However, results are not consistent. In this population-based case-control study including 1204 incident endometrial cancer cases and 1212 population controls, we examined the association of self-reported serologic blood type with endometrial cancer risk using a logistic regression model. Women with endometrial cancer were more likely to have blood type A. Compared to women with blood type O, the adjusted odds ratios for endometrial cancer were 1.00 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.79-1.28] for type B, 1.24 (95% CI, 0.90-1.69) for type AB, and 1.50 (95% CI, 1.19-1.90) for type A. A significant dose-response relationship was observed for cancer risk and level of antigen A (P for trend = 0.0003). The positive association of blood type A with cancer risk was observed regardless of menopausal status, body mass index, oral contraceptive use, or family cancer history. Our results suggest that ABO blood type may be involved in the development of endometrial cancer.展开更多

METHODS: Our analysis included a cohort of 1017 patients with pancreatic ductal cancer diagnosed at our hospital in Tokyo. They were divided into two groups: 114 patients with long-standing type 2 diabetes (DM group, defined as diabetes lasting for at least three years before the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer) and 903 patients without diabetes (non-DM group). Multivariate analysis was performed to identify factors that are associated with long-standing diabetes. The DM group was further divided into three subgroups according to the duration of diabetes (3-5 years, 5.1-14.9 years, and 15 years or more) and univariate analyses were performed. RESULTS: Of the 883 pancreatic cancer patients with serologically assessed ABO blood type, 217 (24.6%) had blood type O. Compared with the non-DM group, the DM group had a higher frequency of blood type B [odds ratio (OR) = 2.61, 95%CI: 1.24-5.47; reference group: blood type A]. Moreover, male (OR = 3.17, 95%CI: 1.67-6.06), older than 70 years of age (OR = 2.19, 95%CI: 1.20-3.98) and presence of a family history of diabetes (OR = 6.21, 95%CI: 3.38-11.36) were associated with long-standing type 2 diabetes. The mean ages were 64.8 ± 9.2 years, 67.1 ± 9.8 years, and 71.7 ± 7.0 years in the subgroups with the duration of diabetes, 3-5 years, 5.1-14.9 years, and 15 years or more, respectively (P = 0.007). A comparison of ABO blood type distribution among the subgroups also showed a significant difference (P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: The association of pancreatic cancer with blood type and duration of diabetes needs to be further examined in prospective studies.展开更多

The aim of this study was to analyze survival of pancreatic cancer patients who underwent surgical resection based on serotype-defined ABO blood types. Methods: In terms of ABO blood types and gemcitabine-based adjuvant therapy, we investigated the survival of 153 patients who underwent pancreatectomy for pancreatic cancer at the Department of Surgery and Oncology,KyushuUniversity(Fukuoka,Japan). Results: Among the four blood type groups, the O serotype group (median survival time (MST): 47.9 months) showed the best prognostic outcome. The A serotype group (MST: 22.5 months) showed the second best prognostic outcome, followed by the AB serotype group (MST: 20.4 months). The B serotype group (MST: 15 months) showed the worst prognostic outcome when considering the MST after the surgical resection. Next, we examined the effect of adjuvant chemotherapy with gemcitabine based on the ABO blood types. The A serotype group showed the greatest improvement in prognosis by adjuvant therapy with gemcitabine after the surgical resection. The other three serotype groups showed no significant differences in the prognostic outcomes between subgroups with and without gemcitabine therapy. Conclusions: The present data suggest the possibility that ABO blood types are prognostic factors for pancreatic cancer patients after surgical treatment and are also predictive factors for the chemosensitivity to gemcitabine of pancreatic cancer patients after pancreatectomy.展开更多

