Then it is safe to say that literary works play an effective role in terms of history teaching by carrying the features of a certain period in a nation's history with the realities depicted in them. On the contrary, depicting problems in literary works in terms of their socio-cultural and psychological effects on people and societies may produce a more effective history teaching then considering these problems in history books only in terms of their causes and effects. Especially the literary works centered on historical events generally serve as an integral part of history teaching. The best examples are the historical novels which are themed and plotted on a war-centered history. This paper undertakes to study the role of literature in communicating historical events and providing history teaching by considering one of the historical novels, namely "July 1941" by Grigory Baldanov.展开更多
