Base Flow Index Evaluation for Yom River,Thailand

The most controversial river in Thailand is the Yom River.It has not been modified by large dam because of several valuable natural resources.Therefore,the river is flooded in rainy season and very low flow in dry season.The low flow causes drought which is much more serious than flooding.The Yom River Basin management is only way to circumvent the low flow problem by studying base flow index(BFI).Base flow analyses for 8 gauging stations along the river were performed by 2 techniques i.e.graphical and modified U.K.Institute of Hydrology(MIH).The mean BFI results from graphical and MIH are 0.37(0.05)and 0.45(0.12).The result from graphical is more reasonable due to its lower standard deviation.BFI values from MIH vary with watershed area which may result from the using of fixing value of N-day at 10.Solution for this problem is ongoing in this study. 展开更多

Affected by external environmental factors and evolution of dam performance, dam seepage behavior shows nonlinear time-varying characteristics. In this study, to predict and evaluate the long-term development trend and short-term fluctuation of the dam seepage behavior, two monitoring models were developed, one for the base flow effect and one for daily variation of dam seepage elements. In the first model, to avoid the influence of the time lag effect on the evaluation of seepage variation with the time effect component of seepage elements, the base values of the seepage element and the reservoir water level were extracted using the wavelet multi-resolution analysis method, and the time effect component was separated by the established base flow effect monitoring model. For the development of the daily variation monitoring model for dam seepage elements, all the previous factors, of which the measured time series prior to the dam seepage element monitoring time may have certain influence on the monitored results, were considered. Those factors that were positively correlated with the analyzed seepage element were initially considered to be the support vector machine(SVM) model input factors, and then the SVM kernel function-based sensitivity analysis was performed to optimize the input factor set and establish the optimized daily variation SVM model. The efficiency and rationality of the two models were verified by case studies of the water level of two piezometric tubes buried under the slope of a concrete gravity dam.Sensitivity analysis of the optimized SVM model shows that the influences of the daily variation of the upstream reservoir water level and rainfall on the daily variation of piezometric tube water level are processes subject to normal distribution. 展开更多

In order to improve the benefits of base bleed in base flow field,the base flow with hot base bleed for two jet models is studied.Twodimensional axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations are computed by using a finite volume scheme.The base flow of a cylinder afterbody with base bleed is simulated.The simulation results are validated with the experimental data,and the experimental results are well reproduced.On this basis,the base flow fields with base bleed for a circular jet model and an annulus jet model are investigated by selecting the injection temperature from 830 K to 2200 K.The results show that the base pressure of the annular jet model is higher than that of the circular jet model with the changes of the injection parameter and the injection temperature.For the circular jet model,the hot gases are concentrated in the vicinity of the base.For the annular jet model,the bleed gases flow into the shear layer directly so that the hot gases are concentrated in the shear layer.The latter temperature distribution is better for the increase of base pressure. 展开更多

To enhance the applicability and measurement accuracy of phase-based optical flow method using complex steerable pyramids in structural displacement measurement engineering applications, an improved method of optimizing parameter settings is proposed. The optimized parameters include the best measurement points of the Region of Interest (ROI) and the levels of pyramid filters. Additionally, to address the issue of updating reference frames in practical applications due to the difficulty in estimating the maximum effective measurement value, a mechanism for dynamically updating reference frames is introduced. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to representative image gradient-based displacement measurement methods, the proposed method exhibits higher measurement accuracy in engineering applications. This provides reliable data support for structural damage identification research based on vibration signals and is expected to broaden the engineering application prospects for structural health monitoring. 展开更多

The flows behind the base of a generic rocket, at both hypersonic and subsonic flow conditions, are numerically studied. The main concerns are addressed to the evaluation of turbulence models and the using of grid adaptation techniques. The investigation focuses on two configurations, related to hypersonic and subsonic experiments. The applicability tests of different turbu- lence models are conducted on the level of two-equation models calculating the steady state solution of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations. All used models, the original Wilcox k-co, the Menter shear-stress transport (SST) and the ex- plicit algebraic Reynolds stress model(EARSM) formulation, predict an asymmetric base flow in both cases caused by the support of the models. A comparison with preliminary experimental results indicates a preference for the SST and EARSM results over the results from the older k-co model. Sensitivity studies show no significant influence of the grid topology or the location of the laminar to turbulent transition on the base flow field, but a strong influence of even small angles of attack is reported from the related experiments. 展开更多

