In order to solve the problem of asymmetric large deformation of high-stress soft rock crossing roadway under complex geological conditions in deep mines, taking the 2# total return airway of 76.2# section of Wuyang Coal Mine as the engineering background, the causes of asymmetric deformation and failure of soft rock crossing roadway in deep mines were summarized and analyzed by means of field investigation, theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, and the asymmetric high-efficiency support technology with large row spacing was studied. The results show that the lithology of roadway strata is the main cause of asymmetric deformation and failure of roadway. The shape change of roadway is not the main influencing factor of asymmetric deformation of roadway, but for the control of roadway surrounding rock, the straight wall semi-circular arch roadway is better than the rectangular roadway. The field industrial test shows that after adopting the new support design scheme, the displacement of the roof and floor of the roadway is reduced by 86.39% compared with the original support design scheme, and the displacement of the two sides of the roadway is reduced by 86.05% compared with the original support design scheme, which can ensure the normal and safe production of the roadway during the service period, and provide reference for the support design of other similar geological conditions. 展开更多

Based on the coordinates, velocities and their error estimations of 595 GPS, SLR and VLBI stations issued by IERS in March 2001, the current asymmetrical deformation of the Earth is studied. The results show that the northern hemisphere of the Earth is undergoing compressive deformation, and the southern hemisphere is undergoing extensional deformation with the equator as the boundary. If the longitude line of 90°E and 90°W is taken as the boundary, the Pacific hemisphere (with 180° as its central longitude) is undergoing compressive deformation, and the Atlantic hemisphere (with 0° as its central longitude) is undergoing extensional deformation. The deformation patterns indicate again that the Earth is undergoing some dual-asymmetrical deformation. Moreover, taking 6 366.740 km as the standard mean curvature radius of the Earth, the velocity of volume change calculated from the data of space geodesy is 6.65x10-(11)m3/a. 展开更多

Geodetic observations have shown that there exist large differences in the viscosity of the deep lithosphere across many large strike-slip faults.Heterogeneity in lithospheric viscosity structure can influence the efficiency of stress transfer and thus may have a significant effect on the earthquake cycle.Until now,how the lateral viscosity variation across strike-slip faults affects the earthquake cycles is still not well understood. Here,we investigate the effects of across-strike viscosity variation on long-term earthquake behaviors with a three-dimensional strike-slip fault model. Our model is a quasi-static model which is controlled by the slip-weakening friction law and powerlaw rheology.By comparing with the reference case,we find that low viscosity on one side of the fault results in a smaller rupture area but with a higher Coulomb stress drop on the ruptured fault region. In addition, low viscosity also leads to a small Coulomb stress accumulation rate. These combined effects increase the earthquake recurrence interval by approximately 10%and the earthquake moments by about 30%when the low viscosity is related to a geothermal gradient of 30 K/km.In addition,across-strike viscosity variation causes asymmetric interseismic ground surface deformation rate.As the viscosity contrast increases, the difference in the interseismic ground surface deformation rate between the two sides of the fault gradually increases, although the asymmetric feature is not pronounced. This asymmetry of interseismic ground deformation rate across a strike-slip fault is supposed to result in asymmetric coseismic deformation if the long-term plate motion velocity is invariant. As a result, this kind of asymmetry of interseismic deformation may influence the evaluation of potential earthquake hazards along large strike-slip faults with lateral viscosity contrast. 展开更多

The problems on the non-uniqueness and stability of a two-family fiber- reinforced anisotropic incompressible hyper-elastic square sheet under equibiaxial tensile dead loading are examined within the framework of finite elasticity. For a two-family fiber-reinforced square sheet, which is in-plane symmetric and subjected to the in-plane symmetric tension in dead loading on the edges, three symmetrically deformed configu- rations and six asymmetrically deformed configurations are possible for any values of the loading. Moreover, another four bifurcated asymmetrically deformed configurations are possible for the loading beyond a certain criticM value. The stability of all the solutions is discussed in comparison with the energy of the sheet. It is shown that only one of the symmetric solutions is stable when the loading is less than the critical value. However, this symmetric solution will become unstable when the loading is larger than the critical value, while one of the four bifurcated asymmetric solutions will be stable. 展开更多

Based on the rigid-plastic finite element method(FEM), the shear stress field of deformation region for high manganese austenite steel during hot asymmetrical rolling process was analyzed. The influences of rolling parameters, such as the velocity ratio of upper to lower rolls, the initial temperature of workpiece and the reduction rate, on the shear deformation of three nodes in the upper, center and lower layers were discussed. As the rolling parameters change, distinct shear deformation appears in the upper and lower layers, but the shear deformation in the center layer appears only when the velocity ratio is more than 1.00, and the absolute value of the shear stress in this layer is changed with rolling parameters. A mathematical model which reflected the change of the maximal absolute shear stress for the center layer was established, by which the maximal absolute shear stress for the center layer can be easily calculated and the appropriate rolling technology can be designed. 展开更多

The construction of coal mines often encounters deep composite soft rock roadways, which is characterized by significant deformation and poor stability. To deeply study the failure mechanism and large deformation challenges of a composite strata roadway in deep and soft rock masses,a numerical model of 3DEC tetrahedral blocks was established based on the method of rock quality designation(RQD).The results showed that original support cannot prevent asymmetric failure and large deformation due to the adverse geological environment and unsuitable support design.According to the failure characteristics,a coupling support of“NPR bolt/cable+mesh+shotcrete+steel pipe”was proposed to control the stability of the surrounding rock. The excellent mechanical properties of large deformation(approximately 400 mm)and high constant resistance force(bolt with 180 k N;cable with 350 k N)were evaluated by the tensile tests. The numerical results showed that the maximum deformation was minimized to 243 mm,and the bearing capacity of the surrounding rock of the roadway was enhanced. The field test results showed that the maximum deformation of the surrounding rock was 210 mm,and the forces of the NPR bolt and cable were stable at approximately 180 k N and 350 k N,respectively. This demonstrated the effectiveness of the coupling support with the NPR bolt and cable, which could be a guiding significance for the safety control of large deformation and failure in deep composite soft rock roadways. 展开更多

It is of great significance to study the water absorption and expansion of cells, which are essential for the growth and life regulation of plants, not only for understanding the complex life phenomena of plants, but also for the manufacture of biomimetic materials. The main purpose of this study is to shed light on the mechanism of a novel coiling phenomenon of the split dandelion scape soaked in water and the high concentration mannitol solution. We discovered that the difference between water absorption/dehydration capacities of inner cells and lateral cells of the split dandelion scape generates asymmetric expansion/contraction between inner and lateral layers, resulting two opposite coiled patterns.Analogous to the deformable hypothesis of the thermal expansion model, the water absorption-induced cell expansion model was proposed to explain the coiling process of the split dandelion scape. Both the simulation and experimental results revealed that the coiling of dandelion scape is strongly depended on the response of cells to the stimulation of the solution environment.Showing considerable potential load bearing capacity of plants, the coiling phenomenon can be an inspiration to the designs of soft robots and bionic sensors for humidity control. 展开更多
