AIM: To evaluate the effect of amniotic membrane loaded with 5-fluorouracil poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA) nanoparticles(5-FU-NPs) in the surgical outcomes of experimental trabeculectomy in rabbits.METHODS: Thirt...AIM: To evaluate the effect of amniotic membrane loaded with 5-fluorouracil poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA) nanoparticles(5-FU-NPs) in the surgical outcomes of experimental trabeculectomy in rabbits.METHODS: Thirty-two New Zealand white rabbits were randomly categorized into four groups with 8 rabbits in each group. Group 1, the control group, performed traditional trabeculectomy without adjuvant treatment.While the experimental groups performed compound trabeculectomy with different implantations including amniotic membrane(group 2), 5-FU-NPs(group 3) and amniotic membrane loaded with 5-FU-NPs(group 4).Clinical evaluations including IOP measurement and filtration bleb analysis were performed in all groups postoperatively.RESULTS: There is no significant difference of mean IOP in all groups at first 7d after surgery. While at P14,mean IOPs of experimental group 2(9.8 ±2.1 mm Hg),groups 3(8.9 ±2.8 mm Hg) and group 4(7.6 ±2.3 mm Hg)were significantly reduced compared to control group(12.4 ±2.6 mm Hg; n =8, P 【0.05). At P21, mean IOPs of groups 3(11.7±3.2 mm Hg) and group 4(9.9±1.6 mm Hg)were significantly decreased compare to control group(17.9±1.6 mm Hg) and group 2(16.6 ±2.8 mm Hg; n =8,P 【0.05). At P28, mean IOPs of groups 3(13.8±3.3 mm Hg)and group 4(10.6 ±2.0 mm Hg) were also significantly reduced compare to control group(19.4±2.3 mm Hg) and group 2(18.5 ±2.4 mm Hg; n =8, P 【0.05). Meanwhile mean IOP of group 4 is significantly decreased compared to group 3 at P28(n =8, P 【0.05). Survival analysis of functional filtration blub in all groups revealed the longest survival time in group 4(24.9±5.1d) compared to that in group 3(20.6 ±4.3d), group 2(15.0 ±5.2d) and control group(10.1±5.7d).CONCLUSION: Amniotic membrane loaded with 5-FuNPs may function as an effective anti-scarring implant and provides improved long-term surgical outcomes for experimental trabeculectomy in rabbits.展开更多

By the use of these seeds, thin ZSM-5 zeolite membranes ...Template-free nanosized ZSM-5 seeds with an average size of 15 nm were prepared from a synthesis solution with the composition 12Na2O∶100SiO2∶2Al2O3∶2500H2O. By the use of these seeds, thin ZSM-5 zeolite membranes were prepared on the outer surface of a porous α-alumina tube with a pore size of 2 μm in a gel system by varying-concentration synthesis with organic-free template. The first composition synthesis sol-gel was the same as seeds of molar composition and the second one was 12Na2O∶100SiO2∶2Al2O3∶5000H2O at 180 ℃ for 10 h, respectively. XRD shows that the film consists of well-crystallized ZSM-5 zeolite. SEM investigation indicats that the zeolite films on the supports are defect free and the film thickness is approximately 8 μm. The permeances for H2, N2, CH4 and CO2 are 8.94×10-7, 3.27×10-7, 3.9×10-7, 3.14×10-7 and 0.874×10-7 mol·m2·s-1·Pa-1, respectively. The ideal selectivity of membrane at room temperature for H2/CO2, H2/N2, H2/CH4 are 2.84, 2.73 and 2.29, respectively.展开更多

The results shows that the CA composite membrane has a high separation performance (flux Jmenthanol =350g.m-2.h-1 and separation factor a > 400) for methanol/C5 mixtures, and the pervaporation characteristics of MMA-AA-BA copolymer membranes changes with the ratio of copolymer. For CA/poly(MMA-co-AA) blend membrane, the pervaporation performance is improved in comparison with CA or poly(MMA-co-AA) membrane. From the experiment of CA/PVB blend membranes for methanol/MTBE mixture, it is found that the compatibility of blends may affect the separation features of blend membrane.展开更多

METHODS: Complement activation was determined by the meas...AIM: To study complement activation in 46 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and ascites but no spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) and 10 healthy controls. METHODS: Complement activation was determined by the measurement of soluble membrane attack complex (sMAC) concentrations in ascites and plasma. In patients, metabolic liver function was determined by the galactose elimination capacity and the clinical status assessed by the Model of End-Stage Liver Disease and Child-Pugh scores. RESULTS: Ascites sMAC levels were markedly higherthan in the corresponding plasma sample (median (range): 596 (170 - 1519) vs 160 (77 - 848) μg/L; P < 0.01). Ascites sMAC levels correlated positively with liver status. There was no relationship between ascites sMAC and leukocyte count. No relationship between ascites sMAC and blood C-reactive protein, albumin or neutrophile count was found. Plasma sMAC concentrations were slightly higher in patients than in controls [130 μg/L (70 - 204); P = 0.04]. Neither sMAC in ascites nor plasma was related to mortality. CONCLUSION: The increased sMAC concentration in ascites and plasma indicate an activation of the complement system in cirrhosis even in the absence of SBP. This was particularly evident in the peritoneal fluid and most marked in patients with preserved liver status. The high ascites sMAC levels may reflect transudation of membrane attack complexes from the liver. Whether this complement activation has any clinical implications remains to be clarified.展开更多

The properties...Different types of ABPBI (poly(2,5-benzimidazole)) membranes and polymer binders were evaluated to investigate the performance of MEAs for high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC). The properties of the prepared MEAs were evaluated and analyzed by polarization curve, electrochemistry impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and durability test. The results showed that MEA with modified ABPBI membrane (AM) has satisfactory performance and durability for fuel cell application. Compare to conventional PBI or Nafion binders, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) are more attractive as binders in the catalyst layer (CL) of gas diffusion electrode (GDE) for HT-PEMFC.展开更多
