Methods: One hundred and forty-eight elderly patients with diabetes were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 74 cases each. The control group received routine nursing intervention and the observation group received comprehensive nursing intervention. The blood sugar levels, treatment compliance, and nursing satisfaction of the two groups of patients before and after intervention were compared. Results: After the intervention, the fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (t = 7.729), 2 hours postprandial glucose (PPG) (t = 8.343), and HbA1c (t = 6.929) levels of patients in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.001). The observation group (71/95.95%) had a higher compliance rate than the control group (54/72.97%) (χ^(2)=14.877, P < 0.001). The comprehensive nursing satisfaction rate of the observation group (73/98.65%) was higher than that of the control group (56/75.68%) (χ^(2)=17.451, P < 0.001). Conclusion: In caring for elderly patients with diabetes, comprehensive nursing intervention effectively reduced patients’ blood sugar levels and improved treatment compliance and nursing satisfaction.展开更多

It affects not only the well-being of workers but also the firms and society as a whole through medical costs and productivity losses due to absenteeism and presenteeism. Data and Methods: Data were obtained from 1136 employees at an operational site of a large corporation. The dataset contained both medical checkups and working record information. Health factors affecting long-term absence (over three days in three months) were analyzed. Logistic regression models and the procedure for selecting proper covariates based on likelihood test statistics and the Akaike information criterion were used. Results: Among health factors, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and blood sugar levels were important in the selected model. For HDL-C, the odds ratio (OR) based on one standard deviation difference was 0.75 with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 0.59 - 0.95. For blood sugar, the OR was 1.20 with a 95% CI of 1.01 - 1.42. Improving HDL-C and blood sugar levels would reduce long-term absence by 25% and 20%, respectively. Conclusion: Controlling HDL-C and blood sugar levels is important to reduce long-term absenteeism. These factors can be improved by modifying eating habits. Since the operational site has its own company cafeterias, which most employees use, nutritional intervention is relatively easy with little or no cost. It may be worthwhile to implement nutritional intervention, especially for patients with low HDL-C or high blood sugar levels. Limitations: The results of this study were based on one operational site of a corporation. The employees were mainly operators working inside the building. The results may be different from other types of jobs and working conditions, such as fieldwork. Analyses of different types of jobs and working conditions are necessary.展开更多

In Benin, the increase in this prevalence, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is constantly increasing. Diabetic foot is one of its most common complications. The aim of this work was to study the prognostic factors of diabetic foot in the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou. Patients and method: This is a descriptive and analytical retrospective study of the prognostic factors of diabetic foot over a period of 3 years from January 2019 to December 2021 in patients who have been hospitalized or followed on an outpatient basis for diabetic foot in the Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition Department of the CNHU-HKM of Cotonou. Results: A total of 112 patients were included in this study. The average age of the patients was 59.70 ± 2.10 years. A male predominance was noted with a sex ratio (M/F) of 1.7. Mixed gangrene and phlegmons were the most common lesions. According to the classification of diabetic feet according to the University of Texas, 59.1% of patients had a 100% risk of amputation. Ten patients died from sepsis (8.9%). The average blood glucose on admission was 2.74 ± 0.23 g/l, reflecting the glycemic imbalance in these patients. There is a statistically significant association between the duration of progression of diabetes, the type of lesion and amputation. Patients whose diabetes has lasted more than 30 years and patients who are not monitored have a greater risk of death. Conclusion: Diabetic patients most often consulted at a late stage, compromising conservative treatment. The duration of diabetes and the type of lesion on admission were the main factors leading to amputation, thus compromising the functional prognosis. As for death, it was mainly linked to irregular monitoring of diabetes and the duration of diabetes. Effective prevention and management of diabetic feet requires patient education about the diabetic foot and systematic screening of at-risk feet in consultation.展开更多

