The characteristics are that the ballads manifested that the ancestors of the Zhou nationality were traditionally good at farming, that the people were eagerly yearning towards a peaceful life, and that the using of metaphors is very much similar to that of the explanations of diagrams for divination of the same type in The Book of Changes, revealing a tinge of the elegant demeanor of poems and songs at the beginning of the Western Zhou dynasty.
