We focused on three species: Avicennia officinalis, Avicennia marina and Bruguiera sexangula. These species were selected for their fast growth, ability to protect against cyclones, and effectiveness in coastal defense during mangrove restoration. To collect data on tree structure and carbon storage, we conducted field surveys measuring parameters such as diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height and crown diameter for each tree. Non-destructive methods were used for data collection. Using ANOVA and post-hoc multiple comparison tests, we assessed differences in structure and carbon stock among the three species. Regression analysis was also performed to understand the relationship between carbon stock and structural attributes. In terms of stand densities, we observed variations among species, with pioneer stage plantations exhibiting higher densities compared to mature stands. Seedlings showed sufficient regeneration, supporting the sustainability of the forest. Biomass accumulation varied across species, with A. officinalis having the highest average biomass. Aboveground biomass showed a strong correlation with basal area. A. officinalis had the highest total biomass carbon accumulation at 55.29 ± 20.91 Mg C ha-1, with 77.43% aboveground carbon and 22.57% belowground carbon. A. marina stored 41.09 ± 11.03 Mg C ha-1, with a similar distribution of 76.05% aboveground and 23.95% belowground carbon, while B. sexangula stored 23.23 ± 3.12 Mg C ha-1, with 70.70% aboveground carbon and 29.30% belowground carbon. The amount of aboveground carbon was a significant portion of the overall carbon storage and correlated with tree density, diameter, basal area and height. Our findings highlight the importance of selecting suitable species and considering structural attributes for mangrove restoration and carbon storage efforts. These results provide valuable insights for managing mangrove plantations at regional and global levels. On average, the reported carbon sequestration was 154.40 MgCO2-eq ha-1.展开更多

The results showed that the difference of soil MBC was significant among three vegetation types in five sample spots in July. The order of surface soil MBC was: Aquaculture pond reed (sample 2)〉 reed of river bank (sample 5)〉 sea- plant(sample 5)〉 river flat(sample 4)〉 The alkaline(sample 1). There is a very sig- nificant correlation among the soil MBC, the water content of soil and the content of organic matter. Among wetland plants, reed is kind of plant content of high ground biomass and below-ground biomass, especially the MBC planted in wetland is high- er, which shows that compared with common plants, reed is more conducive to the accumulation of soil MBC and has an important effect to wetland protecting and re- covery of function of ecosystem.展开更多

The results showedthat in the tropical rubber farm, soil microbial biomass C (MBC) and total organic C (TOC) wererelatively low in the content but highly correlated with each other. After rubber tapping, soil MBCof mature rubber fields decreased significantly, by 55.5 percent. compared with immature rubberfields. Soil TOC also decreased but the difference was not significant. Ratios of MBC to TOCdecreased significantly. The decreasing trend of MBC stopped at about ten years of rubbercultivation. After this period, soil MBC increased relatively while soil TOC still kept indecreasing. Soil MBC changes could be measured to predict the tendency of soil organic matterchanges due to management practices in a tropical rubber farm several years before the changes insoil TOC become detectable.展开更多

Soil pH significantly affected Cmic and Pmic. The Cmic and Pmic changes, as a function of soil pH, appeared to follow a normal distribution with the original soil pH value at the apex and as pH increased or decreased compared to the original soil pH, Cmic and Pmic declined. Moreover, there were critical pH values at both extremes (3.0 on the acidic side and 8.0 to 8.5 on the alkaline side), beyond which most of microorganisms could never survive. The effect of pH on Cmic and Pmic was also related to the original soil pH. The higher the original soil pH was, the less Cmic or Pmic were affected by pH change. It is suggested that soil microorganisms that grow in a soil environment with a more neutral soil pH range (I.e. pH 5.5-7.5) may have a greater tolerance to pH changes than those growing in more acidic or more alkaline soil pH conditions.展开更多

