Support principles of NPR bolt/cable and control techniques of large-deformation disasters

Deep mining has been paid much more attention because of the depletion of shallow mining resources.Traditional bolts could be invalid to accommodate large displacement and deformation in geomaterials.Consequently, alternative support and reinforcement bolts need to be studied and their constitutive models also need to be developed to help understanding for the complex stress-strain responses of rock masses under loadings. The effect of Negative Poisson's Ratio(NPR) that is attributed to the swelling phenomenon along the lateral direction may appear in metal materials under tensional loadings. Thence NPR materials often have an advantage over NPR ones in mechanical behavior such as impact resistance, antishearing, and energy absorbed. From the characteristics of NPR materials, a series of bolt and cable supports with the effect of NPR and constant-resistance have been recently developed. We here firstly introduce the structural features of NPR support. Then the constitutive model of NPR support is presented and its corresponding equation of energy equilibrium. Its basic principle interacted on rock masses is further discussed. Finally, NPR cables are employed to support the slope of an open-pit mine. The applications show that NPR cables can ease failure within the slope and play an important role in predicting and providing early warning of slope failure, together with a monitoring system of slope stability.

Emergency Response to the MS7.0 Jiuzhaigou,Sichuan Earthquake,and Characteristics of Seismic Disasters in the Stricken Area in Gansu Province

This paper introduces the response process of the Gansu Earthquake Agency during the Jiuzhaigou M_S7.0 earthquake in Sichuan Province,including earthquake emergency disposal procedures,information reports,disaster investigation and intensity assessment,seismic monitoring and trend determination,and emergency dissemination. This paper reveals the characteristics of earthquake damage in the quake-hit areas of Gansu Province,draws some corresponding conclusions and summarizes the countermeasures for recovery and reconstruction in the quake-hit areas of Gansu Province.

Remote Sensing Dynamic Monitoring System for Agricultural Disaster in Henan Province Based on Multi-source Satellite Data

Using 3S technology, relying on earth-space three-dimensional agriculture disaster monitoring network, remote sensing monitoring model for agricultural disaster in Henan Province was established, and agricultural disaster monitoring system plat- form of Henan Province based on multi-souroe satellite data was further constructed, which realizes dynamic monitoring of agricultural disasters in Henan Province （drought, flood, snow cover and straw burning）.

基于D-S证据理论改进AHP-熵权的流域洪涝灾害评估研究

考虑致灾因子危险性、孕灾环境敏感性以及承灾体易损性,选取指标构建小清河流域洪涝灾害风险评估指标体系,提出一种基于D-S证据理论的改进AHP-熵权法计算指标权重,求取洪涝灾害风险指数,运用自然断点分级法确定洪涝灾害风险等级,分析小清河流域洪涝灾害风险空间分布情况。结果表明:小清河流域洪涝灾害风险总体上表现出南低北高的趋势,其中高风险区和较高风险区分别占流域面积的8.7%和14.3%,主要分布在小清河干流以及主要支流两岸。所得评估结果同“利奇马”台风发生期间实际洪灾风险分布情况一致,对比证明基于D-S证据理论的改进AHP-熵权法优于AHP和熵权法,可为小清河流域防洪减灾决策提供依据。

Research on Dynamic Relationship between Agricultural Insurance and Agricultural Disaster Degree

Agricultural insurance is an important system of rural financial support for agricultural development.Based on the analysis of agricultural insurance improving farmers'anti-risk ability and reducing the damage,the dynamic relationship is discussed with the adoption of error correction model and the data of Guangdong province between 1997 and 2010.The result shows that the promotion of agricultural insurance depth is beneficial to reducing agricultural damage degree and there exists long-term equilibrium relationship.More precisely,agricultural insurance depth is the Granger reason of agricultural damage degree while the reverse relationship has not been supported yet.Based on the empirical analysis,this paper discusses the characteristics and foundation of agricultural production as well as market characteristics of agricultural insurance to further explore the necessity of financial support.

Performance of the Yangbi M_(S)6.4 earthquake disaster in different geomorphic units in Yunnan

An M_(S)6.4 earthquake occurred in Yangbi,Yunnan province,on May 21,2021.According to related investigations,the macro-epicenter of the earthquake is 6 km northwest of Yangbi County,and the seismogenic structure is the NW-trending Weixi-Qiaohou fault.The earthquake area is located in the hinterland of the Hengduan Mountains in the northwest of Yunnan Province,a region dominated by high and medium-high mountains,with deep canyons and tectonic basins in between.Various geomorphic features are derived from drastic topographic changes and huge geological differences in the earthquake area.There are a variety of buildings in the earthquake-affected zone,including civil and brick-wood structures ones with weak seismic performance,as well as brick-concrete and frame ones with better seismic performance.This paper summarizes and analyzes different characteristics of the earthquake in different geomorphic units through field investigations of different buildings and geological disasters in the affected area.The results show that under the same earthquake intensity,the damage to most buildings(located in slope areas or rooted in weak strata)is amplified by the earthquake.The earthquake has exerted an obvious propagation effect along the direction of the seismogenic structure.Moreover,local ground fissures will aggravate the damage to the buildings even without surface dislocation.Thus,we suggest that attention should be paid to the ground fissures caused by the slope effect.The fissure areas may also be the disaster spot of collapses and landslides in case of a high-magnitude earthquake.

