The vapor recompression heat pump(VRHP) distillation technology offers significant improvements in energy efficiency for distillation systems with small temperature differences between the top and bottom of the column...The vapor recompression heat pump(VRHP) distillation technology offers significant improvements in energy efficiency for distillation systems with small temperature differences between the top and bottom of the column. However, the separation of wide-boiling binary mixtures leads to substantial temperature differences between the top and bottom of the column. This limits the applicability of conventional VRHP due to high capital costs and strict performance requirements of the compressor. To overcome these challenges and to accommodate compressor operating conditions, a novel synthesis and design method is introduced to integrate VRHPs with wide-boiling binary mixture distillation columns(WBMDCs). This method enables quick determination of an initial configuration for the integrated WBMDC-VRHP system and helps identify the optimum configuration with the minimum total annual cost. Two examples, namely the separation of benzene/toluene and isopropanol/chlorobenzene, are employed to derive optimum configurations of the WBMDC-VRHP and compare them with the WBMDC. A systematic comparison between the WBMDC-VRHP and WBMDC demonstrates the superior steady-state performance and economic efficiency of the WBMDC-VRHP.展开更多

The new method is based on a simple modification for the ratio subtraction method. This modification enabled wider range of application. The proposed ratio difference method was applied for the determination of brimonidine and timolol in laboratory prepared mixtures with mean percentage recoveries 100.40±2.29 and 101.23± 1.30 respectively, and in their pharmaceutical formulation with mean percentage recoveries 101.08±0.44 and 100.66±0.52 respectively. The suggested ratio difference method was validated according to USP guidelines and can be applied for routine aualitv control testing.展开更多

Novel hydrogels were synthesized with free radical solution polymerization by using ammonium persulfate/N,N,N’,N’-tetramethylethylenediamine as redox initiating pair in presence of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate as crosslinker. Swelling experiments were performed in water and binary mixtures of water-solvent (acetone, methanol and tetrahydrofuran) at 25°C, gravimetrically. Some swelling and diffusion properties of the hydrogels were calculated and they were discussed for the biohybrid/hybrid hydrogel systems prepared under various formulations. It has been seen the lower equilibrium percentage swelling ratio values (62% - 124%) in all solvent compositions in comparison with the equilibrium percentage swelling ratio values in water (718% - 2055%). Consequently, the hydrogel systems developed in this study could serve as a potential device for water and water-solvent binary mixtures.展开更多

The flow dynamics of binary particle mixtures in the fluidized bed needs to be monitored in order to optimize the related industrial processes.In this paper,electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging are applied to ...The flow dynamics of binary particle mixtures in the fluidized bed needs to be monitored in order to optimize the related industrial processes.In this paper,electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging are applied to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles in the binary particle mixtures in fluidization.Experimental studies were conducted on a lab-scale cold circulating fluidized bed.Correlation function between electrostatic signals from upstream and downstream electrodes placed along the riser shows two peaks that represent transit times for the two types of particles.To verify the above results,high-speed imaging was adopted to capture the flow images of particle mixtures.Particle Image Velocimetry and Particle Tracking Velocimetry algorithms were utilized to process the resulted images in order to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles.The reasons for two-peak correlation functions are illustrated based on the frequency spectrums of the mono-solid-phase electrostatic signals and the velocity difference between polyethylene and sand particles.Finally,comparisons on the velocities obtained from electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging demonstrate the electrostatic sensor can roughly estimate the particle velocity of binary particle mixtures in the near wall region of the circulating fluidized bed.展开更多

The first compression isotherm is approximately an equilibrium one. In the UHPPG-UH29 and UHPPG-UH68 systems, the calculated average π-a curves based on simple additivity of the two individual components coincide with the experimental results reasonably well. It is suggested that the two components are miscible and form near-ideal solution at the air-water interface. The compression-expansion cycle experiments shows some degree of hysteresis. The order of degree of hysteresis for individual components is UH68>UH29>UHPPG. The explanation for the hysteresis is proposed.展开更多