The soil samples were collected at different depths (0-100 cm), and the contents of soil total organic carbon (TOC), DOC and MBC were analysed. The experiment was conducted for 10 yr, during which period the application of fertilizers and crop management practices were kept identical. The results showed that the contents of TOC, DOC and MBC were significantly affected by different irrigation regimes, decreased with the increase of soil depth. TOC at 0-10 and 80-100 cm soil depths followed the order of furrow irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation 〉 drip irrigation, whereas at the depth of 10-80 cm followed the order of subsurface irrigation 〉 furrow irrigation 〉 drip irrigation. DOC and MBC contents at 0-100 cm soil depths followed the order of furrow irrigation 〉 drip irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation, and drip irrigation 〉 furrow irrigation 〉 subsurface irrigation, respectively. The ratios of DOC and MBC to TOC accounted for 4.98-12.87% and 1.48-2.82%, respectively, which were the highest in the drip irrigation treatment, followed were in the furrow irrigation treatment, and the lowest in subsurface irrigation treatment. There were significant positive correlations among the contents of DOC, MBC and TOC in all irrigation treatments. The furrow irrigation facilitated the accumulation of TOC and DOC, while drip irrigation increased the MBC. The content of TOC and the ratios of DOC to TOC were the lowest in subsurface irrigation treatment.展开更多

Results showed that the MBC and MBN levels in the 0-5 cm soil layer were higher in autumn than in summer and spring. As the prolongation of vegetation restoration raised the MBC and MBN levels in summer and autumn, no clear variation was found in spring. However, the MBC and MBN in 5-20 cm had no obvious seasonal variation. During summer and autumn, the variation trend of MBC and MBN in the vertical direction was shown to be 0-5 〉 5-10 〉 10-20 cm in the vegetation area, while for mobile dunes, the MBC and MBN levels increased as the depth increased. The natural vegetation area was shown to possess the highest MBC and MBN levels, and yet mobile dunes have the lowest MBC and MBN levels. MBC and MBN levels in artificial sand-binding vegetation increased with the prolongation of vegetation restoration, indicating that the succession of sand-binding vegetation will result in the ac- cumulation of soil carbon and nitrogen, as well as the restoration of soil fertility.展开更多

Saline and alkaline arable land was taken as research object in this paper and four salt gradients were set(S1: 0.1%; S2:0. 5%; S3:0.9%; S4:1.3%). Through the addition of different substrates( CK: no addition of substrate; N: addition of nitrogen source; C: addition of glucose,C + N: addition of glucose and nitrogen source) to soil,it analyzed the influence of salt content on the soil microbial biomass carbon( SMBC) for the purpose of surveying the response mechanism of soil carbon turnover to salt stress. Results indicated that after addition of different substrates, the SMBC in high salt content(S3 and S4) is obviously lower than that in low salt content( S1 and S2). The decline rate of S3 and S4 is 5. 4% and 14. 2% for no addition of substrate; the decline rate is 9.0% and 24.0% for addition of nitrogen source; the decline rate is 11.5% and 28.0% for addition of carbon source; the decline rate is 19.5% and 39.5% for addition of carbon source + nitrogen source. Compared with no addition of substrates, addition of nitrogen source could not increase the SMBC. Addition of carbon source and carbon + nitrogen can significantly increase the SMBC,and the increase in low salt content soil( 80.0%- 81.0% and 58.0%- 59.0%) is obviously higher than high salt content soil( 52.0%- 69.0%and 34.0%- 50.0%). Generally, when the soil salt content is low( 0.5%),the influence of different substrate treatment is little on the SMBC,and increasing the soil salt content can obviously reduce the SMBC.展开更多