The types and characteristics of man-induced sediment disaster

The man-induced sediment disaster includes material erosion, transportation and accumulation by human activities. It possesses special attribute in sociology and disaster science. In accordance with human activities, geomorphologic location, behavior and particular, the man-induced sediment disaster can be divided into 4 types: the drainage network, slope and gully, channel and plain-estuary-coastline. Each type includes erosion, transportation, accumulation, complexity and cascading. Based on human activity, geomorphology, sediment mechanics and catastrophology, the man-induced sediment disaster is characterized as follows: (1) accelerating tendency with geographical zoning back-ground; (2) non-order characters by blind action without special technical training; (3) gradually and sharply changing with human environment vibration; and (4) complexity and non-linear figure, etc. One of the reasons leading to man-induced sediment disaster is human environment vibration.

Flood and Waterlogging Disaster Damage Evaluation in Middle-Lower Yangtze River by 3S technology

The evaluation method, model and process for the flood and waterlogging disaster condition by GIS,RS and GPS technology and the method for setting up disaster condition database, dyke database and historical disaster damage database are presented. An index of flood damage degree(FDD) used to evaluate the relative degree of disaster loss and divide flood and waterlogging area is suggested. The value of flood damage degree can be calculated as follows :taking the various disaster losses of sample area in a base year as standard value and computing the ratios of various disaster loss values in different areas and years to the standard flood disaster loss values, then summing up the weighted ratios. The computed results are the value of flood damage degree in the every year. The macroscopic flood disaster distribution can be evaluated by the values of flood loss degree.

India is vulnerable to a large number of disasters.More than 58.6%of the landmass is prone to earthquakes of moderate to high intensity;over 40 million hectares(12%)of its land is prone to floods and river erosion;close to 5.700 km,out of the 7.516 km long coastline is prone to cyclones and tsunamis;68%of its cultivable area is vulnerable to droughts;and,its hilly areas are at risk from landslides and avalanches.The WHO defines disaster as any occurrence that causes damage,ecological disruption,loss of human life,deterioration of health,and health services,on a scale sufficient to warrant an extraordinary response from outside the affected community or area.Roles of nurse during disaster management include to determine the magnitude of the event,define and understand the health needs of the affected groups,prepare the priorities and objectives,identify actual and potential public health problems at the earliest,and estimate resources needed to respond to the needs identified.

Study on the Influence of Farmer Social Capital on Cooperative Supply Willingness of Agricultural Disaster Reduction Public Goods——Based on the Investigation on 515 Farmers

Based on social capital theory,related factors of three dimensions( structure dimension,cognition dimension and relation dimension) of farmer social capital are taken as independent variables,and famer's willingness to cooperatively supply agricultural disaster reduction public goods is taken as dependent variable. Taking 515 farmers in 27 villages of Hubei Province as investigation objects,the influence of farmer social capital on cooperative supply willingness of agricultural disaster reduction public goods is explored by Logistic regression model. Research results show that social solidarity,common value concept,social trust and reciprocal content have positive impact on farmer's willingness of cooperative supply,while annual household income,number of agricultural disaster reduction public goods and social network have negative impact on farmer's willingness of cooperative supply.

A Content Analysis of Multicultural Children＇s Books in the Republic of Korea and America

Picture books are a staple in the kindergarten classroom for teaching content, social expectations, and the joy of reading. The purpose of this study is to explore the representation and depiction of multicultural families in children＇s picture books within kindergarten classroom libraries. Children＇s pictures books are a microcosm of today＇s society. They convey cultural messages and values about society, and help children learn about their heritage and the heritage of others. Children＇s literature is increasingly more reflective of diverse cultures. Children need to see themselves reflected in literature in order to see the lives of others, and in order to see themselves as able to transverse between groups and worlds. America （U.S.） has been and will always be a diverse nation. Likewise, the Republic of Korea （ROK） is quickly becoming a multicultural society as well, and the influx of multicultural families is growing exponentially. Books depicting this growing diversity can dispose of stereotypes that children may have about races other than their own. Children＇s literature is still not authentically portraying a multiethnic Korea. The results of this study show that children who interact with current picture books predominantly see Korean faces. Finding books depicting non-Korean characters, particularly books depicting culturally specific elements, is rare, although there are books depicting culturally neutral and generic characters However, although our classrooms are culturally and ethnically diverse, the books predominantly found in classrooms portray only one race. What does that tell our students？ Seeing diverse populations in children＇s literature needs to become the norm, not the exception.

Confessions of a Closet Comic Book Reader： How Comics Warped Minds and Challenged Cultural Standards

In 1952, the federal government was called upon to investigate the comic book industry in order to determine if reading comic books influenced juvenile delinquency. The United States could not afford to look weak from any angle; the idea of Communist nations exploiting moral weakness of any kind was frightening to many. However, the Soviets were already aware of moral issues on the American home front that were affecting the health of the nation, such as civil rights, sexism （sexual confusion）, a rise in fascism, and juvenile delinquency. This study will discuss the investigation of the comic book industry as the sole contributors to juvenile delinquent issues, as Fredric Wertham charged in his book Seduction of the Innocent. In addition, this study focuses on the ways in which Entertaining Comics （EC） pushed the envelope and challenged Cold War standards of ideal middle class values. Their creative resistance led to the federal investigation which nearly destroyed the comic book industry. Through these investigations, the federal government re-defined the first amendment as it applied to this type of media as a way to curtail what they believed was the Soviet Union＇s efforts to use our own literature as a propaganda tool for their people.