NaBH_(4) was widely regarded as a low-cost hydrogen storage material due to its high-mass hydrogen capacity of approximately 10.8%(mass)and high volumetric hydrogen capacity of around 115 g·L^(–1).However,it exh...NaBH_(4) was widely regarded as a low-cost hydrogen storage material due to its high-mass hydrogen capacity of approximately 10.8%(mass)and high volumetric hydrogen capacity of around 115 g·L^(–1).However,it exhibits strong stability and requires temperatures above 500℃ for hydrogen release in practical applications.In this study,two polyhydric alcohols,xylitol and erythritol(XE),were prepared as a binary eutectic sugar alcohol through a grinding-melting method.This binary eutectic sugar alcohol was used as a proton-hydrogen carrier to destabilize NaBH_(4).The 19NaBH_(4)-16XE composite material prepared by ball milling could start releasing hydrogen at 57.5℃,and the total hydrogen release can reach over 88.8%(4.45%(mass))of the theoretical capacity.When the 19NaBH_(4)-16XE composite was pressed into solid blocks,the volumetric hydrogen capacity of the block-shaped composite could reach 67.2 g·L^(–1).By controlling the temperature,the hydrogen desorption capacity of the NaBH_(4)-XE composite material was controllable,which has great potential for achieving solid-state hydrogen production from NaBH_(4).展开更多
Characterisations of instantaneous mixing behaviours in fluidised beds with binary mixtures has many challenges.We studied the instantaneous mixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a 2-D quasi gas-solid fluidised...Characterisations of instantaneous mixing behaviours in fluidised beds with binary mixtures has many challenges.We studied the instantaneous mixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a 2-D quasi gas-solid fluidised bed using a capacitance probe method.This method enabled the quantitative assessment of instantaneous mixing behaviours,including mixing index,rate,and time.Three kinds of binary mixtures of similar size but different density were used for the transient and steady fluidisation experiments in a bubbling fluidised bed.The mixing curves of initially segregated binary mixtures were acquired,and the instantaneous characteristics for the entire process were analysed.An equation was proposed to describe the mixing process and predict the mixing degree over time.By comparing experiments with different working conditions,the effects of superficial gas velocity and density ratio on the mixing in the centre and at the wall of the fluidised bed were addressed.During the stable fluidisation stage,the axial concentration profiles of the mixtures were obtained,and the mechanisms of mixing were discussed.Results showed that the mixing level increased logarithmically with time and eventually reached a relatively stable value.Increasing the superficial gas velocity and reducing the density ratio promoted mixing and reduced mixing time.High superficial gas velocities tended to mix the mixtures well and quickly,regardless of the density ratio of the two components.展开更多

From the experimental data, the deviation in dynamic viscosity η from ∑χiηi has been calculated. From the experimental data the deviations in viscosity, △η, deviations in Gibbs free energy, AG, deviations in ultrasonic speed, △u, deviations in entropies, △S^*, and deviations in enthalpies, △H^*, of activation of viscous flow have been determined. The sign and magnitude of these parameters were found to be sensitive towards interactions prevailing in the studied systems. Further, the excess molar volumes, VE, were calculated using data for the binary mixtures. Moreover, theoretical values of viscosities and ultrasonic speeds of the binary mixtures were calculated using different empirical relations and theories. 文摘The flow dynamics of binary particle mixtures in the fluidized bed needs to be monitored in order to optimize the related industrial processes.In this paper,electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging are applied to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles in the binary particle mixtures in fluidization.Experimental studies were conducted on a lab-scale cold circulating fluidized bed.Correlation function between electrostatic signals from upstream and downstream electrodes placed along the riser shows two peaks that represent transit times for the two types of particles.To verify the above results,high-speed imaging was adopted to capture the flow images of particle mixtures.Particle Image Velocimetry and Particle Tracking Velocimetry algorithms were utilized to process the resulted images in order to measure the velocities of polyethylene and sand particles.The reasons for two-peak correlation functions are illustrated based on the frequency spectrums of the mono-solid-phase electrostatic signals and the velocity difference between polyethylene and sand particles.Finally,comparisons on the velocities obtained from electrostatic sensing and high-speed imaging demonstrate the electrostatic sensor can roughly estimate the particle velocity of binary particle mixtures in the near wall region of the circulating fluidized bed.
文摘Prior to formation of the micelles of cationic surfactant (CSF), bromopyrogallol red (BPR) could exist in the forms of both monomer and oligomer After that, however, only BPR monomer existed. Nonionic surfactant OP-10 favoured the oligomerization of BPR monomer. The mixed micellar media prepared by mixing CSF and OP-10 in an appropriate ratio could be used for the sensitive and selective determination of Mo in Mo/W binary mixtures.
文摘Density, viscosity and sound velocity of six binary liquid mixtures of methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, hexanol and octanol with 1,4-dioxane have been measured over the entire range of composition at temperature 303.15K. From the experimental densities, viscosities and sound velocity, the excess molar volume (<i>V<sup>E</sup></i>), deviation in viscosity (Δ<i>η</i>) and deviation in isentropic compressibility (Δ<i>K<sub>S</sub></i>) have been calculated. The results have been used to discuss the nature and strength of intermolecular interactions in these mixtures.