To the future predictions of these responses, the current forest biomass carbon storage(FCS) should first be clarified as much as possible, especially at national scales. However, few studies have introduced how to verify an FCS estimate by delimiting the reasonable ranges. This paper addresses an estimation of national FCS and its verification using two-step process to narrow the uncertainty. Our study focuses on a methodology for reducing the uncertainty resulted by converting from growing stock volume to above-and below-ground biomass(AB biomass), so as to eliminate the significant bias in national scale estimations. Methods: We recommend splitting the estimation into two parts, one part for stem and the other part for AB biomass to preclude possible significant bias. Our method estimates the stem biomass from volume and wood density(WD), and converts the AB biomass from stem biomass by using allometric relationships. Results: Based on the presented two-step process, the estimation of China’s FCS is performed as an example to explicate how to infer the ranges of national FCS. The experimental results demonstrate a national FCS estimation within the reasonable ranges(relative errors: + 4.46% and-4.44%), e.g., 5.6–6.1 PgC for China’s forest ecosystem at the beginning of the 2010 s. These ranges are less than 0.52 PgC for confirming each FCS estimate of different periods during the last 40 years. In addition, our results suggest the upper-limits by specifying a highly impractical value of WD(0.7 t·m-3) on the national scale. As a control reference, this value decides what estimate is impossible to achieve for the FCS estimates. Conclusions: Presented methodological analysis highlights the possibility to determine a range that the true value could be located in. The two-step process will help to verify national FCS and also to reduce uncertainty in related studies. While the true value of national FCS is immeasurable, our work should motivate future studies that explore new estimations to approach the true value by narrowing the uncertainty in FCS estimations on national and global scales.展开更多

文摘Differences in forest attributes and carbon sequestration of each organ and layer between broadleaved and conifer forests of central and outer urban areas are not well-defined,hindering the precise management of urban forests and improvement of function. To clarify the effect of two forest types with different urbanization intensities,we determined differences in vegetation composition and diversity, structural traits, and carbon stocks of 152 plots(20 m×20 m)in urban park forests in Changchun, which had the largest green quantity and carbon density effectiveness. We found that 1.1-fold thicker and healthier trees, and 1.6-to 2.0-fold higher, healthier, denser, and more various shrubs but with sparser trees and herbs occurred in the central urban forests(p<0.05)than in the outer forests. The conifer forests exhibited 30–70%obviously higher tree aboveground carbon sequestration(including stem and leaf)and 20%bigger trees, especially in the outer forests(p<0.05).In contrast,1.1-to 1.5-fold higher branch stocks, healthier and more diverse trees were found in broadleaved forests of both the inner and outer forests(p<0.05).Plant size and dominant species had similarly important roles in carbon stock improvement, especially big-sized woody plants and Pinus tabuliformis. In addition,a higher number of deciduous or needle species positively affected the broadleaved forest of the central urban area and conifer forest of the outer urban area, respectively. These findings can be used to guide precise management and accelerate the improvement of urban carbon function in Northeast China in the future.
文摘This study examines the impact of different mangrove species on the structure and carbon storage potential of mangrove stands in Myanmar. On average, the reported carbon sequestration was 154.40 MgCO2-eq ha-1.

Among wetland plants, reed is kind of plant content of high ground biomass and below-ground biomass, especially the MBC planted in wetland is high- er, which shows that compared with common plants, reed is more conducive to the accumulation of soil MBC and has an important effect to wetland protecting and re- covery of function of ecosystem.

文摘Soil samples were collected from different rubber fields in twenty-five plotsselected randomly in the Experimental Farm of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agriculture Scienceslocated in Hainan, China, to analyse the ecological effect of rubber cultivation. Soil MBC changes could be measured to predict the tendency of soil organic matterchanges due to management practices in a tropical rubber farm several years before the changes insoil TOC become detectable.

文摘The impact of pH changes on microbial biomass carbon (Cmic) and microbial biomass phosphorus (Pmic)were examined for 3 red soils under citrus production with different lengths of cultivation. It is suggested that soil microorganisms that grow in a soil environment with a more neutral soil pH range (I.e. pH 5.5-7.5) may have a greater tolerance to pH changes than those growing in more acidic or more alkaline soil pH conditions.

