Turkey’s automotive industry has begun to occur at a much earlier date compared to other developing countries, through licensing agreements to establish automotive industrial facilities,by importing a kind of technology.Attempts have been made in order to produce the domestic automobile road providing sectoral developments could enter another technology pathway. Moreover, the inventor of a very early date in the Fordist production system, such as 1929 by Ford Motor Company with the license agreement,as if he could provide for setting up production facilities in Istanbul’s company, this bad experience has refrained for years from entering as a manufacturer Ford Motor Turkey market. Thus, while Turkey is an attractive market for car production,on the other hand, sufficient improvement over time in the production of trucks and other automotive products, such as buses has not been achieved. The 1929 experience seems to have been effective in terms of Turkey.Because,it was necessary to wait until 1971 for OYAK and TOFAŞto establish automobile assembly facility with license agreements. With the start of production of two automotive industry facilities, there has been a significant increase in sectoral production figures, but this increase trend has not been sufficiently supported by the government through the incentive system and in the late 1970s the production of the automotive industry has declined. For the first time in 1961,efforts were made to produce a completely domestic automobile, although the prototype of the revolutionary car was successfully produced, mass production could not be started.Subsequently, the production of the Anadol automobile for the second time was tried by means of technology transfer from multiple sources and the serial production of this automobile continued for a while. However, since fiber glass bodywork was used instead of hair bodywork and export opportunities could not be found, production was stopped completely in the end of 1980s.In the 1980s,automobile production continued in two assembly plants and product diversification was carried out to increase the production volume. In the 1990s,three new assembly facilities,Honda,Toyota and Hyundai, were established and the number of assembly production facilities in the country increased to five and technology loyalty based on technology imports continued.Until 2014,the automotive industry continued to consist of five automobile assembly plants and other automotive products assembly plants. In 2015,it was announced to the public that a new domestic car prototype was produced. It was announced that the project will start mass production in 2019.However,it was determined that the prototype would be re-manufactured at the end of 2019 by making changes in the project and that it would be possible to start mass production in 2022.Thus,it is understood that the efforts to start mass production since 2015 can be concluded in 2022,i.e.7 years after the first prototype was produced. It can 161produce prototypes in a short period of four months in Turkey in 1961,as evidenced by an indication of the dependency on a long time wasting which is not technology importation pathway, such as five years. How to break the path of devotion demonstrates that it is a difficult job.Path dependency is thought to result from the education system. 展开更多

In the automotive industry, lean project</span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">s</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> and innovation creation come to life by being updated under the control of systematic interdisciplinary process flows. The lean product development process that changes the shell, defined under the light of the variables created by the competitive conditions, is today measured by the value flow efficiency and the global market spread of the final product. Consequently, the lean product development approach, which aims to identify and purify all the wastes that do none value or create value to the system or cause burdens in the new product development process, is shaped by step-by-step approvals in the flow. In the main automotive industry company practices within the scope of the research (3 national, 3 international), the beginning of the concept of lean in design is to define and optimize the steps in the product development process under the value stream map. Therefore, the product function for which the customer has paid for, the function of the new product or the physical structure used to meet the needs in question, the comfort, life, experience, innovations of the scope that constitute the new product concept are planned and verified and implemented in the simplified automotive design stages at the beginning of the lean product development process. In this research, initial automotive design objectives and stages are at the focal point of the innovation and added value creation brought by the concept of </span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">“</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">lean</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">”</span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> approach. The research is modelled on the determination of steps that do not create added value together with the points where the flow circuits’ or stems, the process is devalued, the interdisciplinary holistic studies intensify, the information and delay begin and end in the sequential and simultaneous design validation step transition stages, which are examined under the lean approach. As a visual and virtual tool that enables the elaboration of nominal values such as the total duration of the design verification stages and the influence of interdisciplinary stakeholders or the test level of the product design with the new product added, it reveals the value flow or losses. Hence research;from innovation creation and new product design steps, which constitute the initial stages of the lean product development process, to design verification analysis, the efficiency of the automotive company processes within the scope of the research has been measured by comparing using lean automotive design techniques, methods and concepts. 展开更多

