The powder of nickel carbonyl,Cr2O3 and C were used as the original materials, and a hexagonal BN(h-BN) powder was added as a solid lubricant. The influence of sintering temperature, heating rate and holding time on the properties of Ni-Cr/BN were studied. The composition and microstructure of Ni-Cr/BN were analysed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and the optical microscopy(OM). The frictional behavior and hardness were measured with ring-block friction testing machine and Brinell hardness tester respectively. The results show that Ni-Cr is the matrix and a low-melting eutectic compound is the bonding phase in the composite. The porosity reaches 48% and the value of hardness reaches HB18 when the composite is fabricated at 1 100 ℃ for 1 h. Its wear rate is 7.44×10-5 g/min,and the average friction coefficient is 0.266. These properties make such composite suitable for use as self-lubricating material.展开更多

Cr microparticles are in a size range of 1-5 μm and Cr nanoparticles have an average size of 40 nm. The friction and the wear performance of the co-deposited Ni-Cr composite coatings were comparatively evaluated by sliding against Si3N4 ceramic balls under non-lubricated conditions. It is found that the incorporation of Cr particles enhances the microhardness and wear resistance of Ni coatings. The wear resistance of Ni composite coating containing Cr nanoparticles is higher than that of the Ni composite coating containing Cr microparticles with a comparable Cr particle content. The co-deposition of smaller nanometer Cr particles with Ni effectively reduces the size of Ni crystals and significantly increases the hardness of the composite coatings due to grain-refinement strengthening and dispersion-strengthening,resulting in a significant improvement of wear resistance of the Ni-Cr nanocomposite coatings.展开更多

The chemical composition of interfacial layer was tested. The generation mechanism and influence of interfacial layer on the composite were analyzed. The results indicated that the generation of interfacial layer is sensitive to temperature. Interfacial layer will generate rapidly when temperature reaches 500 ℃ or above. The interfacial layer is mainly composed of Al, Si, Cu, Fe, and Cr, element Ni distributes at the outward of the interfacial layer for the precipitate of Ni later than Si and Cu, and there is almost no diffusion of Ni during the solution treatment. During heat treatment process, unequal quantity changing of metal atom results in disperse or concentrated vacancies or holes near the matrix. The existence of interfacial layer will induce a decrease of compression strength and plasticity at room temperature and an increase of strength at higher temperature comparing with composite without interfacial layer.展开更多

The TiC/γ interface in as-cast sample is of coherent feature. Its orientation relationship is (020)γ//(220)TiC, [001]γ||[001]TiC. During the aging at 1473 K, the TiC/γ interface may dissolve in matrix and lamellar M23C6 compound may precipitate from γ-matrix.展开更多

The relationships between fatigue crack propagation rate and stress intensity factor are da/dN=4.2×10-c(△K)4 for the matrix alloy and da/dN=1.4×10-19(△K)c for the composite. The fatigue thresholds of the composite and mathe alloy are 78 and 3.2MPa.m1/2, respectively. Microcracks initiate at the intedece between titanium carbide particulate and austenite and then propagate in carkide particles. The fracture sudece of the composite shows a distinct transition from wavy and serated cleavage near the threshold regime to striation-type splitting in the stable fatigue crack propagation stage and to a veined morphology characteristic in unstable rapid region.展开更多

The experimental results show that the flow stress data are negatively correlated with temperature for temperature softening, and the strain rates sensitivity of this composite increases with elevating temperature. Based on the experimental data, Johnson-Cook, modified Johnson-Cook and Arrhenius constitutive models were established. The accuracy of these three constitutive models was analyzed and compared. The results show that the values predicted by Johnson-Cook model could not agree well with the experimental values. The prediction accuracy of Arrhenius model is higher than that of Johnson-Cook model but lower than that of the Modified Johnson-Cook model.展开更多