The aims of this study were to study BG types and BG-antigens in pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms(IPMNs). METHODS: BG type and tumor BG-antigen(glycoprotein) expression(studied by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays) were analyzed with regard to characteristics of 101 surgically resected pancreatic IPMNs. RESULTS: Non-O BG type predicted invasive carcinoma independently from high serum CA19-9 and male gender. BG type A was observed more frequently in women than in men. Chronic pancreatitis was more frequently seen in patients with BG type B or AB. Aberrant tumor expression(with regard to BG type) of loss of A antigen expression type occurred in 15.0% of IPMNs and of loss of B antigen expression type in 62.5% of IPMNs. Intraneoplasm BG-antigen expression was not related to dysplasia grade or invasion. CONCLUSION: The results of the study suggest that in pancreatic IPMN, non-O BG type predicted invasive carcinoma, whereas for intratumor BG-antigen expression no specific patterns were detected with regard to the progression of glandular epithelial dysplasia or invasion.展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To measure correlation of abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity with various illness courses, symptoms and levels of fasting blood glucose of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. DESIGN: Case analysis. SETTING: Department of Neurology, Central People's Hospital of Huizhou. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 128 patients who were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected from Central People's Hospital of Huizhou from September 2001 to October 2005. There were 75 males and 53 females aged 32-83 years and the illness course ranged from 1 month to 20 years. METHODS: All 128 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus received neuro-electrophysiological study and their clinical data were retrospectively analyzed to measure peripheral nerve conduction velocity and fasting blood glucose so as to investigate the correlation of peripheral nerve conduction velocity with clinical symptoms, illness course and levels of fasting blood glucose. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Correlation of peripheral nerve conduction velocity with clinical symptoms, illness course and levels of fasting blood glucose. RESULTS: All 128 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were involved in the final analysis. ① Among 128 patients, 114 patients had abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity; 110 patients had clinical symptoms, including 102 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity; 18 patients did not have clinical symptoms, including 12 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity. There were significant differences between them (χ 2=8.275, P =0.04). ② Among 128 patients, illness course of 75 patients was equal to or less than 5 years, including 27 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity; illness course of 53 patients was more than 5 years, including 35 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity. There were significant differences between them (χ 2=11.469, P =0.003). ③ Among 128 patients, levels of fasting blood glucose of 75 patients was equal to or lower than 11 mmol/L, including 41 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity; levels of fasting blood glucose of 53 patients was higher than 11 mmol/L, including 38 patients having abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity. There were significant differences between them (χ 2=4.023, P =0.134). CONCLUSION: ① Abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is related to illness courses and clinical symptoms. The longer the illness course is, the severer the abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity is. Abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity always occurs on patients who have clinical symptoms. ② Abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity is not related to levels of fasting blood glucose.展开更多

Methods Fifty-two normotensive patients with type 2 diabetes received ambulatory blood pressure monitoring were divided into normoalbuminuric and microalbuminuric groups according to their albumin excretion rate, the other 28 normotensive subjects without diabetes were contributed as control group. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was performed on a working day and measurement of blood pressure circadian rhythm was analyzed. Results Normotensive microalbuminuric diabetic patients had higher night-time systolic blood pressure and more blood pressure burden than normotensive normoalbuminuric diabetic patients. Additionally, the microalbuminuric patients had a higher frequency of non-dippers than normoalbuminuric ones, although they were all normotensive. Compared to the normotensive non-diabetic control subjects, the night- time systolic blood pressure and frequency of non- dippers of the normoalbuminuric diabetic patients were significantly higher. Conclusions Intensive attention should be paid in control of blood pressure in diabetic patients to prevent and limit damage of target organ including kidney, even in those normotensive subjects.展开更多

METHODS We conducted a case-control at the National Obesity Center of the Yaoundé Central Hospital, Cameroon. We compared 24 h ABPM and urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio(ACR) at rest and after a standardized treadmill exercise between 20 Cameroonian T1 DM patients and 20 matched controls. T1 DM adolescents were aged 12-18 years, with diabetes for at least one year, without proteinuria, with normal office blood pressure(BP) and renal function according to the general referencepopulation. Non-diabetic controls were adolescents of general population matched for sex, age and BMI.RESULTS Mean duration of diabetes was 4.2 ± 2.8 years. The mean 24 h systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) were respectively 116 ± 9 mm Hg in the diabetic group vs 111 ± 8 mm Hg in the nondiabetic(P = 0.06), and 69 ± 7 mm Hg vs 66 ± 5 mm Hg(P = 0.19). There was no difference in the diurnal pattern of BP in diabetes patients and non-diabetic controls(SBP: 118 ± 10 mm Hg vs 114 ± 10 mm Hg, P = 0.11; DBP: 71 ± 7 mm Hg vs 68 ± 6 mm Hg, P = 0.22). Nighttime BP was higher in the diabetic group with respect to SBP(112 ± 11 mm Hg vs 106 ± 7 mm Hg, P = 0.06) and to the mean arterial pressure(MAP)(89 ± 9 mm Hg vs 81 ± 6 mm Hg, P = 0.06). ACR at rest was similar in both groups(5.5 mg/g vs 5.5 mg/g, P = 0.74), but significantly higher in diabetes patients after exercise(10.5 mg/g vs 5.5 mg/g, P = 0.03). SBP was higher in patients having exercise-induced albuminuria(116 ± 10 mm Hg vs 108 ± 10 mm Hg, P = 0.09). CONCLUSION Exercise-induced albuminuria could be useful for early diagnosis of kidney damage in adolescents with T1 DM.展开更多