文摘We estimated forest biomass carbon storage and carbon density from 1949 to 2008 based on nine consecutive forest inventories in Henan Province,China.According to the definitions of the forest inventory,Henan forests were categorized into five groups: forest stands, economic forests, bamboo forests, open forests, and shrub forests. We estimated biomass carbon in forest stands for each inventory period by using the continuous biomass expansion factor method. We used the mean biomass density method to estimate carbon stocks in economic, bamboo, open and shrub forests.Over the 60-year period, total forest vegetation carbon storage increased from34.6 Tg(1 Tg = 1×10;g) in 1949 to 80.4 Tg in 2008,a net vegetation carbon increase of 45.8 Tg.By stand type, increases were 39.8 Tg in forest stands,5.5 Tg in economic forests,0.6 Tg in bamboo forests,and-0.1 Tg in open forests combine shrub forests.Carbon storageincreased at an average annual rate of 0.8 Tg carbon over the study period.Carbon was mainly stored in young and middle-aged forests, which together accounted for 70–88%of the total forest carbon storage in different inventory periods.Broad-leaved forest was the main contributor to forest carbon sequestration. From 1998 to 2008,during implementation of national afforestation and reforestation programs, the carbon storage of planted forest increased sharply from 3.9 to 37.9 Tg.Our results show that with the growth of young planted forest,Henan Province forests realized large gains in carbon sequestration over a 60-year period that was characterized in part by a nation-wide tree planting program.

文摘The objective of this study was to investigate the contents and distribution of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and microbial biomass carbon (MBC) at 0-100 cm soil depth under three irrigation treatments, viz., subsurface, drip and furrow irrigation in the greenhouse soil. The content of TOC and the ratios of DOC to TOC were the lowest in subsurface irrigation treatment.

文摘In this study, seasonal variation characteristics of surface soil microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and soil microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN) of an artificial vegetation area located in Shapotou for different time periods were studied using the chloroform fumigation method, and the results were compared with those of near-natural vegetation areas and mobile dunes. MBC and MBN levels in artificial sand-binding vegetation increased with the prolongation of vegetation restoration, indicating that the succession of sand-binding vegetation will result in the ac- cumulation of soil carbon and nitrogen, as well as the restoration of soil fertility.

文摘Owing to porous structure, stable chemical properties, low cost and available raw material, biomass carbon aerogel is a promising adsorbent framework material.Herein,a pomelo peel-based carbon aerogel was prepared by hydrothermal-freeze drying-high temperature carbonization method and modified with Tri-n-ocylamine(N235)and γ-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane(KH560)via impregnation process. The as-prepared adsorbents exhibit superior adsorption performance for iodide in simulated and oilfield brines, and the highest adsorption amount of iodide in oilfield brine can reach 0.58 mmol/g.It is also demonstrated by adsorption kinetics and isotherms that iodide is adsorbed through chemical adsorption.Protonation of tertiary amide group in N235 and epoxy group in KH560 may be the main reason for the highly selective adsorption of iodide.