This paper evaluates the efficacy of two sequential vertical flow filters (VFF), FV1 and FV2, implanted with Typha, in a pilot-scale wastewater treatment system. FV1 comprises three cells (FV1a, FV1b, and FV1c), while FV2 consists of two cells (FV2a and FV2b), each designed to reduce various physicochemical and microbiological pollutants from wastewater. Quantitative analyses show significant reductions in electrical conductivity (from 1331 to 1061 μS/cm), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5 from 655.6 to 2.3 mg/L), chemical oxygen demand (COD from 1240 to 82.2 mg/L), total nitrogen (from 188 to 37.3 mg/L), and phosphates (from 70.9 to 14.6 mg/L). Notably, FV2 outperforms FV1, particularly in decreasing dissolved salts and BOD5 to remarkably low levels. Microbiological assessments reveal a substantial reduction in fecal coliforms, from an initial concentration of 7.5 log CFU/100mL to 3.7 log CFU/100mL, and a complete elimination of helminth eggs, achieving a 100% reduction rate in FV2. The study highlights the impact of design parameters, such as filter material, media depth, and plant species selection, on treatment outcomes. The findings suggest that the judicious choice of these components is critical for optimizing pollutant removal. For instance, different filtration materials show varying efficacies, with silex plus river gravel in FV1c achieving superior pollutant reduction rates. In conclusion, VFFs emerge as a promising solution for wastewater treatment, underscoring the importance of design optimization to enhance system efficiency. Continuous monitoring and adaptation of treatment practices are imperative to ensure water quality, allowing for safe environmental discharge or water reuse. The research advocates for ongoing improvements in wastewater treatment technologies, considering the environmental challenges of the current era. The study concludes with a call for further research to maximize the effectiveness of VFFs in water management. 展开更多

In the present study,the base pressure variations induced by the presence of a cavity,known to have a strong influence of the behaviour of supersonic projectiles,are investigated through numerical solution of the balance equations for mass,momentum,and energy.An area ratio of four is considered and numerical simulations are carried out at Mach M=1.2,1.4,1.6,and 1.8 assuming no cavity or cavity locations 0.5D,1D,1.5D,and 2D.The inlet pressure of the nozzle is considered as a flow variable.The Taguchi method is also used,and the considered cases are then analyzed using a full factorial experimental design.The results show that the cavity is effective in increasing the base pressure for the conditions examined.For other nozzle pressure ratios,cavities do not lead to passive control due the change in the reattachment length.The distribution of wall pressure reveals that,in general,a cavity used to implement passive control of the base pressure does not adversely influence the flow pattern in the domain. 展开更多

目的研究流式磁珠序列特异性寡核苷酸探针(Flow-rSSO)杂交及测序分型(PCR-SBT)方法鉴定KIR基因有无的一致性。方法对131例汉族人群的DNA标本采用Flow-rSSO方法鉴定全部16种KIR基因的有无,并采用本实验室建立的PCR-SBT方法对14种功能性KI... 目的研究流式磁珠序列特异性寡核苷酸探针(Flow-rSSO)杂交及测序分型(PCR-SBT)方法鉴定KIR基因有无的一致性。方法对131例汉族人群的DNA标本采用Flow-rSSO方法鉴定全部16种KIR基因的有无,并采用本实验室建立的PCR-SBT方法对14种功能性KIR基因进行高分辨水平基因检测;分析Flow-rSSO及PCR-SBT两种方法鉴定14种功能性KIR基因有无的一致性。对初检结果不一致的标本,采用同一厂家、不同批号的Flow-rSSO试剂盒进行复检,并采用序列特异性引物-PCR(PCR-SSP)方法进行检测。结果131例标本中有129例完全一致,2例不一致,占1.5%(2/131)。不一致的两例标本,1例标本3DL1基因、另1例标本2DS3及2DS5基因,其Flow-rSSO初检结果均为阴性,而PCR-SBT结果均为阳性。更换新的批号Flow-rSSO试剂盒复检,两例标本的结果均为阳性;采用PCR-SSP方法检测的结果亦为阳性。结论经Flow-rSSO试剂盒检测KIR基因有无,出现2例标本初检结果错误,提示检测KIR基因有无时,试剂的质控工作至关重要。 展开更多

An analytical simulation based on a new model incorporating surface interaction is conducted to study the slip phenomenon in the Couette flow at different scales. The velocity profile is calculated by taking account of the micro-force between molecules and macro-force from the viscous shearing effect, as they contribute to the achieve- ment of the slip length. The calculated results are compared with those obtained from the molecular dynamics simulation, showing an excellent agreement. Further, the effect of the shear rate on the slip is investigated. The results can well predict the fluid flow behaviors on a solid substrate, but has to be proved by experiment. 展开更多

The uncertain duration of each job in each machine in flow shop problem was regarded as an independent random variable and was described by mathematical expectation.And then,an immune based partheno-genetic algorithm was proposed by making use of concepts and principles introduced from immune system and genetic system in nature.In this method,processing se- quence of products could be expressed by the character encoding and each antibody represents a feasible schedule.Affinity was used to measure the matching degree between antibody and antigen.Then several antibodies producing operators,such as swopping,mov- ing,inverting,etc,were worked out.This algorithm was combined with evolution function of the genetic algorithm and density mechanism in organisms immune system.Promotion and inhibition of antibodies were realized by expected propagation ratio of an- tibodies,and in this way,premature convergence was improved.The simulation proved that this algorithm is effective. 展开更多