文摘ABO incompatible living donor liver transplantation has the potential to expand the donor pool for patients with end stage liver diseases on the expense of challenges to overcome immunological barriers across blood type. There is a profound impact of age on incidence and severity of antibody mediated rejection(AMR).Even children older than 1 year have chances of AMR;children aged 8 years or older have risks of hepatic necrosis similar to adult liver recipients. The mechanism of AMR is based on circulatory disturbances secondary to inflammation and injury of the vascular endothelium caused by an antibody-antigen-complement reaction. The strategy to overcome ABO blood type barrier is based on both pre-transplant desensitization and adequate treatment of this phenomenon.Nowadays, rituximab is the standard means of desensitization but unfortunately an insufficient aid to treat AMR.Because of low incidence(less than 5%in the rituximab era),in practice of AMR only some case reports about the treatment of clinical AMR are available in the literature.Initial experiences revealed that the proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib might be a promising treatment based on its capacity to deplete plasma cell agents.Although ABO blood type barrier has been counteracted in 95%of patients by applying“rituximab-desensitization”,many issues, such as prediction of high-risk patients of infection and AMR and secure treatment strategies for evoked AMR,remain to be resolved.

文摘ABO blood type has been associated with risk of several malignancies. Our results suggest that ABO blood type may be involved in the development of endometrial cancer.
文摘AIM: To retrospectively study pancreatic cancer patients with respect to their ABO blood type and diabetes. CONCLUSION: The association of pancreatic cancer with blood type and duration of diabetes needs to be further examined in prospective studies.

文摘Background:The prognostic significance of ABO blood type for lymphoma is largely unknown. We evaluated the prognostic role of ABO blood type in patients with extranodal natural killer(NK)/T-cell lymphoma(ENKTL).Methods:We retrospectively analyzed clinical data of 697 patients with newly diagnosed ENKTL from three cancer centers. The prognostic value of ABO blood type was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazard models. The prognostic values of the International Prognostic Index(IPI) and the Korean Prognostic Index(KPI)were also evaluated. Results:Compared with patients with blood type O,those with blood type non-O tended to display elevated baseline serum C-reactive protein levels(P=0.038),lower rate of complete remission(P=0.005),shorter progression-free survival(PFS,P<0.001),and shorter overall survival(OS,P=0.001).Patients with blood type O/AB had longer PFS(P<0.001) and OS(P=0.001) compared with those with blood type A/B.Multivariate analysis demonstrated that age >60 years(P<0.001),mass ≥5 cm(P=0.001),stage Ⅲ/Ⅳ(P<0.001),elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) levels(P=0.001),and blood type non-O were independent adverse predictors of OS(P=0.001).ABO blood type was found to be superior to both the IPI in discriminating patients with different outcomes in the IPI low-risk group and the KPI in distinguishing between the intermediate-to-low-and high-to-intermediate-risk groups. Conclusions:ABO blood type was an independent predictor of clinical outcome for patients with ENKTL.
文摘Background/Purpose: A recent genome-wide association study (PanScan) identified significant association between the ABO gene locus and the risk of pancreatic cancer. Conclusions: The present data suggest the possibility that ABO blood types are prognostic factors for pancreatic cancer patients after surgical treatment and are also predictive factors for the chemosensitivity to gemcitabine of pancreatic cancer patients after pancreatectomy.
文摘Background: Although a number of studies have reported that the hot and humid compress from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is effective in treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH) with qi stagnation and blood stasis, clinical evidence is limited. Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide high-quality evidence to support the effectiveness of the traditional Chinese hot and humid compress in the treatment of LDH with qi stagnation and blood stasis. Methods: From October 2021 to November 2023, 86 patients with LDH of qi stagnation and blood stasis type were recruited in our hospital and divided into a control (n = 43) and an observation group (n = 43) according to the random number table method. The control group was given routine clinical treatment, and the observation group was treated with the hot and humid compress therapy for two weeks. The visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, TCM syndrome score, serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), serum interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were observed and compared between the two groups before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy of the two groups was evaluated. Results: After treatment, the VAS score, TCM symptom score, and serum IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α levels decreased in both groups (P P P P P Conclusions: The hot and humid compress of traditional Chinese medicine can effectively relieve pain, restore lumbar function, improve TCM syndromes, reduce the level of inflammatory factors, and have a curative effect in treating LDH.
文摘BACKGROUND: There are few data on blood group(BG) types and types of pancreatic cancers. CONCLUSION: The results of the study suggest that in pancreatic IPMN, non-O BG type predicted invasive carcinoma, whereas for intratumor BG-antigen expression no specific patterns were detected with regard to the progression of glandular epithelial dysplasia or invasion.