文摘The effects of different amounts of carbon and nitrogen sources on the soil microbial biomass carbon, dissolved organic carbon and related enzyme activities were studied by the simulation experiment of rice straw returning to the field, and the mechanism of the decomposition of rice straw returning to the field was discussed.Completely randomized experiment of the two factors of the three levels was designed, and a total of nine treatments of indoor soil incubation tests were conducted.Full amount of rice straw was applied to the soil in this simulation experiment and different amounts of brown sugar and urea were added in the three levels of 0(no carbon source and nitrogen source),1(low levels of carbon and nitrogen sources)and 2(high levels of carbon and nitrogen sources),respectively. The results showed that the addition of different amounts of carbon and nitrogen sources to the rice straw could increase the soil carbon content.Compared with T0N0,the microbial biomass carbon of T2N2 was increased significantly by 170.48%;the dissolved organic carbon content of T1N2 was significantly increased by 58.14%and the free humic acid carbon contents of T0N2,T1N1 and T2N0 were significantly increased by 56.16%and 45.55%and 47.80%,respectively;however,there were no significant differences among those of treatments at later incubation periods. The addition of different carbon and nitrogen sources could promote the soil enzyme activities.During the incubation period, all of the soil enzyme activities of adding sugar and urea were higher than those of T0N0 treatment. Therefore, the addition of different amounts of carbon and nitrogen sources to rice straw returning could improve soil microbial biomass carbon content, dissolved organic carbon and soil enzyme activities.
文摘In this study, biomass carbon was prepared by pyrolysis by using sewage sludge as raw material. The effects of activator concentration, impregnation ratio, impregnation time, carbonization temperature and carbonization time on the preparation of sludge-based biomass carbon were investigated. The adsorption isotherm and adsorption kinetics of sludge-based biomass carbon prepared under optimal conditions were analyzed. The results showed that the optimum preparation condition of sludge-based biomass carbon was as follows:the concentration of activator was 15%,the impregnation ratio was 1∶1,the impregnation time was 4 h,the carbonization temperature was 750℃,and the carbonization time was 40 min.The adsorption process accords with the quasi-second-order reaction kinetics model, and the isothermal adsorption curve follows the Freundlich isotherm model, which indicates that the adsorption of Cu^2+on sludge-based biomass carbon ismulti-layered.

文摘Exploring efficient and stable photoanode materials is a necessary link to realize the practical application of solar-driven photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting.Hence,we prepared rutile TiO_(2) nanorods, with a width of 50 nm,which was growth in situ on carbon cloth(TiO_(2)@CC)by hydrothermal reaction. And then,Ag nanoparticles(NPs)and biomass N,S-C NPs were chosen for the additional modification of the fabricated TiO_(2) nanorods to produce broccoli-like Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC nanocomposites.According to the result of ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(UV-vis)and PEC water splitting performance tests,Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC broadens the absorption region of TiO_(2)@CC from the ultraviolet region to the visible regio n.Under AM 1.5 G solar light irradiation, the photocurrent density of Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC is 89.8μA·cm^(-2),which is 11.8 times higher than TiO_(2)@CC.Under visible light irradiation, the photocurrent density of Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC reaches to 12.6μA·cm^(-2),which is 21.0 times higher than TiO_(2)@CC.Moreover,Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC shows a photocurrent responses in full pH range. It can be found that Ag NPs and N,S-C NPs play key roles in broaden the absorption range of TiO_(2) nanorods to the visible light region and, promote the occurrence of PEC water oxidation reaction due to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag NPs and the synergistic effect of N,S-C NPs.The mechanism demonstrated that Ag-N,S-C/TiO_(2)@CC can separate the photogenerated electron-hole pairs effectively and transfer the photogenerated electrons to the photocathode(Pt plate)in time. This research provides a new strategy for exploration surface plasma metal coupled biomass carbon materials in the field of PEC water splitting.

文摘Soil salinization has become a global issue. Generally, when the soil salt content is low( 0.5%),the influence of different substrate treatment is little on the SMBC,and increasing the soil salt content can obviously reduce the SMBC.

文摘Background: In recent decades the future of global forests has been a matter of increasing concern, particularly in relation to the threat of forest ecosystem responses under potential climate change. While the true value of national FCS is immeasurable, our work should motivate future studies that explore new estimations to approach the true value by narrowing the uncertainty in FCS estimations on national and global scales.

文摘We analyzed the compositions and basic properties of agricultural and forest biomass carbon, and used the pot method to study the influence of such element on the remediation of contaminated soils and growth of crops. Results show that agricultural and forest biomass carbon contains various nutrients that are necessary for crop growth, high specific surface area, and pore structure development.Cotton stalk charcoal can reduce bioavailability of Cadmium(Cd) in soil.Under mild Cd pollution, soil treated with cotton stalk charcoal adsorbs Cd at a rapid rate. With increasing extent of Cd pollution,Cd adsorption rate gradually slows down and Cd adsorption amount gradually increases. In soil treated with cotton stalk charcoal, the amount of Cd accumulated in the edible portions and roots of Brassica chinensis significantly decrease. The Cd mass fraction of the edible portions and roots are reduced by 49.43%- 68.29%,64.14%- 77.66% respectively.Appropriately adding carbon cotton stalks increases crop biomass. At a certain range, increasing cotton stalk charcoal also promotes the absorption of major nutrients in Brassica chinensis.

