This paper describes a quasi 3-D finite element model of the groundwater flow in two -aquifer system which is constructed from a sequence of aquifer flow equations coupled by leakage terms representing flow through the aquitard . It is applied to evaluate the maximum rate of groundwater resources exploited from the coastal aquifer without seawater intrusion . The main task in this model is to determine the drainage boundary of the aquifer extending under the sea . The information of the boundary can be obtained from the fluctuations of the groundwater level caused by sea-tide fluctuations . A new idea, Equivalent Drainage Boundary (EDB), is proposed and the corresponding methods , determining the EDB, are developed with tidal fluctuations data observed in boreholes . The quasi 3-D model and the methods determining EDB have been applied to the aquifer system of Beihai peninsula , Guangxi Autonomous Region of China for calculating the available groundwater resources . 展开更多

Rise and Fall of Recent Chinese Coastal Resort Development:Case of Beihai Silver Beach, Guangxi, China 被引量:1

Based upon a case study of Silver Beach coastal resort of Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, this article examines the rise and fall of Chinese coastal tourist resort development since the 1980s. It explores the causes for and responses to the decline of Chinese coastal resorts. The data were collected through in-depth interviews with twelve local key information providers, and secondary information sources such as government archives, survey reports, and resort plans. It was found that the rise and fall of Chinese coastal resorts in the last three decades is closely linked to the transitional reform from a central planned economy to a market economy. Three stages of coastal tourism development were identified in a sequence of rapid growth, decline and redevelopment. It was government financial funds and high local government involvement that promoted the rapid expansion of coastal resorts during the 1980s. However, coastal resort decline occurred when transitional reform was intensified and deflationary policy executed af- ter 1992. Institutional failure is found to be the main reason of Chinese coastal resorts decline since the mid-1990s. The government-dominated pattern could not be sustained and should be restructured in forthcoming coastal tourism de- velopment in China. Revival strategies should emphasize enhancing market-oriented reform in the declining resorts on both suoolv and demand sides. 展开更多

Analysis on a Severe Convective Weather Process in Summer in Beihai

[Objective] The research aimed to analyze a strong convective weather process in Beihai in summer. [Method] By using Micaps conventional data and the single station site information of Beihai, radar data, a strong convective weather process in Beihai City in August, 2010 was analyzed. [Result] 850 and 700 hPa cyclonic low-pressure circulation in the north of Vietnam and Beibu Gulf coast was favorable for the transportation of Bengal Bay southwest airflow, which provided the sufficient water vapor condition for the strong precipitation. The interaction of weak cold air and southeast warm wet airflow was the main cause of the strong rainfall process. The falling zone of strong precipitation related to the water vapor convergence. The maintenance of water vapor flux divergence field in southeast-northwest direction was favorable for the duration of strong precipitation in the south of Guangxi. Before the strong precipitation, the positive and negative vorticity in the high and low levels in Beihai station both abruptly strengthened, which was very favorable for generating the convection. The vertical velocity in the strong precipitation process turned from the positive value at the beginning into the negative value as the height variation. The turning had the indicated and early-warning roles on the generation of strong convective weather. [Conclusion] The research provided the theory basis for the strong convective weather forecast in Guangxi coast in summer. 展开更多

Good fluidity(low viscosity) of highly concentrated kaolin is highly needed in paper-coating industry.We put forward an effective route to improve the viscosity concentration of Beihai kaolin slurries.The effects of various factors such as solid content,pH,dispersant content,and urea-intercalation on the viscosity of kaolin slurries were investigated.The results revealed that the viscosity of kaolin slurries significantly decreased with decreasing solid content or with increasing pH and dispersant content.It was worth noting that ureaintercalation was proven to be an efficient method for promoting the dispersion of highly concentrated kaolin as compared with adding dispersant.The intercalation ratio of urea-intercalated kaolin was increased from 17.36%with 2%of urea addition to 81.30%with 6%of urea addition.Meanwhile,the viscosity concentration of raw kaolin slurry was improved from 65.0%to 70.13%after the intercalation of urea with 6%addition,which was attributed to finer particle size,increased pH value and more negative charges of urea-intercalated kaolin.Therefore,the route is effective to improve the dispersion of highly concentrated kaolin for paper-coating. 展开更多