It is important to know the prevalence of diabetes, the factors affecting blood glucose levels, and the percentage of people with diabetes taking medications. Data and Methods Data and Methods: We analyzed the distribution of blood glucose levels and prevalence of diabetes using 10,917,173 observations obtained from the JMDC Claims Database in Japan. The factors that may affect blood glucose levels were analyzed by a regression model using 5,472,205 observations. Treatment with diabetes medications was analyzed with 9,932,854 and 5,466,361 observations using a method to approximate the inverse of probability by a continuous piecewise linear function. Results: The prevalence of diabetes in 2019 was estimated to be 9.63% in males and 5.33% in females ages 20 - 79;10.78% and 7.04% for ages 20 - 89;and 10.93% and 7.65% for ages 20 - 99, respectively. In addition to age and gender, the important variables affecting blood glucose levels were <em>BMI</em>, <em>SBP</em>, <em>Triglyceride</em>, <em>ALT</em>, <em>AST</em> and <em>GGP</em>. The percentage taking medications increased up to a blood glucose level of around 175 mg/dL, but declined over that. Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetes in Japan was estimated using a very large dataset, and considering age, gender, and time trends. Some variables may be effective for controlling blood glucose levels. Nearly half of those at a serious stage of diabetes took no medications. Proper medical care for these individuals is necessary to prevent worsening diabetes and serious complications. Limitations: The dataset was observatory, and did not include those age 80 or over. Revising medical care systems to include those outside of hospitals is necessary;however, practical approaches have not yet been developed.展开更多

Experimental investigation shows that absorption spectrum has the following characteristics in the wave band of 200-300 nm: (1) The absorption spectrum is of complex shape, there is more absorption peak in UV-band, it shows that there is a complex absorption phenomenon in blood group macromolecules; (2) The curve shapes of absorption spectra are similar to different samples ,the reason is that the spectrum is synthesis of some group macromolecules absorption spectrum; (3) There is a degree of displacement of absorption peak to different samples; (4) There is no significant correlation between absorbance and blood sugar concentration at 278 nm, but random. Based on the wave band of 280 nm to 300 nm, a neural network model was built to determine the blood sugar concentration.展开更多

Methods: A total of 120 inpatients and outpatients were randomly divided into acupuncture plus medication group (n=52) and medication group (n=50). In addition, 18 type II diabetes patients formed acupuncture group for comparing their therapeutic effects. Main acupoints used were Pishu (BL 20), Geshu (BL 17), Yishu, Shenshu (BL 23), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), etc.. combined with other acupoints according to different sydroms. These acupoints were stimulated by manipulaing the filiform needles with uniform reinforcing and reducing method for 15 min and then stimulated electrically for 15 min with an electroacupuncture therapeutic apparatus. Western medicines used were Glipizide, Dimethyldiguanide Hydrochloride, etc.. The treatment was given once daily, with 10 sessions being a therapeutic course, 2~3 courses altogether. Indexes of external thrombosis length (ETL), platelet agglutination rate (PAgR), fibrinogen (FG), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), fasting blood glucose (FBG), prothrombin time(PT), adrenocoticortropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol (CS), growth hormone (GH), glucagon (GL), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF α), interleukin 6 (IL 6), insulin (INS) and C peptide (C P) were determined using radioimmunoassay. Results: After 2~3 courses of treatment, both acupuncture group and medication plus acupuncture group could significantly improve high hemagglutination state, lower blood sugar raising hormone level, regulate immunocyte factor level and raise the sensitivity of insulin, which were apparently superior to those of medication group (P<0.05~0.01). Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy can effectively regulate plasma blood sugar raising hormone, immunocyte factor levels, increase the sensitivity of insulin to target cells, resist blood coagulation and improve microcirculation.展开更多

An initial focus on the potentially deleterious effects of hyperglycemia led to a series of investigations regarding intensive insulin therapy strategies that targeted tight glycemic control. As knowledge accumulated, the pursuit of tight glycemic control among critically-ill patients came to be seen as counterproductive, and moderate glycemic control came to dominate as the standard practice in intensive care units. In recent years, there has been increased focus on the importance of hypoglycemic episodes, glycemic variability, and premorbid diabetic status as factors that contribute to outcomes among critically-ill patients. This review provides a survey of key studies on glucose control in critical care, and aims to deliver perspective regarding glycemic management among critically-ill patients.展开更多

文摘Objective: To analyze the effect of comprehensive nursing intervention on improving blood glucose levels and treatment compliance in elderly patients with diabetes. Conclusion: In caring for elderly patients with diabetes, comprehensive nursing intervention effectively reduced patients’ blood sugar levels and improved treatment compliance and nursing satisfaction.
文摘Background: Workers’ health condition is an important issue. 文摘Introduction: Predictions on the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, according to the International Diabetes Federation, indicated 9.3% in 2019 and nearly 10.9% of the general population in 2045. Effective prevention and management of diabetic feet requires patient education about the diabetic foot and systematic screening of at-risk feet in consultation.