In the modeling procedure which considered layout of crossovers and the variability of service time of turntables, an M /G /1 queuing model with multi-class customers and a non-preemptive priority M /G /1 queuing model with multi-class customers were introduced to accurately present the queuing WIP of each material intersection point and perform the analytical model. Finally,300 mm wafer fabrication facilities (fabs)with 24 bays were applied to evaluating the proposed model. Compared with results of an Arena simulation, the model performs well in evaluating the number of queuing WIP of the intersection points and overall system of CFTs in AMHSs. 展开更多

To obtain fihn epitaxial materials with uniform performanee, the flow field and ternperature field in a GaN-MOCVD reactor are investigated by modeling and simulating. To make the simulation results more consistent with the actual situation, the gases in the reactor are considered to be compressible, making it possible to investigate the distributions of gas density and pressure in the reactor. The drift-flux model has a practical importance in two-phase flow analysis.In this study,a finite volume solution is developed for a transient four-equation drift-flux model through the staggered mesh,leading to the development of a fully implicit discretization method.The main advantage of the fully implicit method is its unconditional stability.Newton's scheme is a popular method of choice for the solution of a nonlinear system of equations arising from fully implicit discretization of field equations.However,the lack of convergence robustness and the construction of Jacobian matrix have created several difficulties for the researchers.In this paper,a fully implicit model is developed based on the SIMPLE algorithm for two-phase flow simulations.The drawbacks of Newton's method are avoided in the developed model.Different limiter functions are considered,and the stabilized method is developed under steady and transient conditions.The results obtained by the numerical modeling are in good agreement with the experimental data.As expected,the results prove that the developed model is not restricted by any stability limit. 展开更多

The main advantage of the combined nlethod is that it inlproves the sohltion accuracy by coupling an error estinla- tion procedure to an adaptive meshing technique that generates small elements in regions with a large change ill sohmtion gradients, mid at the same time, larger elements in the other regions. The isolation and culture of conventional detection method of salmonella can not meet the testing requirements of quick and easy detection at the grassroots level. In this study, we prepare the fluorescent nanoparticles as a marker, covalently conjugate with monoclonal antibodies of Salmonella pullorum. The whole Salmonella pullorum antigen and goat anti-mouse antibody sprayed on the nitrocellulose membranes are used as test line and control line. The fluorescence nanoparticles immune based lateral flow strips are made according to the principle of antigen-antibody immune response. The test strips may interpret results within 30 min. The results of the salmonella A, S. agona, S. chester and S. arechavaleta are positive, including, S. agona for weakly positive. After analysis, it is found that in addition to the salmonella of group A, the other positive salmonella are in group B. But it is negative of S. derby, S. rissen, and other 6 kinds of salmonella, with good specificity. The fluorescence nanoparticles immune based lateral flow strips are a little of sample can be detected fast, easily, inexpensive, easy to universal without professional technical personnel detection method. The output of the measurement is velocity-headway distance data pairs. Because density can be directly acquired by the reciprocal of headway distance, the data pairs have the advantage of better simultaneity than those from common detectors. By now, over 33 000 pairs of data have been collected from two road sections in the cities of Shanghai and Zhengzhou. Through analyzing the video files recording traffic movements on urban expressways, the following issues are studied:laws of vehicle velocity changing with headway distance, proportions of di0erent driving behaviors in the traffic system, and characteristics of traffic flow in snowy days. The results show that the real road traffic is very complex, and factors such as location and climate need to be taken into consideration in the formation of traffic flow models. 展开更多

By measuring the dynamic contact angle, the flow properties of the flowing liquid and the effect of material properties on the flow can be characterized. A machine vision based system to measure the contact angle of front or rear menisci of a moving liquid plug is described in this article. In this research, transparent flow channels fabricated on thermoplastic polymer and sealed with an adhesive tape are used. The transparency of the channels enables image based monitoring and measurement of flow variables, including the dynamic contact angle. It is shown that the dynamic angle can be measured from a liquid flow in a channel using the image based measurement system. An image processing algorithm has been developed in a MATLAB environment. Images are taken using a CCD camera and the channels are illuminated using a custom made ring light. Two fitting methods, a circle and two parabolas, are experimented and the results are compared in the measurement of the dynamic contact angles. 展开更多

Using the collected 433 heat flow values, we estimated the bases of methane hydrate stability zone (BHSZ), in northern South China Sea (NSCS). Through comparing BHSZs with the depths of bottom simulating reflectors (BSRs), in Shenhu Area (SA), we found that there are big differences between them. In the north of SA, where the water depth is shallow, many slumps developed and the sedimentation rate is high, it appears great negative difference (as large as -192%). However, to the southeast of SA, where the water depth is deeper, sedimentation rate is relatively low and uplift basement topography exists, it changes to positive difference (as large as +45%). The differences change so great, which haven't been observed in other places of the world. After considering the errors from the process of heat flow measurement, the BSR depth, the relationship of thermal conductivity with the sediments depth, and the fluid flow activities, we conclude that the difference should be not caused by these errors. Such big disagreement may be due to the misunderstanding of BSR. The deviant "BSRs" could represent the paleo-BSRs or just gas-bearing sediment layers, such as unconformities or the specific strata where have different permeability, which are not hydraterelated BSRs. 展开更多