Some swelling and diffusion parameters were calculated and discussed. 文摘Excess molar volumes (V^E_m) of binary mixtures of2-methyl-3-buten-3-ol [CH_3C(OH)(CH_3)CHCG_2] with four 1-alcohols:methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and l-butanol at 298.15 K andatmospheric pressure are derived from density measurements with avibrating-tube densimeter. All the excess volumes are negative in thesystems over the entire composition range. The results are correlatedwith the Redlich-Kister equation. The effects of chain length ofl-alcohols on V^E_m are discussed. The apparent molar volumes of2-methyl-3-ol and l-alcohols are calculated respectively.
文摘The behaviour of monolayers of copolymers of oxyethylene and oxypropylene (UH29 and UH68), polypropylene glycol (UHPPG)and their binary mixtures on air-water interface has been investigated carefully on compression-expansion cycles. The first compression isotherm is approximately an equilibrium one. In the UHPPG-UH29 and UHPPG-UH68 systems, the calculated average π-a curves based on simple additivity of the two individual components coincide with the experimental results reasonably well. It is suggested that the two components are miscible and form near-ideal solution at the air-water interface. The compression-expansion cycle experiments shows some degree of hysteresis. The order of degree of hysteresis for individual components is UH68>UH29>UHPPG. The explanation for the hysteresis is proposed.
文摘The wetting and evaporation dynamics of sessile droplets have gained considerable attention over the last few years due to their relevance to many practical applications,ranging from a variety of industrial problems to several biological systems.Droplets made of binary mixtures typically undergo complex dynamics due to the differential volatility of the considered components and the ensuing presence of thermocapillary effects.For these reasons,many research groups have focused on the evaporation of binary droplets using a variegated set of experimental,numerical,and purely theoretical approaches.Apart from reviewing the state-of-the-art about the existing experimental,analytical,and computational techniques used to study the evaporation dynamics of binary sessile droplets,we also provide some indications about possible future research directions in this specific area.

文摘To investigate the effect of the Froude number(Fr)on solid segregation in a rotating drum,a two dimensional mathematical modelling on solids behaviour in horizontally oriented rotating drums operated in rolling,cascading and cataracting modes has been carried out by using Euler-Euler multi-fluid model in Fluent6.2 environment.Small particles and big particles are used in the work as binary mixtures to investigate segregation characteristics.The effect of Froude number(rotating velocity)on the flow field is investigated.It is found that the model captures the main features of solids motion and segregation in the drum and numerical results agree well with limited experimental data for solid velocity.

文摘NaBH_(4) was widely regarded as a low-cost hydrogen storage material due to its high-mass hydrogen capacity of approximately 10.8%(mass)and high volumetric hydrogen capacity of around 115 g·L^(–1).However,it exhibits strong stability and requires temperatures above 500℃ for hydrogen release in practical applications.In this study,two polyhydric alcohols,xylitol and erythritol(XE),were prepared as a binary eutectic sugar alcohol through a grinding-melting method.This binary eutectic sugar alcohol was used as a proton-hydrogen carrier to destabilize NaBH_(4).The 19NaBH_(4)-16XE composite material prepared by ball milling could start releasing hydrogen at 57.5℃,and the total hydrogen release can reach over 88.8%(4.45%(mass))of the theoretical capacity.When the 19NaBH_(4)-16XE composite was pressed into solid blocks,the volumetric hydrogen capacity of the block-shaped composite could reach 67.2 g·L^(–1).By controlling the temperature,the hydrogen desorption capacity of the NaBH_(4)-XE composite material was controllable,which has great potential for achieving solid-state hydrogen production from NaBH_(4).