文摘Objective:The study aims to explore the interventional effect of Abrus cantonensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their compatibility on blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic mice and to explore the optimal ratio of efficacy of their compatibility. Methods:SPF Kunming male mice were fed with high sugar and high fat diet for 6 weeks and then intraperitoneally injected with STZ solution to establish a diabetes model. The successfully modeled mice were randomly divided into 6 groups according to their body weight:model group,Abrus Cantoniensis group,Armeniaca mume Sieb group,as well as Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb group divided into 1:2,1:1 and 2:1 groups according to volume ratio with 10 mice in each group.Another 10 healthy mice were taken as blank group and intraperitoneally injected with sodium citrate buffer. The corresponding solution was given intragastric administration by body mass once a day for 20 days. After the last administration, fasting was performed for 12 hours.Serum was collected by the method of eyeball blood collection to determine the contents of fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol Triacylglycerol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein. Results:Compared with Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb groups,Glu,TG,TC and LDL-C of the three compatibility groups significantly decreased, with the most significant decrease in the compatibility group 1:2,while there was no significant difference in HDL-C among all groups. Conclusion:Abrus Cantoniensis and Armeniaca mume Sieb and their combination have synergistic effects on the improvement of blood glucose and lipid levels in mice with high glucose and high fat combined with STZ-induced diabetes mellitus model.Among all the experimental groups, the compatibility 1:2 group had the best effect.
文摘In this paper,a dynamic linear detecting method, that the non-linear coefficient NL% was led and the non-linearity of data were estimated continuously and dynamically and determined when NL% exceeded reference value (5%),was used for data processing and could solve the problem caused by the phenomenon of substrate depleting occurred following the redox reaction in portable blood sugar analyzer.By contrast to the conventional end-point method, the dynamic linear detecting method is based on multipoint data collecting.Experiments of measuring the calibration glucose solution with 8 various concentrations from 50 mg/dl to 400 mg/dl were carried out with the analyzer developed by our group. The linear regression curve, whose correlation for the data was 0.9995 and the residual was 2.8080,were obtained. The obtained correlation, residual, and the computation workload are all fit for the portable blood sugar analyzer.
文摘Background: Diabetes is a noncommunicable disease caused by high levels of blood glucose, and it is currently one of the most important public health problems in the world. Revising medical care systems to include those outside of hospitals is necessary;however, practical approaches have not yet been developed.

文摘UV absorption spectrum and neural network theory was used for the analysis of blood sugar concentration. Based on the wave band of 280 nm to 300 nm, a neural network model was built to determine the blood sugar concentration.
文摘Objective: To investigate the effect of acupuncture on high hemagglutination state, blood sugar raising hormone and immunocyte factor levels in type II diabetes patients. Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy can effectively regulate plasma blood sugar raising hormone, immunocyte factor levels, increase the sensitivity of insulin to target cells, resist blood coagulation and improve microcirculation.

文摘Glycemic control among critically-ill patients has been a topic of considerable attention for the past 15 years. This review provides a survey of key studies on glucose control in critical care, and aims to deliver perspective regarding glycemic management among critically-ill patients.
文摘A study was conducted to identify the factors related to diabetes mellitus among the diabetes patients at HUSM Kelantan. A total of 972 diabetes mellitus patients who had attended Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) from 2005 to 2006 were involved in the study. The significant findings include: (1) Mean age of diabetes patients under the study was 44.36 years old; (2) The average age of patients from control group and pre-diabetes group which came from the middle-age were 44.30 and 42.43 years old respectively. Patients from diabetes group had recorded the highest mean age of 53.24 years old which are the elderly; (3) There was a significant difference in the average blood sugar between patient age group of〈30 years old and patient age group of〉30 years old. However, there was no significant difference in the mean blood sugar between male and female patients; (4) There were significant associations between diabetes mellitus and gender, occupation and clinical symptoms such as tired, polyuria and polydipsia. However, there was no significant association between diabetes mellitus and polyphagia symptoms. The authors believed that the symptoms ofpolyuria and polydipsia were highly associated with the chances of the patients to get diabetes mellitus.
文摘in this paper, effects of RE from different sources on the growth, development and endurance of Chinese kunming mice have been studied. The result indicates that the body and organ weights and endurance of the mice in group B(F.velutipes) are significantly increased over those in the control group(group E) after three weeks, and it also shows that the biological effects vary with the amount of RE in diet.Compared with group D(RE(NO3)3),group B has the same amount of RE in diet but the body and organ weights are much heavier, swimming time is increased by 28.6%,and the changes of blood sugar and serum lactic acid after swimming decrease notably. Thus,it can be found that F.velutipes rich in RE added in diet performs a positive function to promote the mouse growth, development and endurance, while the inorganic RE(NO3)3 fails on it,even inhibits their growth.
