Given the public concern over the safety of genetically modified (GM) technology and products, the article elaborated the safety regulatory and administration on agricultural GMOs in China. China has made a set of laws and regulations of GMO safety management and confirmed competent authorities with clear-cut responsibilities. According to the laws and regulations, GMO products before entering markets have to pass through safety evaluation, get production and processing permission and be labeled correctly. For the importation of GM products, China has set up an import approval system. In addition, China has established technical supportive systems, including safety evaluation specifications, trial specifications and criteria specifications. The existing regulatory system supervises and regulates all activities and work related to agri- cultural GMOs in China. 展开更多

Microgravity science is an important branch of space science. Its major objective is to study the laws of materials movement in microgravity,as well as to reveal the influence of gravity on the movement of materials in different gravity environments.Application researches relevant to these basic studies are also important contents of microgravity science. The advanced subjects,to some extent, reflect the ability of human beings to understand nature and the R&D level in this field in various countries. In this paper, the recent progress and the latest achievements of microgravity science and application researches in China aboard space platforms such as the Core Capsule Tianhe of the China Space Station(CSS)and satellites,as well as utilizing ground-based short-term microgravity facilities such as the Drop Tower Beijing and TUFF,are summarized, which cover the following sub-disciplines:microgravity fluid physics, microgravity combustion science, space materials science, space fundamental physics, space bio-technology,and relevant space technology applications. 展开更多

This urban slum is plagued by unsanitary conditions, such as high density, dust, mud, squalor, hazards, litter, and smell. As a result of these deplorable conditions, Umande Trust, a local non-governmental organization (NGO), has developed a new educational initiative using biotechnology to turn human waste into gas for cooking. This initiative supports Freire's (2000) theory pedagogy of the oppressed, which will serve as the theoretical framework, in which the people who have been oppressed and/or have had to endure the horrible conditions in which they live play an active role in their development to regain their humanity. Jacobson (2004) raised a critical question that will be the focal point of this study regarding development: "Who is better suited to help Africa determine her future" (p. 75). Using a qualitative case study design, the answer to this question will be answered in terms of Kibera specifically and its use of bio-technology as a sustainable development initiative. This study will also assess the use of communication in this approach. 展开更多