It is possible to say that the automotive industries of Brazil and Turkey have developed as assembly industries and showed great similarities in this context. In the 1980s,in line with the development direction of the world’s automotive industry,Turkey tried to make the country’s investment environment attractive for foreign international companies to produce in their country. We can say that while Brazil created the state incentive system in order to attract foreign investments to its country since the 1950s,it tried to increase its dose with the 1990s.Although,like Turkey,Brazil has thought of producing local cars, the difference between Turkey and Brazil is that it has considered exporting and was able to export not only to South America, but also to African countries.Another difference of Brazil is that it has implemented incentive policies for the automotive sector and has been able to rearrange its incentive elements according to changing conditions.Turkey,on the other hand, has decided to return from the policy of attracting foreign investments to its country since 2006,and in 2011,it was decided to produce domestic automobiles. As of December 2019,a prototype of the domestic car was produced by Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Group and work for mass production began. Thus, the problem of adaptation to electric vehicle production was tried to be overcome by moving to a new phase in the way of technology development. This approach was used by the South Korean automotive industry in the 1980s and it was successful and technology development capability was gained in a short time.In order to see the success of the application of this method in Turkey,it is thought that it is necessary to wait for the result of the domestic automobile project.Brazil,on the other hand, was able to rank high in world automotive industry production with its sectoral incentive policies that can adapt to changing conditions and its structure that considers exports from the past, while Turkey lagged behind. 展开更多

It is possible to say that the automotive industries of Argentina,Brazil, and Turkey are each developed as an assembly industry and show great similarities to each other in this context.Since the 1980s,the development direction of the world automotive industry has been trying to make the country’s investment environment attractive for foreign international companies to produce in their countries in all three countries. However, with the 1980s,their adaptation to the flexible production system and other new technologies being implemented in the Japanese automotive industry took time, meaning that the learning time took a long time, and local contribution rates fell. This has made the slow development mechanism that has been going on since the past work even slower, and they have suffered the punishment for not being able to develop technologies in all three countries by falling behind in the automotive industry. In the 2000s,with technological advances in electric vehicles, when the use of electric vehicles began to become widespread,we can say that all three countries began to experience a new adaptation problem in the automotive industry more severely. In Turkey, this problem was experienced with all its weight along with the other country;in 2006,the policy of attracting foreign investment to the automotive industry was partially abandoned and the approach to producing domestic cars began to be considered, and in 2011,a decision was made to produce domestic cars.As of December 2019,a prototype of the domestic car has been produced by the automobile initiative group of Turkey and work has started for mass production. Thus, the problem of adaptation to the production of electric vehicles was desired to be overcome by moving to a new stage in the path of technology development. The South Korean automotive industry used this approach in the 1980s and was successful and soon gained the ability to develop technology. In order to see the success of the application of this method in Turkey,it is thought that it is necessary to wait for the result of the domestic car project. 展开更多

The function of decision-making in the management of new product development and vehicle design activities is achieved by defining, constructing or evaluating the outcome-oriented, and most effective steps from the sub-steps that form this basic process. The choice of the sub-stages of the basic process or the decision of how to do a job gains importance in terms of the efficiency of the firm’s activities. Therefore, the decision making function is one of the basic elements involved in the formation and development of the basic processes that can comply with the market dynamics of firms. With the new product being developed, the selection, the current editing or the evaluation of the steps that make up the vehicle design activities for the automotive industry companies that exist and compete in the market, bring about significant gains. In the manufacturing industry, the design of the vehicle determines the market spread, while the competitive conditions are driven by the new or improved product decision. In both cases, the automotive industry firms must know the stages of the most appropriate vehicle design in their own right, and the steps of forming new project dynamics must be devised in this direction. In this study, the result oriented activity of the current vehicle design phases used in the automotive industry companies is determined and the order of importance of the stages is listed. For this purpose, under the same conditions of competition (the same market, the same class vehicles develops and manufactures), 4 in the automotive firm administration, a total of 40 employees (4 × 10 process manager) with the vehicle design was evaluated by determining the effectiveness of the use of the stage. At this stage, analytic hierarchy methods applied to each of the phases are explored in practice instead of the use of the significance level automotive company. Study of the vehicle design phase of the automotive industry: structure, process modifications or new project reveals the important values to be configured according to the size. 展开更多