文摘BACKGROUND The Borrmann classification system is used to describe the macroscopic appearance of advanced gastric cancer, and Borrmann typeⅣdisease is independently associated with a poor prognosis.AIM To evaluate the prognostic significance of lymphatic and/or blood vessel invasion(LBVI)combined with the Borrmann type in advanced proximal gastric cancer(APGC).METHODS The clinicopathological and survival data of 440 patients with APGC who underwent curative surgery between 2005 and 2012 were retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS In these 440 patients,LBVI+status was associated with Borrmann typeⅣ,low histological grade, large tumor size, and advanced pT and pN status. The 5-year survival rate of LBVI+patients was significantly lower than that of LBVI– patients, although LBVI was not an independent prognostic factor in the multivariate analysis. No significant difference in the prognosis of patients with Borrmann typeⅢ/LBVI+disease and patients with Borrmann typeⅣdisease was observed. Therefore,we proposed a revised Borrmann typeⅣ(r-BorⅣ)as Borrmann typeⅢplus LBVI+,and found that r-BorⅣwas associated with poor prognosis in patients with APGC,which outweighed the prognostic significance of pT status.CONCLUSION LBVI is related to the prognosis of APGC,but is not an independent prognostic factor.LBVI status can be used to differentiate Borrmann typesⅢandⅣ,and the same approach can be used to treat r-BorⅣand Borrmann typeⅣ.
文摘AIM To investigate the relationship between circadian variations in blood pressure(BP) and albuminuria at rest, and during exercise in non-hypertensive type 2 diabetes(T2D) patients.METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study in well controlled T2D patients,non-hypertensive,without clinical proteinuria and normal creatinine clearance. In each participant,we recorded the BP using ambulatory bloodpressure monitoring(ABPM) for 24-h,and albuminuria at rest and after a standardized treadmill exercise.RESULTS We enrolled 27 type 2 patients with a median age of 52;and a mean duration of diabetes and HbA 1c of 3.6 ± 0.8 years and 6.3% ± 0.5% respectively.Using a 24-h ABPM,we recorded a mean diurnal systolic blood pressure(SBP) of 128 ± 17 mmH g vs nocturnal of 123 ± 19 mmH g(P = 0.004),and mean diurnal diastolic blood pressure(DBP) of 83 ± 11 mmH g vs nocturnal 78 ± 14 mmH g(P = 0.002).There was a significant difference between albuminuria at rest [median = 23 mg,interquartile range(IQR) = 10-51] and after exercise(median = 35 mg,IQR = 23-80,P < 0.001).Patients with exercise induced albuminuria had an increase in nocturnal BP values on all three components(128 mmH g vs 110 mmH g,P = 0.03 for SBP;83 mmH g vs 66 mmH g,P = 0.04;106 vs 83,P = 0.02 for mean arterial pressure),as well as albuminuric patients at rest. Moreover, exercise induced albuminuria detect a less increase in nocturnal DBP(83 vs 86,P = 0.03) than resting albuminuria.CONCLUSION Exercise induced albuminuria is associated with an increase in nocturnal BP values in T2D patients.

文摘BACKGROUND: It has shown that abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity during onset of diabetes mellitus is not related to age and sex, but to symptoms, illness course and level of fasting blood glucose. ② Abnormality of peripheral nerve conduction velocity is not related to levels of fasting blood glucose.
文摘Objective: To evaluate the curative effect of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) external therapy on knee osteoarthritis patients with different TCM constitutions using musculoskeletal ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, and to explore the application value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography in knee joint diseases. Methods: A total of 57 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis in Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2019 to May 2021 were collected, and they were divided into qi stagnation and blood stasis type group (23 cases) and cold-dampness obstruction type group (34 cases) according to the traditional Chinese medicine method. All patients were given acupuncture combined with TCM fumigation and washing. All patients underwent musculoskeletal ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography before and after treatment, observed and recorded relevant data, and compared the treatment effects between the two groups. Results: 85.96% (49/57) of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients had suprapatellar bursa effusion, 42.1% (24/57) had iliotibial band bursae effusion, some of which had poor sound transmission, and thickened synovium was seen in most effusions, 33.33% (19/57) had osteophyte formation. Compared with before treatment, the depth of suprapatellar sac effusion in the Qi stagnation and blood stasis type group decreased after treatment (P Conclusion: Musculoskeletal contrast-enhanced ultrasonography was used to quantitatively evaluate the efficacy of TCM external therapy on KOA for different TCM constitutions. Dynamic observation of synovial lesions of knee osteoarthritis provides a valuable imaging method for evaluating the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine.
文摘Objectives To observe the characteristic of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in normotensive diabetic subjects with normoalbuminuria or microalbuminuria. Conclusions Intensive attention should be paid in control of blood pressure in diabetic patients to prevent and limit damage of target organ including kidney, even in those normotensive subjects.
文摘AIM To investigated the relationship between exerciseinduced ambulatory blood pressure measurement(ABPM) abnormalities in type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM) adolescents. CONCLUSION Exercise-induced albuminuria could be useful for early diagnosis of kidney damage in adolescents with T1 DM.