文摘Characterisations of instantaneous mixing behaviours in fluidised beds with binary mixtures has many challenges.We studied the instantaneous mixing characteristics of binary mixtures in a 2-D quasi gas-solid fluidised bed using a capacitance probe method.This method enabled the quantitative assessment of instantaneous mixing behaviours,including mixing index,rate,and time.Three kinds of binary mixtures of similar size but different density were used for the transient and steady fluidisation experiments in a bubbling fluidised bed.The mixing curves of initially segregated binary mixtures were acquired,and the instantaneous characteristics for the entire process were analysed.An equation was proposed to describe the mixing process and predict the mixing degree over time.By comparing experiments with different working conditions,the effects of superficial gas velocity and density ratio on the mixing in the centre and at the wall of the fluidised bed were addressed.During the stable fluidisation stage,the axial concentration profiles of the mixtures were obtained,and the mechanisms of mixing were discussed.Results showed that the mixing level increased logarithmically with time and eventually reached a relatively stable value.Increasing the superficial gas velocity and reducing the density ratio promoted mixing and reduced mixing time.High superficial gas velocities tended to mix the mixtures well and quickly,regardless of the density ratio of the two components.
文摘A combined physical model of bubble growth is proposed along with a corresponding bubble growth model for binary mixtures on smooth tubes. Using the general model of Wang et al.[1] and the bubble growth model for binary mixtures, an analytical model for nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of binary mixtures on smooth tubes is developed.In addition, nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of pure liquids and binary mixtures on a horizontal smooth tube was studied experimentally. The pure liquids and binary mixtures included water,methanol, ethanol, and their binary mixtures. The analytical models for both pure liquids and binary mixtures are in good agreement with the experimental data.
文摘Excess molar volumes Vm^E and kinematic viscosities v have been measured as a function of composition for binary mixtures of propylene glycol monomethyl ether (1-methoxy-2-propanol), MeOCH2CH(OH)Me, propylene glycol monoethyl ether (1-ethoxy-2-propanol), EtOCH2CH(OH)Me, propylene glycol monopropyl ether (1-propoxy-2-propanol), PrOCH2CH(OH)Me, propylene glycol monobutyl ether (1-butoxy-2-propanol), BuOCH2CH(OH)Me, and propylene glycol tert-butyl ether (1-tert-butoxy-2-propanol), t-BuOCH2CH(OH)Me with 1-butanol, and 2-butanol, at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The excess molar volumes are negative across the entire range of composition for all the systems with 1-butanol, and positive for the systems 2-butanol+ 1-methoxy-2-propanol, and +1-propoxy-2-propanol, negative for the systems 2-butanol+1-butoxy-2-propanol, and change sign for the systems 2-butanol+ 1-ethoxy-2-propanol, and + 1-tert-butoxy-2-propanol. From the experimental data, the deviation in dynamic viscosity η from ∑χiηi has been calculated. Both excess molar volumes and viscosity deviations have been correlated using a Redlich-Kister type polynomial equation by the method of least-squares for the estimation of the binary coefficients and the standard errors.
文摘The viscosities, η, and ultrasonic speeds, u, of pure benzene, triethylamine, (TEA) tributylamine, (TBA), and those of their binary mixtures, with benzene as common component, covering the whole composition range have been measured at 278.15 K, 283.15 K, 288.15 K, 293.15 K, 298.15 K, 303.15 K, 308.15 K, 313.15 K, and 318.15 K. From the experimental data the deviations in viscosity, △η, deviations in Gibbs free energy, AG, deviations in ultrasonic speed, △u, deviations in entropies, △S^*, and deviations in enthalpies, △H^*, of activation of viscous flow have been determined. The sign and magnitude of these parameters were found to be sensitive towards interactions prevailing in the studied systems. Further, the excess molar volumes, VE, were calculated using data for the binary mixtures. Moreover, theoretical values of viscosities and ultrasonic speeds of the binary mixtures were calculated using different empirical relations and theories. The results were in experimental and theoretical values. discussed in terms of average deviations (AD)