In the automotive concept design stages, functionally positioning the newly introduced autonomous technologies or remodelling the vehicle accordingly and evaluating the steps or determining the workload together with the collaboration intensity in the current flow is the initial step for the entire process efficiency. Therefore, the main purpose of the research is to reveal the effects of the autonomous technologies, which are newly included in the automotive concept design stages in automotive manufacturing industry companies that continue their lives under heavy competition conditions, according to the order of importance. The objective of this research is to both increase the efficiency of automotive concept design stages and to determine the measurement of the effects of new autonomous vehicle technologies in practice. Under the AHP method used in the research, the automotive concept design stages constitute the alternatives in the order of importance of the working structure, as well as the application variables of autonomous vehicle technologies, the criteria of the mathematical model. In addition, the research method modelled in the study, under the AHP mathematical model, reveals the performances or order of importance of the automotive concept design stages under autonomous technologies. Therefore, the resulting process performances constitute important inputs for efficiency and optimization studies under different research approaches. When the results of the study are examined, due to the high level of influence on the new vehicle concept design performance in automotive industry companies, the adaptation or application steps of autonomous vehicle technologies create new needs in the whole process. The determination of innovation creation clusters in the design process steps or the selection of the density of new technology adaptation in the stages and the order of importance provide a competitive advantage along with optimization in the basic functions of the automotive industry companies. However, the determination of new workload clusters in the mentioned automotive concept design process steps or the effect of autonomous technologies in the design stages, selection, transfer from theory to practice, multiple conflicting criteria and uncertain parameters create a very complex situation. For all these reasons, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is one of the widely used multi-criteria decision-making tools, is considered as a suitable approach for creating such order of importance and solving problems. In this study, an AHP mathematical model was created that determines the workload clusters created by autonomous vehicle technology applications that have just begun to guide the automotive concept design process, which is the main function of automotive manufacturing industry companies. Therefore, in line with the innovations, changes and adequacy criteria created by the current automotive concept design stages in the new autonomous vehicle technology adaptation, a stage order of importance has been selected. 展开更多

It is possible to say that each of the Mexican and Turkish automotive industries is developed as an assembly industry and shows great similarities to each other within this framework. However, due to its geographical proximity, the role of US-based automotive companies in the formation of the Mexican automotive industry has become greater, while the Ford Motor company, which entered the US automotive industry in Turkey, was able to take part only with the initiatives of the Otosan company in the 1960s.Another feature of the 1960s is that there were efforts to manufacture domestic cars in Turkey.Since the 1980s,in line with the direction of development of the world automotive industry,Turkey has been trying to make the country’s investment environment attractive for foreign international companies to produce in their countries. In Mexico, even with the possibility of reaching new markets by providing 1990 regional agreements NAFTA ruling party of the Mexican automotive industry,we can say that U.S.firms were largely determined by the direction of development,Turkey’s automotive industry development direction of the company is determined by the first European, then we can say that companies are becoming more efficient in the Far East countries. On the other hand, the US Ford Motor company considered it sufficient to be involved in the Turkey directly.Turkey has decided to return from the policy of attracting foreign investments to its country since 2006,and in 2011 it was decided to produce domestic cars.As of December 2019,a prototype of a domestic car has been produced by the Automobile Enterprise Group of Turkey and work has begun on mass production. Thus, the problem of adaptation to the production of electric vehicles was decided to be overcome by moving to a new stage on the way to technology development. This approach was used by the South Korean automotive industry in the 1980s and was successful, and the ability to develop technology was acquired in a short time.In order to see the success of the application of this method in Turkey,it is thought that it is necessary to wait for the result of the domestic automobile project.Mexico’s policy of opening up more to foreign investments has been successful since the 1990s,and Mexico has become the most productive country in Latin America, surpassing Brazil in automotive industry production. 展开更多

New road transportation systems solutions create significant changes in existing automotive manufacturing industry products and technologies, from design to use. The conveniences within the framework of new approaches brought by autonomous vehicle technologies primarily make individuals transition from driver duty to passenger and high-comfort alternative travel technologies. Therefore, the research: defining the path followed by the autonomous vehicle technologies, which lead to the development of the said new life model and automotive products within the future fiction, in the stages of designing new concept vehicles in practice or measuring the effect on the processes constitute important values for the future prediction of this sector. In addition, the research has focused on the effects of interdisciplinary studies at the automotive concept design stages, which are at the beginning of today’s lean and new product development process, where innovation goals or technologies emerge with more concrete needs. New autonomous vehicle technologies and the main purpose of revealing the interdisciplinary studies created by new disciplines in the current automotive concept design stages make significant contributions to the optimization of the lean product development process and value creation. For this reason, the automotive manufacturing industry, which is on the eve of a major transformation with the said new autonomous vehicle technologies;determining the needs or sustainable position in the flow of digital perception and orientation systems;determining value creation criteria related to the functioning of automotive concept design processes or new acceptance criteria through one-on-one interviews in the field;constitutes the focus of the research. The research has examined the new interdisciplinary studies and effects of new autonomous vehicle technologies in the automotive concept design phase, which is the first step of lean product development, with local and global automotive industry company comparisons in operation. Therefore, the differences and similarities between the concept design stages of global automotive companies that are both co-developers of new autonomous vehicle technologies and manufacturing automotive products and local automotive manufacturing companies that only assemble them determine the future competitive structuring of the industry. 展开更多

