Methods: Aging mouse model was established by subcutaneous injection of D-galactose, and treated by auricular acupuncture, auricular acupuncture plus moxibustion, and auricular acupuncture plus Chinese herbs respectively for 6 weeks and then serum interleukin-2 (IL-2) and IL-6 contents and splenic lymphocyte transformation rate were compared among the groups. Results: Compared with the young group, the serum IL-2 level and the splenic lymphocyte transformation rate significantly decreased and the IL-6 level significantly increased in the aging mouse. After treatment by auricular acupuncture, auricular acupuncture plus Chinese herbs, especially auricular acupuncture plus moxibustion, the serum IL-2 level and the splenic lymphocyte transformation rate significantly increased, and the IL-6 level significantly decreased as compared with the model group. Conclusions: Combined application of auricular acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs can improve the decline or dysfunction of immunological function in the aging organism to a certain extent.展开更多

Twenty-eight cases with coronary heart disease (CHD) were systemically observed and investigated. Atrial natriuretic polypeptides (ANP) were determined by radioimmunoassay. Plasma level of ANP was elevated, the rising rate being 100%. The therapeutic effect of MWA in the 28 cases with CHD was 85.7%, the ECG improving rate was 82.2%. Effect of MWA was briefly discussed. The authors consid-er that the therapeutic effect of MWA in the treatment of CHD could be ascertained, and the measurement of plasma ANP concentration is a useful method and an objective parameter for further research.展开更多

Methods: One hundred patients with breast hyperplasia who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into an acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine(A&TCM) group and a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) group, 50 cases in each group. The A&TCM group received acupuncture combined with oral TCM; the TCM group only received oral TCM. After two courses of treatment, the efficacy was observed. Results: During the two treatment courses, the recovery rates had been increasing in both groups. The recovery rate of the A&TCM group was 40.0% and the total effective rate was 98.0%. While the recovery rate of the TCM group was 18.0% and the total effective rate was 80.0%. According to statistical analysis, the differences of recovery rate and total effective rate between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.01). Conclusion: Combination of acupuncture and TCM is more effective than simple oral TCM.展开更多
