A numerical triangulation and transformation into the time domain of a Kirchhoff approximation(KA)method is proposed for the modeling of bistatic scattering from an underwater non-penetrable target. The time domain solution in this approximation can be split up into two parts:the solution of reflected field, contributing around the specular direction, and the solution of shadow radiation, contributing around the forward direction. An average solution in the time domain satisfying the reciprocity principle is presented. The solution is expressed in terms of non-singular functions. The proposed method is validated against a normal mode method for bistatic scattering from a rigid sphere. Moreover, the reflected and shadow highlights on the surface of the sphere are shown to verify the integration surface of the reflected field and shadow radiation. It is also tested against a finite element method and an experiment involving a scaled Benchmark Target Strength Simulation Submarine model. The time-angle bistatic spectra for the model are evaluated by the direct and transformed average solutions of KA,and the former accelerates its speed of calculation. The results are good, and show that this method can be used to predict the bistatic scattered field of a non-penetrable target. 展开更多

Monitoring the thickness changes of channel siltation is paramount in safeguarding navigation and guiding dredging, This paper presents a novel method for realizing the field monitoring of channel siltation in real time. The method is based on the bistatic scattering theory and concerned more with the receiving and processing of multipath signal at high-frequency and small grazing angle. By use of the multipath propagation structure of underwater acoustic channel, the method obtains the silt thickness by calculating the relative time delay of acoustic signals between the direct and the shortest bottom reflected paths. Bistatic transducer pairs are employed to transmit and receive the acoustic signals, and the GPS time synchronization technology is introduced to synchronize the transmitter and receiver, The WRELAX (Weighted Fourier transforul and RELAX) algorithm is used to obtain the high resolution estimation of muhipath time delay. To examine the feasibility of the presented method and the accuracy and precision of the developed system, a series of sea trials are conducted in the southwest coast area of Dalian City, north of the Yellow Sea. The experimental results are compared with that using high-resolution dual echo sounder HydroBoxTM, and the uncertainty is smaller than + 0.06 m. Compared with the existing means for measuring the silt thickness, the present method is innovative, and the system is stable, efficient and provides a better real-time performance. It especially suits monitoring the narrow channel with rapid changes of siltation. 展开更多

A current based hybrid method (HM) is proposed which combines the method of moment (MOM) with the Kirchhoff approximation (KA) for the analysis of scattering interaction between a two-dimensional (2D) infinitely long conducting target with arbitrary cross section and a one-dimensional (1D) Gaussian rough surface. The electromagnetic scattering region in the HM is split into KA region and MOM region. The electric field integral equation (EFIE) in MOM region (target) is derived, the computational time of the HM depends mainly on the number of unknowns of the target. The bistatic scattering coefficient for the infinitely long cylinder above the rough surface with Gaussian roughness spectrum is calculated, and the numerical results are compared and verified with those obtained by the conventional MOM, which shows the high efficiency of the HM. Finally, the influence of the size, location of the target, the rms height and correlation length of the rough surface on the bistatic scattering coefficient with different polarizations is discussed in detail. 展开更多

The bistatic scattering model is offen used for remote microwave sensing. The bi-spectrum model (BSM) for conducting surfaces was used to develop a scattering model for dielectric randomly rough surfaces to estimate their bistatic scattering coefficients. The model for dielectric rough surfaces differs from the BSM for a conducting surface by including Fresnell reflection and transmission from dielectric rough surfaces. The bistatic scattering coefficients were defined to satisfy the reciprocal theorem. Values calculated using the BSM for dielectric randomly rough surfaces compare well with those of the integral equation model (IEM) and with experimental data, showing that the BSM accuracy is acceptable and its range of validity is similar to that of IEM while the BSM expression is simpler than that of IEM. 展开更多