Due to global completion in the automotive industry, productivity improvement is vital in these industries. In automotive assembly lines, productivity loses are attributed to bottlenecks, long processing time in workstations and underutilization of resources. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the performance of the production system, analyze the bottlenecks in different parts of the workstation, their capacity and constraints. Also, develop different scenarios for improvement. To achieve this objective, a simulation model was developed using Arena Software to analyze bottlenecks in each workstation. The analysis was based on the queue in the system to identify the longest queue in workstations. After analysis of the assembly line, the result showed that the longest waiting time observed is cab preparation and drop, bumper, engine subassembly fitment of soundproof with respective numbers 14.4, 13.97, 13.00, 13.70 minutes, with respective average number waiting of 24.87%, 17.57%, 25.91% and 23.39%. Using different scenarios for the improvement of the production line showed that the waiting time observed in-cab preparation and drop, bumper, engine subassembly, fitment of soundproof has greatly reduced for the two workstations added and three operators respectively from 14.4 to 3.97 and 3.1, from 13.97 to 3.77 and 2.48, from 13.00 to 4.21 and 3.83, from 13.70 to 0.00 and 2.37 minutes, with respective average number waiting from 24.87% to 5% and 2%, from 17.57% to 5% and 0.9%, from 25.91% to 5% and 4%, and from 23.39% to 0.00% and 3%. To conclude the research study was able to demonstrate the modelling approach using simulation for analysis of a production line assembly. The contribution of this research was so enormous, this study has improved the output production up to 144%. 展开更多

The global automotive industry is giving a difficult and common test in order to create advanced life models in the near future plans or scenarios that include current autonomous vehicle technologies. Therefore, the main purpose of the research is to comparatively evaluate the impact of autonomous vehicle technologies, which are newly included in the automotive manufacturing industry under sustainable competition, on lean product development processes, value acquisition and preservation, in different organizational structures in the approach. Although mergers or brand acquisitions in the global automotive industry create joint R & D (Research Development) or joint new P & D (Product Development) process structures for the development of autonomous vehicle technologies, heavy competition continues in the market. These new processes create different needs for the merger and partnership of the renewed traffic infrastructures under national and international regulations, and for the implementation of the new autonomous life model. Firm and brand marriages, mergers or acquisitions in today’s automotive industry have ensured the high diffusion of lean product development processes under the stream of value creation or preservation carried out specific to the company under competition. Brand mergers in automotive industry companies struggling to survive under high competition create new work disciplines, professions, and engineering flow steps in lean product development processes. However, lean product development processes driven by technological innovation under simplification have resulted in the integration of parts and systems within the autonomous vehicle design structure, as well as creating new interdisciplinary value streams or different stakeholders. Therefore, the research revealed the significant effects of lean product development processes on the value stream in the automotive industry, on the mixed and lean product development process structure formed by new or existing vehicle systems (conventional vehicle) under the penetration of each existing and new discipline. This research compares the efficient operation steps of the process stakeholders in the autonomous vehicle design parts or systems containing innovation and new technology together with the value stream in the lean product development process, and the new process stakeholder’s business-oriented global and local automotive industry companies. New autonomous vehicle technologies, together with their unique software, hardware and development analysis, have been involved in the lean product development process with their interdisciplinary studies or expertise. Therefore, the study firstly focused on the technologies in environmental use together with the new basic features of autonomous vehicles, and then examined in depth the new or existing disciplines and interdisciplinary basic structure that these innovations affect under the value stream in the lean product development process. In addition, micro-level results and recommendations were shared, shedding light on how autonomous vehicle levels will create changes in the new product development process. 展开更多
