoor environments. We compare the results with previous scattering channel models and measurement results to validate the generalizability of our model. 展开更多

The measurement is achieved by estimating the differential frequency of a two-tone signal output by a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator and an additional asymmetry Mach–Zehnder interferometer. Experiments show that the AOA and the chirp rate are measured simultaneously, with an AOA measurement error of ?0.1° at an signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of 9.6 d B.When the SNR is-10.4 d B, the AOA error is ?1.3°, and the chirp rate, measured as 210.2 ? 1.5 Hz∕ps, has a standard deviation of 0.7%. The measured chirp rate agrees well with the real LFM signal. 展开更多

Two antenna arrays are settled at the fixed station (FS) to receive the UWB signal from mobile terminal (MT), one FS is enough for the proposed scheme to track the MT. The UWB multipath detection algorithm for time difference of arrival (TDOA) estimation is presented and TDOA is thus adopted to estimate angle of arrival (AOA), avoiding the synchronization and complicated beamforming for AOA. The impacts of localization errors, concluding multipath and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) errors are simulated for the proposed track scheme. It is demonstrated that the simulation curve can match the real target moving, and the feasibility of the proposed scheme is proved. 展开更多

In this paper,by utilizing the angle of arrivals(AOAs) and imprecise positions of the sensors,a novel modified Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to solve the source localization problem is proposed.Conventional source localization algorithms,like Gauss-Newton algorithm and Conjugate gradient algorithm are subjected to the problems of local minima and good initial guess.This paper presents a new optimization technique to find the descent directions to avoid divergence,and a trust region method is introduced to accelerate the convergence rate.Compared with conventional methods,the new algorithm offers increased stability and is more robust,allowing for stronger non-linearity and wider convergence field to be identified.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm improves the typical methods in both speed and robustness,and is able to avoid local minima. 展开更多

A high altitude platform station (HAPS) based communications scenario for providing Intemet access and broadband multimedia services to the passengers on board of a high speed train (traveling up to 300km/h) is proposed. Regarding the addressed scenario, when the propagation link between HAPS and train is blocked by obstacles, a three-dimensional (3-D) geometrical single cylinder spatial-temporal channel model is presented, in which closed form, mathematically tractable space-time correlation functions are obtained. It shows that the correlation functions determined by the 3-D model are of significant difference with those of the conventional 2-D model. Based on the analysis model, the paper derives a realized simulation model using sum-of-sinusoids approach, and applies method of equal areas (MEA) and modified method of equal areas (MMEA) to determine the model parameters. The fitting performance of the simulation model with the analysis one is evaluated by two means-square error (MSE) performance criteria. Finally, numerical simulation results verify the mathematical analysis conclusion, when N ≥21, simulation model has an excellent fitness with the analysis one. 展开更多

This paper presents an empirical study of the uplink and downlink azimuth angle of arrival(AoA)in an urban micro(UMi)scenario at 28 GHz.At present,most UMi measurements are conducted in the downlink and then the uplink situation is inferred assuming channel reciprocity.Although the channel correlation coefficient of the uplink and downlink can be as high as 0.8,this does not mean that they are the same.Only a real uplink measurement can accurately describe its channel conditions,and this is what this study does.A receiver equipped with a rotatable horn antenna is mounted at the base station and the user terminal,respectively,in simulating the uplink and downlink.To improve the angular resolution,we extract the multipath components(MPCs)using the space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization algorithm.Also,a spatial lobe approach is used to cluster the MPCs in the power angular spectrum.By matching MPCs with objects in the environment,we find that direct propagation and first-order reflections are dominant in line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight cases.By comparing our measurement with those in standard channel models,we verify that the AoA of clusters follows a Gaussian distribution in the uplink and downlink.In addition,a two-dimensional Gaussian distribution for ray AoA and power is established to reflect their correlation. 展开更多