文摘Porous carbon(PC)is a promising electromagnetic(EM)wave absorbing material thanks to its light weight, large specific surface area as well as good dissipating capacity. To further improve its microwave absorbing performance, silver coated porous carbon(Ag@PC)is synthesized by one-step hydro-thermal synthesis process making use of fir as a biomass formwork.Phase compositions, morphological structure, and microwave absorption capability of the Ag@PC has been explored.Research results show that the metallic Ag was successfully reduced and the particles are evenly distributed inward the pores of the carbon formwork, which accelerates graphitization process of the amorphous carbon. The Ag@PC composite without adding polyvinyl pyrrolidone(PVP)exhibits higher dielectric constant and better EM wave dissipating capability. This is because the larger particles of Ag give rise to higher electric conductivity. After combing with frequency selective surface(FSS),the EM wave absorbing performance is further improved and the frequency region below-10 d B is located in8.20-11.75 GHz,and the minimal reflection loss value is-22.5 dB.This work indicates that incorporating metallic Ag particles and FSS provides a valid way to strengthen EM wave absorbing capacity of PC material.

文摘Use of the transition-metal single atomsupported by carbon is an innovative technique that enhances the electrocatalytic behavior of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)for Zn-air batteries(ZABs).Yet,building such catalysts with stable and efficient electron/mass transport pathways,as well as high catalytic activity and stability remains a critical challenge. Here,we develop a hierarchically porous biomass carbon to anchor atomically dispersed Co atoms, simultaneously addressing the active sites’emergence and stability, and electron/mass transit. The optimum catalyst achieves fabulous electrocatalytic behavior with a half-wave potential of 0.82 V for ORR.More impressively, the ZAB with its well-tailored catalyst exhibits extraordinary combined performance, including a high zenith power density of 139.89mW·cm^(−2),outstanding specific capacity, and remarkable rate durability. This rational design strategy can be applied to create high-efficiency and inexpensive electrocatalysts for sustainable energy conversion and storage devices.

文摘Primary forests are spatially diverse terrestrial ecosystems with unique characteristics, being naturally regenerative and heterogeneous, which supports the stability of their carbon storage through the accumulation of live and dead biomass.Yet,little is known about the interactions between biomass stocks, tree genus diversity and structure across a temperate montane primary forest. Here,we investigated the relationship between tree structure(variability in basal area and tree size),genus-level diversity(abundance, tree diversity)and biomass stocks in temperate primary mountain forests across Central and Eastern Europe. We used inventory data from726 permanent sample plots from mixed beech and spruce across the Carpathian Mountains. We used nonlinear regression to analyse the spatial variability in forest biomass, structure, and genus-level diversity and how they interact with plot-level tree age, disturbances, temperature and altitude. We found that the combined effects of genus and structural indices were important for addressing the variability in biomass across different spatial scales.Local processes in disturbance regimes and uneven tree age support forest hete rogeneity and the accumulation of live and dead biomass through the natural regeneration, growth and decay of the forest ecosystem.Structural complexities in basal area index, supporte d by genus-level abundance, positively influence total biomass stocks, which was modulated by tree age and disturbances.Spruce forests showed higher tree density and basal area than mixed beech forests, though mixed beech still contributes significantly to biomass across landscapes.Forest heterogeneity was strongly influenced by complexities in forest composition(tree genus diversity, structure). We addressed the importance of primary forests as stable carbon stores, achieved through structure and diversity.Safeguarding such ecosystems is critical for ensuring the stability of the primary forest, carbon store and biodiversity into the future.
